    The Pierre Robin sequence is characterized by hypoplasia of mandibular area causing micrognathia, glossoptosis and cleft palate in newborns. Its etiopathogenesis is still much discussed in the literature and there is still no consensus on the causal factors of the disease, as well as its treatment, although much discussed, is not fully established. The present article reports a case of a newborn female with the diagnosis of Pierre Robin's Sequence, its evolution until the seventh month of life and planning of therapeutic conduct.     EVALUATION OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN C/T-13910 POLYMORPHISM GENOTYPING RESULTS AND LACTOSE TOLERANCE TEST RESULTS: A RETROSPECTIVE POPULATION-BASED STUDY IN BRAZIL

    ABSTRACT Background: Lactose tolerant test (LTT) is the most broadly used diagnostic test for lactose intolerance in Brazil, is an indirect, minimally invasive and a low-cost test that is widely available in primary care and useful in clinical practice. The C/T-13910 polymorphism in lactase persistence has been well characterized in Caucasian populations, but there are no studies evaluating the concordance between C/T-13910 polymorphism genotyping results and LTT results in Brazil, where the population is highly mixed. Objective: We aimed to evaluate agreement between presence of C/T-13910 polymorphism genotyping and malabsorption in LTT results. Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of a Brazilian population whose data were collected from a single laboratory database present in several Brazilian states. Results of individuals who underwent both genetic testing for lactose intolerance (C/T-13910 polymorphism genotyping) and an LTT from April 2016 until February 2019 were analysed to evaluate agreement between tests. Groups were classified according to age (<10-year-old (yo), 10-17 yo, ≥18 yo groups) and state of residence (São Paulo or Rio Grande do Sul). Results: Among the 404 patients evaluated, there was agreement between the genotyping and LTT results in 325 (80.4%) patients and discordance in 79 (19.6%) patients (k=0.42 -moderate agreement). Regarding the genotype, 47 patients with genotype C/C (lactase nonpersistence) had normal LTT results, and 32 with genotype C/T or T/T (indicating lactase persistence) had abnormal LTT results. Neither age nor state of residence (Rio Grande do Sul or São Paulo) affected the agreement between test results. Conclusion: Considering the moderate agreement between C/T-13910 polymorphism genotyping and LTT results (κ=0.42) in the Brazilian population, we hypothesize that an analysis of other polymorphisms could be a strategy to improve the agreement between genotyping and established tests and suggest that additional studies should focus on exploring this approach

    Hybrid capture II and PapilloCheck® tests for detection of anal high-risk human papillomavirus

    Introduction: This study evaluated the level of concordance between hybrid capture II (HCII) and PapilloCheck® for the detection of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) in anal samples. Methods: Anal cell samples collected from 42 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)+ patients were analyzed. Results: Considering only the 13 high-risk HPV types that are detectable by both tests, HCII was positive for 52.3% of the samples, and PapilloCheck® was positive for 52.3%. The level of concordance was 80.9% (Kappa = 0.61). Conclusions: Good concordance was observed between the tests for the detection of high-risk HPV

    Este estudo tem por objetivo geral analisar a relevância e a necessidade da inserção de Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação em classes de Educação Infantil, destacando a Formação Docente como recurso catalisador deste processo perpassando pela contextualização histórica da inserção das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação no âmbito escolar, assim como os tipos que mais são utilizados em sala de aula pelos docentes; pela descrição em linhas gerais da formação docente frente às novas tecnologias e suas aplicabilidades em sala de aula por fim pela apresentação dos desafios e as possibilidades do uso das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação para a efetividade do processo de ensino e aprendizagem de estudantes da Educação Infantil. Adotou-se a pesquisa bibliográfica como método para coleta de dados e informações para construção do artigo, chegando-se à conclusão que é fundamental que os profissionais da educação compreendam como deve se dar a aplicação de forma assertiva das tecnologias em suas práticas pedagógicas, de modo que seus alunos desenvolvam a aprendizagem significativa construindo conceitos e consequentemente os empregando em seus cotidianos

    Burnout syndrome: understanding of medical teaching professionals

    This study aimed to investigate the understanding of medical teaching professionals about Burnout Syndrome. This is a qualitative, exploratory study, consisting of ten teaching physicians, who work at the hospital of a higher education institution. The data were collected from May to June 2013, through a form with questions pertinent to the proposed research objective, after approval by the Research Ethics Committee (Protocol No. 84022), and analyzed qualitatively, through the content analysis technique (Bardin). Among the 10 participants in the study, eight had adequate knowledge about Burnout Syndrome, while others showed insufficient knowledge. From the empirical material analysis, five thematic categories emerged: Syndrome characterized by physical and psychological exhaustion due to work stress; Physical and psychological signs and symptoms of Burnout Syndrome; Burnout syndrome and its implications for the worker’s health; The most vulnerable workers who develop Burnout Syndrome and Relation of Burnout Syndrome to the work of the teaching physician. The study showed that most participants in the research adequately understand Burnout Syndrome, but the subject is still little explored in academia. Therefore, intervention measures are necessary with the professionals of the risk group and new studies that contribute to expand the knowledge about that syndrome, aiming to improve the quality of life of the workers.     Avaliação dos efeitos adversos em pacientes em uso de capecitabina: um estudo randomizado

    Introdução: A capecitabina é um medicamento oral utilizado na terapia anticâncer e pode causar efeitos adversos (EA) com implicações clínicas no tratamento e na qualidade de vida dos pacientes. Farmacêuticos oncológicos podem desempenhar importante papel no gerenciamento dos EA. No entanto, são escassos estudos que avaliam o impacto clínico desses.&nbsp; Este estudo tem como objetivo identificar as consequências clínicas dos EA à capecitabina no tratamento dos pacientes com câncer colorretal, câncer gástrico e câncer anal em um hospital de referência em oncologia na cidade do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Métodos: Estudo longitudinal, prospectivo e randomizado com pacientes em uso de capecitabina entre abril e outubro de 2022. Os EA foram classificados quanto à gravidade. As consequências clínicas dos EA foram avaliadas por meio da suspensão temporária ou definitiva do tratamento e/ou redução da dose de capecitabina. A análise estatística foi conduzida pelos Testes de Fisher, Qui-quadrado e Shapiro - Wilk. Resultados: Foram incluídos no estudo 25 pacientes, com idade média de 59,6 anos. Os EA mais frequentes foram diarreia (60,0%), náusea (48,0%) e vômito (32,0%). A maioria dos EA (87,9%) ocorreu em grau leve e durante o primeiro ou segundo ciclo de quimioterapia (52,9%). Conclusões: O estudo evidenciou que os EA à capecitabina causam consequências clínicas ao tratamento do paciente. A menor gravidade de síndrome mão-pé sugere a eficácia da medida preventiva de distribuição de hidratante e educação do paciente, além de tornar essencial o Acompanhamento Farmacoterapêutico na identificação dos efeitos adversos e implementação de medidas de manejo com melhorias na qualidade do tratamento dos pacientes em uso de capecitabina

    Brazilian Amazon Traditional Medicine and the Treatment of Difficult to Heal Leishmaniasis Wounds with Copaifera

    The present study describes the use of the traditional species Copaifera for treating wounds, such as ulcers scarring and antileishmanial wounds. It also relates phytochemical studies, evaluation of the leishmanicidal activity, and toxicity. The species of Copaifera with a higher incidence in the Amazon region are Copaifera officinalis, Copaifera reticulata, Copaifera multijuga Hayne. The copaiba oil is used in the Amazon’s traditional medicine, especially as anti-inflammatory ingredient, in ulcers healing, and in scarring and for leishmaniasis. Chemical studies have shown that these oils contain diterpenes and sesquiterpenes. The copaiba oil and terpenes isolated have antiparasitic activity, more promising in the amastigote form of L. amazonensis. This activity is probably related to changes in the cell membrane and mitochondria. The oil showed low cytotoxicity and genotoxicity. Furthermore, it may interfere with immune response to infection and also has a healing effect. In summary, the copaiba oil is promising as leishmanicidal agent

    Nursing Professionals And Occupational Accidents

    The current study has the objective to identify main work accidents that occurs with nursing workers. This is an integrative literature review that enabled to include scientific articles indexed in the databases of Virtual Library in Health (BVS). Searches were made from october to november 2016, using the descriptors: “work accidents”, “nursing professionals”, separated between themselves by the boolean operator AND. The following criteria were adopted: fully available articles, in portuguese language, published in the last five years. Articles that presented some duplicity and didn’t meet the proposed study objectives were excluded. After searches, ten scientific productions about the subject were selected. Results indicate the occurrence of accidents between nursing professionals and the main factors were related with sharp object handling, non-utilization of IPEs, excessive workload and needle resurfacing. It is concluded that strategies are required to minimize these occurrences, as the adoption of standard precautionary measures, the adequacy of staff numbers and better work conditions to this professional category. Besides that, the need of new researches about this subject are emphasized
