A Face Recognition Attendance System with GSM Notification
Current biometric methods for attendance are too intrusive. This paper presents a stress-free non-intrusive way of taking class attendance using face as the biometric. It also has the added novelty of relaying vital information about class attendance to handheld devices via any available cellular network. During enrollment, a camera was used to acquire facial images that were made into templates using Fisherfaces algorithm. These templates were stored in a database. During verification or attendance taking, facial features extracted from acquired face images and stored picture templates were compared using Fisher Linear Discrimination algorithm for any match within the pre-set threshold. Vital information about collated attendance reports were sent via a cellular network to designated handheld devices. The designed and implemented system had 54.17% accuracy during verification when lighting was varied without any variation in facial expression during enrollment. The system had 70.83% accuracy during verification when facial expressions were varied along with variations in lighting conditions during enrollment
A Plan for Igniting Nigeria’s Industrial Revolution
The Industrialization of countries is in every way influenced by forerunner nations. This is exemplified in Western Europe’s copying of Britain’s technology and manufacturing systems. This work presents a study of the industrialization of nations such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and several other industrializing countries and the lessons learned revealed that the industrialization of these nations was based on initial imitative-reverse-engineering of products of forerunner nations which then leads to endogenous growth and the onset of innovation under certain constraints. This is a strategic form of import substitution and is in fact the model around which a plan for Nigeria’s Industrialization has been buil
DEVELOPMENT OF A 0.5KW HORIZONTAL AXIS WIND TURBINE
Wind turbine is a machine that is powered by the energy from the wind. It is designed to convert the kinetic energy from the wind into electrical power (electricity). This study focus on the development of 0.5KW horizontal axis wind turbine. The major components of the wind turbine which include the blades, hub, shaft and the tower, were design and fabricated to meet the required 0.5 KW and the turbine was mounted on a tower height of 5m from the sea level. The test result showed that the wind turbine is capable of producing about 500 W, at a rotor speed of 153.5 rpm. The necessary design details that have been applied at the design and fabrication stages of the wind turbine guarantees the high hope of this wind turbine performing better
Design, Production and Testing of a Single Stage Centrifugal Pump
The design, construction and testing of a single stage centrifugal pump is presented in this project work, electric motor drives the centrifugal pump, which draws fluid (water) from a water storage wall and delivers same through a flow control valve to a tank. The experimental results obtained shows that the tested pump can develop a head, (H) of 30m, volumetric discharge, (Q) of 9m3/hr and the speed of 2900 rpm for an input power of 1.5HP (1.1k). The operation of the pump was observed to be very smooth with low vibration and noise level on the pump and motor respectively, this guarantee the reliability of the pump in service
Performance of MPLS-based Virtual Private Networks and Classic Virtual Private Networks Using Advanced Metrics
Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is effective in managing and utilizing available network bandwidth. It has advanced security features and a lower time delay. The existing literature has covered the performance of MPLS-based networks in relation to conventional Internet Protocol (IP) networks. But, too few literatures exist on the performance of MPLS-based Virtual Private Networks (VPN) in relation to traditional VPN networks. In this paper, a comparison is made between the effectiveness of the MPLS-VPN network and a classic VPN network using simulation studies done on OPNET®. The performance metrics used to carry out the comparison include; End to End Delay, Voice Packet Sent/Received and Label Switched Path’s Traffic. The simulation study was carried out with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) as the test bed. The result of the study showed that MPLS-based VPN networks outperform classic VPN networks
Design, Construction and Evaluation of a Cylinder Lawn Mower
A manually operated mechanical machine for cutting grass was design, fabricated and tested. The
machine was design with an internal gear system which transfers the torque to the mower mechanism. The
machine's performance test evaluation was conducted in delta state sports stadiwn Asaba. Area of grass cut
2.1 m2
, desired height of cut 20m, time taken 2 min, area of grass cut to desired height 1.92 m2 which gave the
cutting efficiency of the cylinder lawn mower 91% with 0.244 KN hwnan effort were obtained. The cutting
effectiveness was achieved with a total power of 579.6 W at a rotary speed of 135 rpm of shaft. Its friendly to
the environment because it does not emits carbon monoxide into the environment and the noise level is
drastically reduced. The machine is considered highly efficient and is readily adaptable to different cutting
conditions
Effects Of Organizational Structure On Sports Personnel Satisfaction In Nigeria: Southwest Tertiary Institution
The study was carried out on organizational structure and sports personnel satisfaction in Nigeria South West Tertiary Institutions. To this end, a total of 200 sports personnel’s that cut across four institutions, that is, LASU, UNILAG, UI, and Ibadan Poly, were selected through a stratified random sampling technique and served as respondents in the study. A self-developed and validated questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Fifty (50) copies of the questionnaire were administered in each of the institutions using on the spot administration for high percentage returns. The data collected was used to develop a frequency distribution table for analysis. The descriptive statistics of percentage, bar, and pie charts were used for data presentation, while the t-test statistical tool was used in testing all stated hypotheses using 0.05 confidence levels. The findings show that Organizational structure, Reward, and Communication have significant influences on sports personnel satisfaction in Nigeria South-west Tertiary institution, it can also be depicted that for the development of any institution or sport academic, the organizational structural effects of the sports personnel need to be structured appropriately to promote healthy living

Development of Web Application Complaint Management System (A Case Study of Covenant University Environment)
Complaint management schemes have shown to be a unique and effective technique for assessing students, staff and visitors’ satisfaction in a university environment. It has aided in promoting change and improvement in the way operations are carried out and ensuring that students and staff are served to the best of the University's capacity. Although there have been significant improvements in complaint management, the manual complaint report technique still has a lot of room for improvement. This research aims to create a web application based on a complaint management system for the Covenant University community, using a hypertext markup language (HTML) and cascading style sheets (CSS) for the front end as the programming language. Python Django as the database to enhance the way complaints are handled and analysed in the university environment. The system was high-speed and more efficient than the currently employed deployment and testing method
Implementation of the Enhanced Fingerprint Authentication in the ATM System Using ATmega128 with GSM Feedback Mechanism
ATM was introduced to boost the cashless policy in Nigeria. Current trend of Cybercrime facilitate the need for an enhanced fingerprint application on ATM machine with GSM Feedback mechanism. The mechanism enable unassigned fingerprint authentication of customers with quick code and secret code. The project enhances the security authentication of customers using ATM. A core controller using fingerprint recognition system of ATmega128 in-system programmable flash is explored. An SM630 fingerprint module is used to capture fingerprints with DSP processor and optical sensor for verification, using AT command of GSM module for feedback text messaging (i.e. sending of Quick and Secret-Codes respectively). Upon system testing of capable reduction of ATM fraud using C program, the new method of authentication is presented
