Nearest pattern interaction and global pattern formation
We studied the effect of nearest pattern interaction on a globally pattern
formation in a 2-dimensional space, where patterns are to grow initially from a
noise in the presence of periodic supply of energy. Although our approach is
general, we found that this study is relevant in particular to the pattern
formation on a periodically vibrated granular layer, as it gives a unified
perspective of the experimentally observed pattern dynamics such as oscillon
and stripe formations, skew-varicose and crossroll instabilities, and also a
kink formation and decoration
Nematicity and magnetism in LaFeAsO single crystals probed by As 75 nuclear magnetic resonance
We report a As75 nuclear magnetic resonance study in LaFeAsO single crystals, which undergoes nematic and antiferromagnetic transitions at TnemâŒ156 K and TNâŒ138 K, respectively. Below Tnem, the As75 spectrum splits sharply into two for an external magnetic field parallel to the orthorhombic a or b axis in the FeAs planes. Our analysis of the data demonstrates that the NMR line splitting arises from an electronically driven rotational symmetry breaking. The As75 spin-lattice relaxation rate as a function of temperature shows that spin fluctuations are strongly enhanced just below Tnem. These NMR findings indicate that nematic order promotes spin fluctuations in magnetically ordered LaFeAsO, as observed in nonmagnetic and superconducting FeSe. We conclude that the origin of nematicity is identical in both FeSe and LaFeAsO regardless of whether or not a long-range magnetic order develops in the nematic state. © 2018 American Physical Society1
Role of the dimerized gap due to anion ordering in spin-density wave phase of (TMTSF)ClO at high magnetic fields
Magnetoresistance measurements have been carried out along the highly
conducting a axis in the FISDW phase of hydrogened and deuterated
(TMTSF)ClO for various cooling rates through the anion ordering
temperature. With increasing the cooling rate, a) the high field phase boundary
, observed at 27 T in hydrogened samples for slowly cooled,
is shifted towards a lower field, b) the last semimetallic SDW phase below
is suppressed, and c) the FISDW insulating phase above
is enhanced in both salts. The cooling rate dependence of
the FISDW transition and of in both salts can be explained
by taking into account the peculiar SDW nesting vector stabilized by the

The ethics of inherent trust in care robots for the elderly
The way elderly care is delivered is changing. Attempts are being made to accommodate the increasing number of elderly, and the decline in the number of people available to care for them, with care robots. This change introduces ethical issues into robotics and healthcare. The two-part study (heuristic evaluation and survey) reported here examines a phenomenon which is a result of that
change. The phenomenon rises out of a contradiction. All but 2 (who were undecided) of the 12 elderly survey respondents, out of the total of 102 respondents, wanted to be able to change how the presented care robot made decisions and 7 of those 12 elderly wanted to be able to examine its decision making process so
as to ensure the care provided is personalized. However, at the same time, 34% of the elderly participants said they were willing to trust the care robot inherently, compared to only 16% of the participants who were under fifty. Additionally, 66% of the elderly respondents said they were very likely or likely to accept and
use such a care robot in their everyday lives. The contradiction of inherent trust and simultaneous wariness about control gives rise to the phenomenon: elderly in need want control over their care to ensure it is personalized, but many may desperately take any help they can get. The possible causes, and ethical implications,
of this phenomenon are the focus of this paper

Syntheses of 3-[(Alkylamino)methylene]-6-methyl-1Hpyridine-2,4-diones, Fluorescence Probes 3-Substituted 7-Methyl-6H-pyrano[3,2-c]pyridine-2,5-diones, and Tetrahydro-6H-2,10-dioxa-9-azaanthracen-1-ones
Various condensation and ring-closing reactions were used for the syntheses of 3-[(alkylamino)methylene]-6-methylpyridine-2,4(1H,3H)-diones, bicyclic pyridinones, and tricyclic morpholinopyrones. For instance, 3-[(dialkylamino)methylene]-6-methylpyridine-2,4(1H,3H)-diones were synthesized from the condensation of dialkylamines and 3-formyl-4-hydroxy-6-methylpyridin-2(1H)-one. 3-Formyl-4-hydroxy-6-methylpyridin-2(1H)-one, derived from 3-formyl-4-hydroxy-6-methylpyridin-2(1H)-one, was used to construct a number of bicyclic pyridinones via a one-pot Knoevenagal and intramolecular lactonization reaction. Tricyclic morpholinopyrones were assembled from a dialkylation reaction involving a dinucleophile, 3-amino-4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2H-pyran-2-one, and a dielectrophile, trans-3,6-dibromocyclohexene. Depending on the reaction conditions, isomers of the tricyclic molecules can be selectively produced, and their chemical structures were unequivocally determined using single-crystal X-ray analyses and 2D COSY spectroscopy. The fluorescently active bicyclic pyridinone compounds show longer absorption (368â430 nm; maximum) and emission wavelengths (450â467 nm) than those of 7-amino-4-methylcoumarin (AMC; λ[subscript abs,max] = 350 nm; λ[subscript em] = 430 nm) suggesting these molecules, such as 3-(2-aminoacetyl)-7-methyl-2H-pyrano[3,2-c]pyridine-2,5(6H)-dione, can be employed as fluorescence activity based probes for tracing biological pathways

The momentum plane analyticity of two point function of a relativistic
thermal field theory at zero chemical potential is explored. A general
principle regarding the location of the singularities is extracted. In the case
of the N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at large , a qualitative
change in the nature of the singularity (branch points versus simple poles)
from the weak coupling regime to the strong coupling regime is observed with
