The purpose of this paper is to explain the positive effect music therapy has on people. The paper will study and understand the role music plays in one’s life. In order to do that, we will be looking at different ways music therapy is used on people through research papers and articles. We found that music therapy does have an important role that emits positive effects on people who have had a stroke, depression, or suffer from trauma, Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism and Parkinson disease. This paper talks about how music therapy can be administered in these seven topics. It also explains the differences between psychological and physiological music therapy. One has to do with psychological life of patients with music being applied to them. It applies to depression, trauma, Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Physiological has to the with the physical life of music therapy in certain cases like Parkinson’s disease, stroke, autism and Alzheimer’s. I am also looking at the similarities between psychological and physiological music therapy. By looking into these I am able to know what kind of music therapy would work for the patients. Psychological therapy could be administered with active or passive music therapy. Physiological can be mainly administered with passive music therapy, but there are some cases where active music therapy does play a part. I will be going further into the discussion about these types of music therapy

Black Press Coverage of the Emmett Till Lynching as a Catalyst to the Civil Rights Movement

BLACK PRESS COVERAGE OF THE EMMETT TILL LYNCHING AS A CATALYST TO THE CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT by MICHAEL OBY Under the Direction of Leonard Teel ABSTRACT The movement for civil rights in America gathered momentum throughout the 1950s. In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Brown vs. The Board of Education ruling, declaring unconstitutional permissive or mandatory school segregation, the white South responded with both passive and active resistance. In the midst of this ferment, an African-American boy from Chicago was lynched in Mississippi. Subsequent stories in the black press reported not only Emmett Till’s murder and the trial, but also a widening mobilization within the race, notably the creation of associations in defense of civil rights. The coverage of news and views in the black press provide substantial evidence that this mobilization ignited the civil rights movement of the mid-1950s, just months before the Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott led by Martin Luther King Jr. This research supports the view that the black community’s mobilization during the months after Till’s murder served as a catalyst for the civil rights movement

Global Financial Crisis and African Economies (With Sub Saharan Specifics)

The illusion that African countries have escaped the adverse consequences of the global financial and economic crisis is becoming transparent, judging from the dire aftershocks of the global downturn, although the ultimate effects on individual countries are still inconsistent and unpredictable. The medium-term reactions of trade partners, donor countries, and private investors are still unknown. Today, the impact on Africa appears to centre around three major channels: global trade, capital flows, and policy responses. Efforts to mitigate Africa’s pain should be continent specific; the international community may choose specific actions to address the fiscal, balance-of-payments shocks and the gaps in private capital. Regardless of steps taken externally, African leaders should seize the opportunity to develop homemade strategies to address her problems. In the mean time monetary control must continue to prioritize its mandates of inflation targeting or growth in a way that complement regulation. Regulatory duties should be more innovative on its core mandate of financial stability. Circulation and Consumption: Transnational Mass Tourism in Cancun, Mexico

    Get PDF
Cancun’s packaged image of paradise is a dynamic and constantly flowing contestation of identity and livelihood for those involved in the service sector. Indigeneity is used as spectacle, prop, and entertainment in the tourism industry and is especially popular in mass tourism zones like Cancun. Circulation of not only bodies, but theory surrounding authenticity and indigeneity, are all represented in the hyper-commodification that defines mass tourism. Cancun uses transnational connections for marketing of space, goods, and people that are in a constant state of circulation. Looking at the rise of the tourism industry in Cancun processually leads us to explore this moment of mistrust between movements between the United States and Mexico. Violence throughout the border between these countries leads to fear that mass media instills in its audiences. How are these emerging attitudes of fear affecting mass tourism in Mexico? What are the effects of mass tourism on its locality? Using a transnational framework helps to decode complex structures of circulation in Cancun’s mass tourism industry

    Get PDF
The principal purpose of this paper is to discuss the legal aspects of the global efforts to ban and eliminate landmines. In doing this, it is considered necessary to explain what landmines are; the nature and extent of security, social and environmental problems posed by landmines; the history and development of the international campaign to adopt a treaty banning landmines; and efforts made, and still being made, to implement that treaty. In these discussions, Nigeria will be used as a case study

This paper explores the ways that technology, specifically the use of laptop computers and cellular phones, may be incorporated in the EFL classroom to enhance learning and lower the affective filter of male Saudi Arabian university students. Saudi Arabia presents the EFL teacher with many challenges that are unique to this gender-segregated Islamic kingdom. Meeting these challenges and turning them into learning opportunities that other EFL teachers may find useful within their teaching contexts is the purpose of this paper. The appendix includes a writing rubric and a 40-day materials introduction calendar. The calendar illustrates the day-by-day introduction of material into the classroom. The calendar follows the eight-week, 40-day, analysis contained within the best practices section of this paper
