Transitioning Vocational Education and Training in Africa: A Social Skills Ecosystem Perspective

The transition to more just and sustainable development requires radical change across a wide range of areas and particularly within the nexus between learning and work. This book takes an expansive view of vocational education and training that goes beyond the narrow focus of much of the current literature and policy debate. Drawing on case studies across rural and urban settings in Uganda and South Africa, the book offers a new way of seeing this issue through an exploration of the multiple ways in which people learn to have better livelihoods. Crucially, it explores learning that takes place informally online, within farmers’ groups, and in public and private educational institutions. Offering new insights and ways of thinking about this field, the book draws out clear implications for theory, policy and practice in Africa and beyond

Repairing Real-Time Requirements

International audienceWe consider the problem of repairing inconsistent real-time requirements with respect to two consistency notions: non-vacuity, which means that each requirement can be realized without violating other ones, and rt-consistency, which means that inevitable violations are detected immediately. We provide an iterative algorithm, based on solving SMT queries, to replace designated parameters of real-time requirements with new Boolean expressions and time constraints, so that the resulting set of requirements becomes consistent

Incremental methods for checking real-time consistency

Ensuring that requirements are consistent is essential so that they do not conflict and admit implementations. We consider the formal verification of rt-consistency, which imposes that the inevitability of definitive errors of a requirement should be anticipated, and that of partial consistency, which was recently introduced as a more effective check. We generalize and formalize both notions for discrete-time timed automata, develop three incremental algorithms, and present experimental results
