Colorectal cancer has become one of the cancer types with high incidence rate all over the world. Various eorts have been carried out to nd a way to decrease the risk of cancer. Chemotherapy using 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is one of the common cancer treatments that is expected to drive the white bloodcell (WBC) level into the normal level. This research investigates the factors inuencing the change of WBC level in cancer patients treated with 5-FU combined with physical treatment in the form of footsteps. By focusing on the change of WBC level, i.e. decreasing or increasing the WBC level as the response, probit regression was applied to the data measured from 28 cancerpatients who have undergone 14 days of treatment. The probit regression found that age of the patient, average number of daily footsteps and the dose of 5-FU signcantly inuence the change of WBC. The regression is able to classify the case with a satisfactory results, i.e. 85.71% classication accuracy. This nding can be a guideline to better treat the colorectal cancer patientto reach a normal WBC

Estimating Productivity of Dairy Cows by Inductive Logic Programming

    Get PDF
In this study, we attempt deriving rules to estimate the productivity of dairy cows using inductive logic programming (ILP) for dairy farming. The milk yield of dairy cows is economically important and, of course, should be large. Accordingly, we selected data using the total milk yield in a lifetime as a threshold, and our ILP algorithm learned about positive and negative cases. As a result, 42 rules in positive, and 11 rules in negative were derived. ILP is also applicable for dairy farming and can provide useful information for farmers

A Practical Route Search System for Amusement Parks Navigation

    No full text
It is very difficult to find the minimum route to travel in amusement park navigation. A searching system for visitors would be useful. Therefore, we constructed a system to find the route with the minimum total traveling time. Facility visitors can employ this system on a smart phone. The system is composed of Java and a Java Servlet. We conclude that our system is useful and can greatly shorten travel time within a typical amusement park

Proposal for a Similar Question Search System on a Q&A Site

    No full text
There is a service to help Internet users obtain answers to specific questions when they visit a Q&A site. A Q&A site is very useful for the Internet user, but posted questions are often not answered immediately. This delay in answering occurs because in most cases another site user is answering the question manually. In this study, we propose a system that can present a question that is similar to a question posted by a user. An advantage of this system is that a user can refer to an answer to a similar question. This research measures the similarity of a candidate question based on word and dependency parsing. In an experiment, we examined the effectiveness of the proposed system for questions actually posted on the Q&A site. The result indicates that the system can show the questioner the answer to a similar question. However, the system still has a number of aspects that should be improved
