SIMULATION OF BALL HANDLING IN OVERHEAD PASSING IN VOLLEYBALL

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to obtain basic data to be used for teaching ball handling in overhead passing in volleyball. The method used was simulation of a mass-elasticity-viscosity model consisting of arms, hands and ball. First, the acceleration of the ball was calculated during contact with the hands through means of VTR images. As a result of comparing this acceleration with that of the simulation of the model, it was found to be appropriate, and the coefficients of elasticity and viscosity were sufficient. The coefficients indicated that a skilled player changes hand elasticity depending on the height of set up. This is the reason that skilled players can control the ball with a greater degree of accuracy. On the other hand, unskilled players can not change hand elasticity as easily, which affects their control of the ball

A MODEL FOR ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT BETWEEN A TENNIS RACKET AND A BALL

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to determine the validity of a vibration model designed to elucidate the impact between tennis rackets and balls. Generally, a vibration model consists of elasticity and viscosity. A rod was added to the existing model to indicate the contact point on the racket face because vibration changes depend on the position of impact. Comparing the results of the model‟s simulation and the physical experiment that was performed, it was found that the model was appropriate with regards to amplitude and frequency of vibrations. Using such a model, it should be possible to modify the characteristics of rackets. This will be beneficial, not only for racket selection, but also for new design

A Selective G-Quadruplex DNA-Stabilizing Ligand Based on a Cyclic Naphthalene Diimide Derivative

    Get PDF
A cyclic naphthalene diimide (cyclic NDI, 1), carrying a benzene moiety as linker chain, was synthesized and its interaction with G-quadruplex DNAs of a-core and a-coreTT as a human telomeric DNA, c-kit and c-myc as DNA sequence at promoter region, or thrombin-binding aptamer (TBA) studied based on UV-VIS and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopic techniques, thermal melting temperature measurement, and FRET-melting assay. The circular dichroism spectra showed that 1 induced the formation of different types of G-quadruplex DNA structure. Compound 1 bound to these G-quadruplexes with affinities in the range of 106–107 M−1 order and a 2:1 stoichiometry. Compound 1 showed 270-fold higher selectivity for a-core than dsDNA with a preferable a-core binding than a-coreTT, c-kit, c-myc and TBA in the presence of K+, which is supported by thermal melting studies. The FRET-melting assay also showed that 1 bound preferentially to human telomeric DNA. Compound 1 showed potent inhibition against telomerase activity with an IC50 value of 0.9 μM and preferable binding to G-quadruplexes DNA than our previously published cyclic NDI derivative 3 carrying a benzene moiety as longer linker chain

Oligo-recurrence from anaplastic lymphoma kinase-rearranged lung adenocarcinoma

    Get PDF
Anaplastic lymphoma kinase rearranged non-small-cell lung cancer is a rare disease. Among them, a subset of patients exist who exhibit relatively slowly progressing symptoms and have oligo-metastases. In this article, we present two cases of ALK rearran-ged lung adenocarcinoma in patients who experienced postoperative oligo-recurrence. Both cases were treated with surgical resection and gamma knife irradiation for oligo-recurrence. After local therapy, the first patient remained disease free for over  23 months; the second for over 18 months. It appears that some patients with ALK rearranged NSCLC experience oligo-recurrence in their clinical course. For such patients, appropriate local therapy may be beneficial in improving both the quality of life and the prognosis

Selective Transesterification of 2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl Phosphates: Synthesis of Mixed Unsymmetrical Phosphates

    Get PDF
A selective transesterification starting with tris(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) phosphate has been developed. This method involves a three-step substitution for 2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy groups and enables the facile synthesis of mixed unsymmetric phosphate triesters from three different alcohols. The substitution of the trifluoroethoxy group at the phosphorus proceeds selectively in the presence of DBU or lithium alkoxides. This method can be applied for the preparation of phospholipids

Unprecedented formation of η4-(vinylketene)iron complexes from η4-(diene)iron complexes and aromatic compounds in the presence of a Lewis acid

    Get PDF
A novel and unprecedented formation of η4-(vinylketene)iron complexes from η4-(diene)iron complexes is described herein. Treatment of η4-(diene)iron complexes with a Lewis acid such as GaCl3 or AlCl3 in the presence of aromatic compounds under a CO atmosphere affords η4-(vinylketene)iron complexes via electrophilic aromatic substitution
