    Get PDF
This study looks at Library Management Software, a comparative study of Cloud Service and In-house Software implementation at UPSA-Ghana with the help of key performance indicators. The purpose of this study is to identify the security effects of Cloud Software as a Service (SaaS), the benefits of Cloud Service as compared to In-house Software implementation within the context of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The study uses self-administered questionnaires to collect data and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) tool to analyze data collected from 52 respondents from UPSA. The results indicated that the users of the In-house library system face challenges such as system instability, lack of usability and user adaptation, system unreliability and malfunctioning, and poor training of staff to use the system. In terms of security inferences, maintenance expenses and procurement budgetary, majority of the respondents have indicated that In-house Software implementation were more advantageous than the Cloud Service. Nevertheless, there were indications that SaaS adoption would provide excellent service and minimize the frustration of staff. The study recommends user awareness creation of the services that SaaS offers, the need for the improvement of staff training on current IT developments and the motive for the acceptance of Cloud Services

DEVELOPMENT OF E-GOVERNMENT PAYMENT PORTAL: A CASE STUDY FROM A DEVELOPING COUNTRY (11)

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to understand how interactions between structure and agency shape e- government portal development in developing countries and how these are managed to arrive at an outcome. The need for the research emerged from growing concerns that there are few studies addressing the pre-adoption stages of e-government portals. The research used the development of an e-government payment portal in Ghana as a case study. The structuration theory was adopted as the analytical lens. The findings show that technical and political interactions such as testing, expert reporting, design, and blurry as well as overlapping authority shaped expert validation, expert reporting, payment workflow, security and privacy structures. Although the case is based on the experience of Ghana, the findings can be applied to other developing countries with similar experiences. The study offers implication for research, practice and policy makers as well as future recommendations

Management of rheumatic aortic valve disease using the Ozaki procedure with autologous pericardium:a case report

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: Rheumatic valve disease (RVD) is the most common cause of cardiovascular death in low-middle income nations. Surgical aortic valve (AV) interventions for RVD, especially in children, have proven problematic with graft failure, relapse, and poor compliance with anticoagulation. A novel technique involving neocuspidization of the aortic annulus using autologous pericardium to construct new AV leaflets (the Ozaki procedure) has shown promising outcomes in children with congenital AV disease; however, there are no previous recorded cases using this technique in children with RVD. CASE SUMMARY: We present the case of a 15-year-old male presenting with exertional angina and dyspnoea with a background of previous rheumatic fever. Echocardiography had shown a regurgitant tricuspid AV, left ventricular dilatation with mitral valve leaflet tethering. The patient underwent the Ozaki procedure for his AV regurgitation and was discharged following an uneventful post-operative recovery. The patient had full resolution of symptoms following the procedure and remains well 3 years following his operation. DISCUSSION: This case highlights that good outcomes with the Ozaki procedure in RVD are possible 3-years post-operatively and should prompt future studies to evaluate the procedure as a surgical option for paediatric patients in this clinical context. Additionally, the Ozaki procedure may also provide a cost-effective surgical technique requiring minimal additional operative resources and reduced follow-up demand, which would be critical in low-resource clinical settings where RVD is prevalent

Government Workspace Digitalization and Socioeconomic Development Outcomes in Ghana

    Get PDF
The study sought to understand how the structurational environment shapes socioeconomic outcomes of government workspace digitalization in Ghana based on a qualitative, interpretive case study and the structurational model of technology as a theoretical lens. The findings show how the availability of electronic transactions law, government borrowing, and extendable system design can positively influence socioeconomic outcomes of government workspace digitalization. However, use of multiple system development environments, bureaucracy, a within-country digital divide, and a persistent physical signature and letterhead culture can negatively influence the socioeconomic development goals of government workspace digitalization

A phonetic and phonological study of the nominal piece in Adangme.

    Get PDF
Chapter 1 provides a background of the Adangme-speaking area, reviews previous linguistic work on Adangme and defines the scope of the present study. Chapters 2 and 3 are concerned with the grammatical description of the Nominal Please the former deals with a definition of the Nominal Piece and with the word-classes of which the Nominal Place is composed; the latter describes the relevance of the Categories of Person and of Number to the Nominal Piece, Chapter 4 presents a detailed description of the vowel and consonant sounds of Adangme, The description draws as well on kinaesthetic evidence as on the following Instrumental data, all of which contribute an additional dimension to the phonetic description: palatograms, kymograms and spectrograms. The rest of the thesis (namely Chapters 5, 6 and7) describes the phonology of the Nominal Piece. Chapter 5 provides a prosodic analysis of the syllabic structure of Adangme and reviews some loanwords in Adangme. In Chapter 6 Is presented a prosodic statement on nasalization in various nominal constructions. Finally and by reference to tonograns of selected utterances. Chapter 7 deals with Pitch, Tone and Intonation in words of varying syllabic types, in certain grammatically-delimited Nominal Piece types, and in Sentences comprising a Nominal Piece and a Verbal Piece. A biblography of works quoted and of some of the works consulted appears at the end

Prospects and Challenges of Corporate Governance in Ghana

    Get PDF
The relevance of corporate governance principles in the management of corporate organisations cannot be underestimated. The increasing influence of principles of corporate governance across the globe has been greatly linked to the recent corporate frauds and scandals. These frauds and scandals largely resulted from the failure of authorities of countries to effectively implement the legal and regulatory frameworks pertaining to corporate governance. Ghana is archetypal in regards to the failure of authorities to enforce the laws and regulations in relation to corporate governance. During the enforcement of the laws and regulations of corporate governance, some vitally important issues are either overlooked or deliberately deserted. This paper attempts to examine the legal and regulatory framework of Ghana in regards to corporate governance and points out the importance of complying with good corporate governance. It also highlights prevailing issues of corporate governance practice in Ghana. It finally makes some recommendations, which are considered the major contribution of this paper

COVID-19, agriculture and food security in Ghana; the way forward

    Get PDF
Food production, its availability, and accessibility will continue to be key contributors to human existence. The world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic in the year 2020 and its effect trickled into reduced production of goods and services in many industries across the globe. Understanding the effects of the pandemic in Ghana necessitated the writeup of this paper. The study took the form of a desk review where current studies across the globe on the effect of the pandemic on agriculture and food security were reviewed, after which it was supported by data from self-placed questionnaire administration. Across the globe, agricultural production experienced a reduction that phased into food insecurity. This was not limited only to the extremely affected countries, but also, in countries where COVID-19 infections were low. One key limiting factor that spiked the challenge in the agricultural sector was a reduction in the availability of labour for production. In many leading food-producing countries, the challenge became acute when perishable food crops began to get damaged. In Ghana, the virus similarly led to restrictions in movements in and between epicenters. It was reported by the Ghana Statistical Service that, 77.4% of Ghanaians were negatively affected by the increased prices in food sold in the country. Without immediate and effective management as well as policy interventions from the Ghanaian government, it is highly possible for most farmers and agricultural businesses to completely collapse. This communication is to highlight some ongoing and disturbing effects of the pandemic to policymakers as well as individual and governmental strategies that have been put in place to curb adverse effects on food production. This will help enhance Ghanaians’ standards of living amidst economic challenges

    Get PDF
High cost of poultry feed and limited fishmeal are currently the major challenges in poultry production. To reduce cost while maximizing production, there is the need to use cheap but high nutritional feed sources like Moringa oleifera. The aim of the study was to assess the effects of Moringa oleifera on the growth performance of broiler chicken by measuring their live weight, rate of mortality, feed conversion ratio and benefit cost (b/c) ratio. Field experiment was carried out at the Animal Science Department farm, located in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi-Ghana. A total of 30- day old chicks were raised for eight weeks under the required conditions, with all vaccines administered appropriately. The experiment was laid in a Complete Randomized Design with five treatments namely T1= 100% conventional feed only (as control), T2= 50% MoLM (Moringa oleifera Leaf Meal) + 50% conventional, T3= 75% MoLM + 25% conventional, T4= 25% MoLM + 75% conventional, T5= 80% MoLM and each treatment replicated six times. The result showed no significant differences between the various treatment for the feed conversion ratio and live weight at different growth periods. The benefit/cost ratio of T1 was more than one while the other treatments were less than one. T4 (25% MoLM) had a b/c ratio close to one. In conclusion, Moringa oleifera leaf meal at different levels can be used to supplement the fishmeal component in the poultry diet of broiler chicken to produce similar results as that of the conventional feed. The study recommends that farmers can adopt Moringa oleifera based poultry feed for their bird production when they cannot afford the conventional feed (fish meal-based feed) to cut down cost economically while increasing productivity
