Aligned with the decolonial aims of this project, this English and Yoruba language opera promotes an international understanding of African operatic styles which reflect literary, musical, instrumental and dance cultural traditions. This paper addresses some of the issues faced by people of color in the opera world, ways that people of color have been resilient in this genre and ways to enrich the opera world with the aim of decolonizing and deframing the white racial structure. This opera was first performed on March 29th, 2022 and was created as a workshop for performances in high schools, colleges, music institutions, and opera houses in America and around the world. For centuries opera has stayed very close to its origins, deeply rooted as a White European artform. Yet, opera expressions exist all over the world. This opera incorporates the Yoruba language of Nigeria in a modern version of a classic Nigerian folktale resulting in composer Dr. Ayo Oluranti’s Ọmọ Àgbẹ̀ Tó D\u27olórin (The Farmer’s Daughter Becomes a Musician). This presentation of this Nigerian opera based on the initial of “The Farmer’s Son Becomes a Hunter” which was re-written to be “the Farmer’s Daughter Becomes a Musician.” There are seven unique elements: the Yoruba language, Yoruba festivals (the setting for the opera), the intricacy of Yoruba proverbs, the oríkì (praise poetry), dance traditions, other non-western genres of music like the highlife and Afrobeat music and the African percussion instruments. This intentional and masterful expansion of the White European protocols is a decolonizing practice that enriches the artform

To reduce multipath in a microwave link environment, it is considered as a characteristic way to deal with embrace a digital signal processing approach. The data incorporates an advantageous trademark, that is, the likelihood of wiping out some level of multipath fading impacts. This theory manages a few examinations to enhance motion by exploiting the signal blend assorted variety strategy; the Selection decent variety, SC, the equivalent gain joining, EQC and maximal proportion consolidating methods, MRC. The bit mistake rate, BER, vitality bit to control, Eb/No and signal to clamor proportion SNR of the signs were viewed as key parameters to in executing the MATLAB codes for this work. These parameters; were figured in view of table 3.1 for SC, EQC and MRC separately, the outcomes acquired demonstrates that utilizing the QPSK with coherent detection of signal, as a measure of performance, Bit Error Rate, BER, Signal to noise ratio and energy bit to was chosen, and concluded that the best performance fading reduction is achieved by applying the techniques of MRC. Somewhat more terrible performance of fading decrease is accomplished by utilizing the method of EGC, and the most exceedingly bad, by utilizing SC strategies and affirms that the analytical outcomes are valid. The aim of this paper is to describe how organizations manage their stakeholder relationships in order to achieve sustainable development that enhances economic, environmental, socio-culture, and political sustainability. This paper examines the concept of sustainable development from a stakeholder perspective. It is argued that the concept and practice of sustainable development is a contested area in the process of development because different people and groups have different stakes in what is meant by sustainable development. The paper discusses strategies for achieving sustainable development that meets its four criteria: economic, environmental, socio-cultural and political sustainability through stakeholder management. The study apply three cases of stakeholder management  and  used them to analyzed and  “interpret” the relationship between an organization’s ability to manage its stakeholder relationships and to achieve sustainable growth and development this is great contribution to existing knowledge in field of stakeholder management in an organization  The main point of departure and the argumentation that follows is that a model derived from the principles underlying stakeholder theory will help improve relationships among organizations, management and the local communities in order to achieve development (environmental, economic, socio-cultural and political) that is sustainable. Finally, the paper recommends strategies for designing sustainable development from a stakeholder approach.. Keywords: Sustainable development, stakeholder management, environmental  sustainability, economic sustainability, socio-cultural sustainability and political sustainability

Interest-Based Conflict Management Systems: Beyond Traditional and ADR Systems of Conflict Resolution

    Get PDF
This article is both a review and a critique of existing models of conflict resolution and management.  Written from practitioners’ point of departure, the shortcoming of traditional methods of managing conflict, including those involving alternative dispute resolution methods are examined. Specifically, we examine the meaning of ADR, the conditions under which it is practicable, and its limitations. This is followed by an examination of an interest-based conflict management system as another “alternative” to ADR. This system, it is argued in this article, takes into cognizance the interests and aspirations of all the stakeholders involved in a situation of conflict resolution. To provide the foundation for our model, we examine four different types of conflict management systems in terms of the identity of their designers, attitude toward conflict, analysis of conflict, methods of managing conflict, focus of efforts and the key players in a situation of conflict resolution. Finally, we propose nine principles of interest-based conflict management system, which should guide the practitioner in designing an effective conflict management system. Barriers to women entrepreneurship. Different methods, different results?

    Get PDF
Building on research by Akehurst et al. (Serv Ind J 32:2489-2505, 2012), this study analysed internal and external factors in women entrepreneurship and linked these factors to the barriers that women face when starting businesses. To do so, two contrasting statistical techniques were used: PLS and QCA. After analysing results from each of these techniques, we observed that family duties and difficulties in obtaining financing (both internal and external) were the main factors related to barriers faced by women entrepreneurs

Towards an appreciation of ethics in social enterprise business models

How can a critical analysis of entrepreneurial intention inform an appreciation of ethics in social enterprise business models? In answering this question, we consider the ethical commitments that inform entrepreneurial action (inputs) and the hybrid organisations that emerge out of these commitments and actions (outputs). Ethical theory can be a useful way to re-orient the field of social enterprise so that it is more critical of bureaucratic (charitable) and market-driven (business) enterprises connected to neo-liberal doctrine. Social enterprise hybrid business models are therefore reframed as outcomes of both ethical and entrepreneurial intentions. We challenge the dominant conceptualisation of social enterprise as a hybrid blend of mission and market (purpose-versus-resource) by reframing hybridity in terms of the moral choice of economic system (redistribution, reciprocity and market) and social value orientation (personal, mutual or public benefit). We deconstruct the political foundations of charitable trading activities (CTAs), co-operative and mutual enterprises (CMEs) and socially responsible businesses (SRBs) by examining the rationalities (formal, social and substantive) and ethical commitments (utilitarian, communitarian, pragmatic) that underpin them. Whilst conceptual modelling of social enterprise is not new, this paper contributes to knowledge by developing a theory of social enterprise ethics based on the moral/political choices that are made by entrepreneurs (knowingly and unknowingly) when choosing between systems of economic exchange and social value orientation, then expressing it through a legal form
