Aiheesta on kuitenkin tehty vasta vähän tutkimuksia, joten osteopatian vaikuttavuudesta idiopaattiseen skolioosiin tarvinee lisäselvityksiä tulevaisuudessa.Idiopathic scoliosis has an impact on the health of the spine and it can cause various symptoms over the years, debilitating physical performance. The evidence on the efficacy of osteopathic treatment of idiopathic scoliosis is unclear. The purpose of this Bachelor´s thesis was to study idiopathic scoliosis through literature, research and working experience and to investigate the possibilities of osteopathic examination and treatment in its management. The research method was written questionnaire. Answers were received from two osteopaths. The purpose of the questionnaire was to complement the information found in research and literature. As a result, a guide on the examination and treatment of idiopathic scoliosis was produced. An osteopath and Metropolia third year students of osteopathy gave us positive feedback about the usability of the guide. Based on literature, research and the questionnaire, a wide and comprehensive description of the osteopathic perspective on idiopathic scoliosis was put together. The knowledge gained from working experience reinforced the information found in literature and research. The symptoms can be explained, to a large extent, with bodily imbalance and with changes in centres of gravity, muscular function and pressure changes within the body cavities. The most suitable time for osteopathic treatment would be as soon after birth as possible. The aim of osteopathic treatment before the end of growth is to prevent the onset of idiopathic scoliosis and its progression. After the end of the growth the aim is to relieve symptoms by enhancing the body´s performance and adaptability. Osteopathy may have an effect on idiopathic scoliosis and its progression. In treating idiopathic scoliosis, cranial treatment of infants and children have yielded best test results when regarding the benefits of osteopathy. However, very little research has been made on the subject and more investigation is probably needed in the future about the effectiveness of osteopathy on idiopathic scoliosis

Characteristics of digital artifacts in international endeavors of digital-based international new ventures

Research Summary Current research on digital artifacts and international business reveals that digitalization is changing how firms enter international markets and operate within them. The unbounded nature of digital artifacts provides opportunities for entrepreneur-driven firms to rapidly launch and develop digital platforms for international markets. However, extant literature provides little guidance on leveraging the specific characteristics of digital artifacts and what entrepreneurs should do to facilitate internationalization. We conducted an extensive longitudinal case study spanning more than 10 years to garner data on digital-based INV pursuing internationalization. We aimed to conceptualize a theoretical model explaining the role of entrepreneurs in integrating, building, and reconfiguring their capabilities to leverage the characteristics of digital artifacts for platform development. Managerial Summary What actions should entrepreneurs take to leverage the characteristics of digital artifacts to support their firm's internationalization? This study offers entrepreneurs a model to pinpoint those actions and possible avenues for digital platform development in the international market context. The model demonstrates how firms can apply digital artifact characteristics during the phases of internationalization and how those characteristics can facilitate and accelerate the international development of a digital platform. The findings also reveal how different entrepreneurial resources and capabilities should be integrated, built, and reconfigured throughout the process.© 2023 The Authors. Internationalization of indoor positioning platform firms : Insights from loose coupling theory

    Get PDF
Indoor positioning platforms are gaining popularity in various indoor environments, serving multiple purposes such as navigation, asset tracking, proximity marketing, and indoor analytics. However, the diversity of potential use cases and technical complexity makes these platforms challenging to internationalize across different markets and customer segments. Drawing on the characteristics of digitalization framework and the loose coupling theory, we analyze and explain the phenomenon in an indoor positioning platform firm. Our findings reveal that platforms’ openness and digital affordances played a pivotal role in its internationalization by enabling customization of the service to meet the needs of foreign markets and industry segments. Both loose and tight couplings were essential for the platform's global expansion. We also revealed the dynamic nature of couplings in the firm's internationalization journey.fi=vertaisarvioitu|en=peerReviewed

Risks in ERP Project – Case Study of IS/ICT Management Capability Maturity Level and Risk Assessment

    Get PDF
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) projects are considered to be expensive, time-consuming, difficult to manage, and extremely risky. ERP projects are risky from the strategic, operational, technical and organisational perspectives. The risks and critical success factors of ERP projects have been widely studied, and the management of risks is crucial to a successful ERP project. Generic risk analyses have faced inflation, and in the worst case companies do not manage risks in their ERP projects at all. This paper presents the early stage assessment of ERP project risks in three firms’ ERP projects. The focus is on company-specific risk identification. Companies of this study have limited maturity in IS/ICT management capabilities. Understanding of capability maturity level is useful to efficient risk management in an ERP project. In this paper we compare the company-specific risks to common risk list found in the literature. Qualitative case study of three firms provides empirical evidence of uncovered ERP risks if only common risk list is used. As a result we claim that in addition to generic project management risks there is also a need to assess company-specific-risks. In fact, company-specific risks are usually critical to company’s ERP project success

Technical, Strategic, and Cultural Bottlenecks of Born-Global-Digital Firms

    Get PDF
A born-global-digital firm belongs to the group of firms that apply and develop digital technologies to achieve early internationalization. However, there might be different types of bottlenecks related to foreign market entries and the development of digital services affecting those markets that limit such firms’ global activities. In this work, we divide these bottlenecks into technical, strategic, and cultural forms. This multi-case study examines the impact of those bottlenecks and how that might be overcome. We provide practical and theoretical alternatives to bypass the impediments created by the bottlenecks

The Internationalization of B2B Digital Platform Providers: The Role of Cross-National Distance and Digital Characteristics

Digitalization offers new opportunities and changes how firms can explore and enter new markets. Current literature has deepened our understanding of the internationalization process of the digital-based firms, but it provides very little guidance on how the specific characteristics of digital artifacts enable and accelerate internationalization and how the cross-national distance and cultural difference may play a role. We use a longitudinal single case approach to explore how a Business-to-Business (B2B) platform provider internationalized its operations from the inception. The case study illustrates that the ongoing development of the digital service and the integration with new devices played an important role in the firm’s internationalization and expansion into new markets. We also observed that cross-cultural distance and cultural differences played an unexpected role. Last, we propose avenues for future research

Prediction of drug dissolution from Toremifene 80 mg tablets by NIR spectroscopy

The aim of our study was to justify substitution of dissolution analysis for NIR measurement of Toremifene 80 mg tablets. We studied implementation of a NIRS method by integrating the method development to discrimination power of the dissolution method. Hence, we analyzed 20 DoE tablet batches and studied which of the critical formulation factors affecting dissolution were statistically significant. To study if these factors can be detected by NIRS, PLS calibration models were developed. Finally, PLS model was built to correlate NIR data with the actual dissolution results to predict the released amount of toremifene in 30 min. To obtain the data the tablet batches were measured by NIR using diffuse reflectance technique and multivariate analysis tool was used to calibrate the NIRS models. Correlations between the critical formulation factors and the NIR spectra of Toremifene 80 mg tablet were shown and it was thus justified to develop a NIRS prediction model for dissolution. Variance (R-2), standard error of estimate (SEE) and standard error of prediction (SEP) of the model were 90.0%, 4.3% and 5.9%, respectively. It was thus shown that mull-phased and time consuming dissolution procedure could be substituted for fast non-invasive NIRS method.Peer reviewe
