Plasmonic Magnetooptic Structures for Visualization of Magnetic Information

    Get PDF
Optical head with magnetized garnet layer is used to detect presence of thin ferromagnetic layers such as printed text. Mathematical model of the system was created. Incident P-polarized light affected by garnet layer changes its polarization due to Faraday effect. We can detect presence or absence of magnetic information after studying changes in polarization of the reflected light. Keywords: Magnetoplasmonic, Faraday effect, magnetoplasmonic structure, Magneto-optic plasmon resonance

Insights from the classical MD simulations

Salt bridges and ionic interactions play an important role in protein stability, protein-protein interactions, and protein folding. Here, we provide the classical MD simulations of the structure and IR signatures of the arginine (Arg)–glutamate (Glu) salt bridge. The Arg-Glu model is based on the infinite polyalanine antiparallel two-stranded β-sheet structure. The 1 μs NPT simulations show that it preferably exists as a salt bridge (a contact ion pair). Bidentate (the end-on and side-on structures) and monodentate (the backside structure) configurations are localized [Donald et al., Proteins 79, 898–915 (2011)]. These structures are stabilized by the short +N–H⋯O− bonds. Their relative stability depends on a force field used in the MD simulations. The side-on structure is the most stable in terms of the OPLS-AA force field. If AMBER ff99SB-ILDN is used, the backside structure is the most stable. Compared with experimental data, simulations using the OPLS all-atom (OPLS-AA) force field describe the stability of the salt bridge structures quite realistically. It decreases in the following order: side-on > end-on > backside. The most stable side-on structure lives several nanoseconds. The less stable backside structure exists a few tenth of a nanosecond. Several short-living species (solvent shared, completely separately solvated ionic groups ion pairs, etc.) are also localized. Their lifetime is a few tens of picoseconds or less. Conformational flexibility of amino acids forming the salt bridge is investigated. The spectral signature of the Arg-Glu salt bridge is the IR-intensive band around 2200 cm−1. It is caused by the asymmetric stretching vibrations of the +N–H⋯O− fragment. Result of the present paper suggests that infrared spectroscopy in the 2000–2800 frequency region may be a rapid and quantitative method for the study of salt bridges in peptides and ionic interactions between proteins. This region is usually not considered in spectroscopic studies of peptides and proteins

Specificity of Correlation Pattern Recognition Methods Application in Security Holograms Identity Control Apparatus

    Get PDF
AbstractAutomatic inspection of security hologram (SH) identity is highly demanded issue due high distribution of SH worldwide to protect documents such as passports, driving licenses, banknotes etc. While most of the known approaches use inspection of SH design features none of these approaches inspect the features of its surface relief that is a direct contribution to original master matrix used for these holograms production. In our previous works we represented the device that was developed to provide SH identification by processing of coherent responses of its surface elements. Most of the algorithms used in this device are based on application of correlation pattern recognition methods. The main issue of the present article is a description of these methods application specificities

Detection of New Variable DNA Loci That Distinguish Medievalis Biovar Strains of Plague Agent from the Strains of Other Biovars

    Get PDF
Variable chromosome loci have been searched, that differentiate Yersinia pestis strains of medievalis from antiqua biovars. The strains of medievalis biovar are shown to possess two deletions – 183 and 70 bps. The first deletion, localized in the inter-gene region aceA – aceK is present in the majority of medievalis biovar strains, the second one, in the gene y1694 , is determined in all medievalis biovar strains isolated in the territory of Russia and neighboring countries

The study purpose is the statement of need to implement transformations in the field of lean manufacturing introduction (Lean-transformations) in the form of projects. The article introduces a concept of lean production project (Lean-project), the particular projects possessing the special aspects to be taken into consideration in the course of their implementation at various enterprises. The article demonstrates the benefits of Lean-transformations at applying the methods of project management. The key distinction of such projects is their result to be received upon completion. The result of the investment projects completion is to put into place a product or a service. The result of Lean-projects implementation is the introduction of lean manufacturing tools at the industrial enterprises to consequently obtain cost-effectiveness and a number of competitive advantages. Thus, the investment projects and Lean-projects are different in their constituent elements the study of which will make possible to formulate a system view of lean manufacturing project implementation. The article in general is focused on combination of two potent methodological frameworks-Project Management and Lean Manufacturing, each of which provides a means of obtaining significant benefits at their expert implementation and use. Combination of these is urged to provide multiplicative effect in the course of putting into practice the transformations at the industrial enterprises. However, to achieve the due effect it is necessary to be guided by the peculiar features of lean manufacturing projects what will necessarily call forth the correction of lean manufacturing methodological framework and derogation from stringent requirements of Lean Thinking concept

Physical Processes and Plasma Parameters in a Radio-Frequency Hybrid Plasma System for Thin-Film Production with Ion Assistance

    Get PDF
The results of the study of the plasma reactor on the combined magnetron discharge and radio-frequency (RF) inductive discharge located in the external magnetic field are presented. Magnetron discharge provides the generation of atoms and ions of the target materials, while the flow of accelerated ions used for the ion assistance is provided by the RF inductive discharge located in an external magnetic field. Approaching the region of resonant absorption of RF power by optimizing the magnitude and configuration of the external magnetic field makes it possible to obtain a uniform within 10% radial distribution of the ion current across the diameter of 150 mm. When the RF power supply power is 1000 W, the ion current density on the substrate can be adjusted in the range of 0.1–3 mA/cm2. The use of ion assisting results in a fundamental change in the structure and properties of functional coatings, deposited using a magnetron
