Population genetic structure of Culex quinquefasciatus in India by ISSR marker
AbstractObjectiveTo characterize the genetic structure of various populations of Culex quinquefasciatus (Cx. quinquefasciatus) from India representing different geoclimatic locations.MethodsInter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers were used. A set of 20 primers were screened with the laboratory populations of mosquito species. Finally the IS 40 primer was chosen based on the scorable banding pattern showing 100 percent polymorphism among the various populations. The statistical analysis was done using POPGENE 1.31 software. The consensus tree was generated based on UPGMA modified from NEIGHBOR procedure of PHYLIP Version 3.5.ResultsThe cluster analysis shows the main cluster which is divided into two sub cluster representing all the populations separated as per their phylogeographic and geoclimatic condition.ConclusionsThe findings will be helpful in understanding the population variation under different ecological conditions and development of effective vector management strategies
INSOLVENCY LAWS: A WALL OF CONTROL OVER CORPORATE WORLD
This paper examines the current Insolvency Regime of the country and is based upon the pitfalls and inadequacy of insolvency legislations hegemonizing corporate sector in India.
Debt Financing: A fundamental activity by Corporate Persons
“The Pecking Order theory says that the firm will borrow, rather than issuing equity, when internal cash flow is not sufficient to fund capital expenditure” (Myers, 2001)1. In the process of financing a new venture the directors of a corporate firm estimate two major outcomes- whether the venture will maximize profit, or it will increase overall valuation of the firm. While the former outcome is limited to increase in wealth of shareholders, later increases market share, market value and overall income power of the corporation. Debt financing is a process which undertakes less cost of raising capital compared with equity issue, but it undermines the objective of profit because interest on liability is an expense, however, the corporation benefits in long run. Issuing equity to dilute current share of stakeholders is an indication to overvalued stock and on the other hand utilizing debt to fund a project is a sign of capability
Giant Magnetic Fluctuations at the Critical Endpoint in Insulating HoMnO3
Although abundant research has focused recently on the quantum criticality of itinerant magnets, critical phenomena of insulating magnets in the vicinity of critical endpoints (CEP's) have rarely been revealed. Here we observe an emergent CEP at 2.05 T and 2.2 K with a suppressed thermal conductivity and concomitant strong critical fluctuations evident via a divergent magnetic susceptibility (e.g., ????????(2.05 T,2.2 K)/????????(3 T,2.2 K)≈23,500%, comparable to the critical opalescence in water) in the hexagonal insulating antiferromagnet HoMnO3. © 2013 American Physical Society.open1
Identification of micro satellite markers on chromosomes of bread wheat showing an association with karnal bunt resistance
A set of 104 wheat recombinant inbred lines developed from a cross between parents resistant (HD 29) and susceptible (WH 542) to karnal bunt (caused by Neovossia indica) were screened and used toidentify SSR markers linked with resistance to karnal bunt as these would allow indirect marker assisted selection of karnal bunt resistant genotypes. The two parents were analysed with 46 SSR primer pairs. Of these, 15 (32%) were found polymorphic between the two parental genotypes. Using these primer pairs, we carried out bulked segregate analysis on two bulked DNAs, one obtained by pooling DNA from 10 karnal bunt resistant recombinant inbred lines and the other similarly derived by pooling DNA from 10 karnal bunt susceptible recombinant inbred lines. Two molecular markers, Xgwm 337-1D and Xgwm 637-4A showed apparent linkage with resistance to karnal bunt. This was confirmed following selective genotyping of individual recombinant inbred lines included in the bulks. These markers may be useful in marker assisted selection for karnal bunt resistance in wheat
αA-Crystallin Peptide 66SDRDKFVIFLDVKHF80 Accumulating in Aging Lens Impairs the Function of α-Crystallin and Induces Lens Protein Aggregation
The eye lens is composed of fiber cells that are filled with α-, β- and γ-crystallins. The primary function of crystallins is to maintain the clarity of the lens through ordered interactions as well as through the chaperone-like function of α-crystallin. With aging, the chaperone function of α-crystallin decreases, with the concomitant accumulation of water-insoluble, light-scattering oligomers and crystallin-derived peptides. The role of crystallin-derived peptides in age-related lens protein aggregation and insolubilization is not understood. We found that αA-crystallin-derived peptide, (66)SDRDKFVIFLDVKHF(80), which accumulates in the aging lens, can inhibit the chaperone activity of α-crystallin and cause aggregation and precipitation of lens crystallins. Age-related change in the concentration of αA-(66-80) peptide was estimated by mass spectrometry. The interaction of the peptide with native crystallin was studied by multi-angle light scattering and fluorescence methods. High molar ratios of peptide-to-crystallin were favourable for aggregation and precipitation. Time-lapse recordings showed that, in the presence of αA-(66-80) peptide, α-crystallin aggregates and functions as a nucleus for protein aggregation, attracting aggregation of additional α-, β- and γ-crystallins. Additionally, the αA-(66-80) peptide shares the principal properties of amyloid peptides, such as β-sheet structure and fibril formation. These results suggest that crystallin-derived peptides such as αA-(66-80), generated in vivo, can induce age-related lens changes by disrupting the structure and organization of crystallins, leading to their insolubilization. The accumulation of such peptides in aging lenses may explain a novel mechanism for age-related crystallin aggregation and cataractogenesis
Tissue is the issue-sarcoidosis following ABVD chemotherapy for Hodgkin's lymphoma: a case report
Thirty two year old Caucasian female presented 2 months post partum with fevers, cough and shortness of breath. CT scan of the chest to rule out pulmonary embolism revealed mediastinal lymphadenopathy. Biopsy of the nodes revealed classic Hodgkin's lymphoma and she received ABVD chemotherapy. She was in remission as confirmed by a PET/CT scan. Five months later she had another PET/CT scan which showed areas of hypermetabolism indicating a possible relapse. Biopsy revealed sarcoidosis. She received steroids and 18 months later remained in clinical remission. This rare case of sarcoid following classic Hodgkin's lymphoma illustrates that clinical presentation, physical exam, lab investigations and even PET/CT scans may not be able to discriminate between Hodgkin's lymphoma and sarcoidosis. Tissue biopsy and pathological diagnosis remain the gold standard
Dilution of the Doctrine of Survivorship
The doctrine of survivorship was a model of property division, prevalent in the Mitakshara school of thought under Hindu legal traditions. It was a heavily patriarchal system which essentially mandated the division of the estate solely among the male claimants, terming them as coparceners. This selective exclusion of female descendants and disqualification of legal heirs’ claim in their ancestral property was gradually diluted and ultimately abolished via a series of legislations and amendments, providing females a greater equitable claim, a guaranteed share and a set of complimentary rights. This article documents this process and its impact, via examples of important cases and critical outlook of the currently persisting issues in the much-transformed doctrine
Transition probabilities for general birth-death processes with applications in ecology, genetics, and evolution
A birth-death process is a continuous-time Markov chain that counts the
number of particles in a system over time. In the general process with
current particles, a new particle is born with instantaneous rate
and a particle dies with instantaneous rate . Currently no robust and
efficient method exists to evaluate the finite-time transition probabilities in
a general birth-death process with arbitrary birth and death rates. In this
paper, we first revisit the theory of continued fractions to obtain expressions
for the Laplace transforms of these transition probabilities and make explicit
an important derivation connecting transition probabilities and continued
fractions. We then develop an efficient algorithm for computing these
probabilities that analyzes the error associated with approximations in the
method. We demonstrate that this error-controlled method agrees with known
solutions and outperforms previous approaches to computing these probabilities.
Finally, we apply our novel method to several important problems in ecology,
evolution, and genetics
