A Dyadic Approach to Examining the Emotional Intelligence–Work Outcome Relationship: The Mediating Role of LMX
Adopting a dyadic approach, we examine the processes through which leader–member exchange (LMX) mediates the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and work outcomes. Fitting the data from a survey of 204 unique pairs of leaders and followers to an actor–partner independence model (APIM), we found that follower EI positively affects LMX as perceived by both dyad members, whereas leader EI is positively related to only leader ratings of LMX. Using polynomial regression, we also found that EI similarity between the leader and follower has a positive relationship with both leader and follower ratings of LMX. Follower LMX partially mediates the relationship between follower EI and attitudinal outcomes (i.e., organizational commitment and job satisfaction) and organizational citizenship behavior. Leader LMX fully mediates the effect of both leader and follower EI on evaluations of job performance. Implications and limitations are discussed
Social Perception of the Residents of Olón, Montañita, and Valdivia as a Conditioning Factor in the Satisfaction of Tourists
This research aims to understand the social perception of the communities of Olón, Montañita, and Valdivia in the sociocultural, socio-territorial, and socio-cognitive dimensions, as a determining factor in the satisfaction of national and foreign tourists in terms of destination, service, and infrastructure. The design is nonexperimental, with a correlational scope and a mixed approach. Data collection techniques used were a semi-structured interview with 24 residents and a survey of 396 residents and 396 tourists. STATIS Dual and MPLS (multiway partial least squares) were the software used for the treatment of quantitative information. It was determined that the social perception in the three communes was relatively similar, the sociocultural dimension being the best scored for being linked to the tourist development of Olón and Montañita. Whereas a significant difference was observed between the communes in terms of tourist satisfaction, placing Montañita as the leader in all dimensions of the variable, followed by Olón and Valdivia. With an adjustment of 69%, the MPLS model was directly related to the variables, implying that any change in the perception of the residents affects the satisfaction of tourists.

Resumen
El objetivo de esta investigación es conocer la percepción social de las comunidades de Olón, Montañita y Valdivia en las dimensiones socio cultural, socio territorial y socio cognitivo, como condicionante en la satisfacción de los turistas nacionales y extranjeros en cuanto al destino, servicio e infraestructura. El diseño es no experimental, de alcance correlacional y enfoque mixto; como técnicas de recolección de datos se utilizaron: entrevista semi estructurada a 24 residentes y, encuesta a 396 residentes y 396 turistas. Para el tratamiento de la información cuantitativa se utilizaron software STATIS Dual y MPLS (Multiway partial least squares). Se determinó que la percepción social en las tres comunas es relativamente similar, siendo la dimensión socio cultural la mejor puntuada por encontrarse ligada al desarrollo turístico de Olón y Montañita; mientras que, existe diferencia significativa entre las comunas en cuanto a satisfacción de los turistas, colocando a Montañita como líder en todas las dimensiones de la variable, seguida de Olón y Valdivia. Con un ajuste de 69%, el modelo MPLS relacionó directamente las variables, implicando que cualquier cambio en la percepción de los residentes incide sobre la satisfacción de los turistas.

An empirical and modelling approach to the evaluation of cruise ships' influence on air quality: The case of La Paz, Mexico
Maritime activity has diverse environmental consequences impacts in port areas, especially for air quality, and the post-COVID-19 cruise tourism market's potential to recover and grow is causing new environmental concerns in expanding port cities. This research proposes an empirical and modelling approach for the evaluation of cruise ships' influence on air quality concerning NO2 and SO2 in the city of La Paz (Mexico) using indirect measurements. EPA emission factors and the AERMOD modelling system coupled to WRF were used to model dispersions, while street-level mobile monitoring data of air quality from two days of 2018 were used and processed using a radial base function interpolator. The local differential Moran's Index was estimated at the intersection level using both datasets and a co-location clustering analysis was performed to address spatial constancy and to identify the pollution levels. The modelled results showed that cruise ships' impact on air quality had maximum values of 13.66 µg/m3 for NO2 and 15.71 µg/m3 for SO2, while background concentrations of 8.80 for NOx and 0.05 for SOx (µg/m3) were found by analysing the LISA index values for intersections not influenced by port pollution. This paper brings insights to the use of hybrid methodologies as an approach to studying the influence of multiple-source pollutants on air quality in contexts totally devoid of environmental data.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Evaluation of the nutritional quality of Chaetoceros muelleri Schütt (Chaetocerotales: Chaetocerotaceae) and Isochrysis sp. (Isochrysidales: isochrysidaceae) grown outdoors for the larval development of Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone, 1931) (Decapoda: Penaeidae)
The biomass, proximal composition and fatty acid profile of Isochrysis sp., Chaetoceros muelleri and their mixture, grown under greenhouse conditions, were evaluated. The nutritional value of both species supplied as the monoalgal (Chaetoceros muelleri: Diet I, and Isochrysis sp. Diet II) and mixed diet (Diet III) for larval Litopenaeus vannamei was also assessed on the basis of the development and biochemical composition of the larvae. The highest protein levels were obtained in Diets I and II (40% and 35%, respectively). No significant differences in larval survival were found among the diets; however, larvae fed on Diet II had the lowest mean larval length
Conduits for myocardial revascularization grafts: the importance of morphology and imaging
The therapeutic options for patients with multivessel coronary artery disease, consist of pharmacological treatment, percutaneous coronary intervention and coronary artery bypass graft surgery. The ultimate goal of this surgery is to achieve complete revascularization with conduits that remain permeable for the remainder of the life of the patient. Some of the conduits used in this type of surgery, are the great saphenous vein, the internal thoracic artery, the radial artery and the ulnar artery. For a vascular conduit to be selected as a coronary revascularization graft, it must exhibit the following characteristics: sufficient length, lumen diameter and thickness of the vessel wall. It must also have minimal in situ ischemic consequences and an acceptable permeability over time of the conduit.
Recent literatures of these conduits, as well as the importance of morphological and imaging studies are reviewed in this article
Seroprevalencia de anticuerpos contra el virus de hepatitis C (VHC) en trabajadoras sexuales que acuden a un Centro de Referencia de Infecciones de Transmisión Sexual (CERITSS) de la ciudad de Iquitos, Perú
Introducción: los principales factores de riesgo descritos para contraer la infección por el virus de la hepatitis C (VHC) son antecedentes de transfusión sanguínea y uso de droga endovenosa; el riesgo por transmisión sexual es controversial. Existen pocos estudios de VHC en trabajadoras sexuales (TS) en el Perú, encontrando bajas prevalencias de VHC (0-1%). El presente estudio se ha realizado en Iquitos, una ciudad en la selva peruana, en donde existe gran comercio sexual y la prevalencia de HIV/SIDA y otras Infecciones de Transmisión Sexual (ITS) es alta.
Objetivo: determinar la seroprevalencia de anticuerpos contra el VHC en TS de la ciudad de Iquitos atendidas en un Centro Especializado de Referencia de Infecciones de transmisión sexual (CERITSS) e identificar los factores de riesgo asociados a esta.
Material y métodos: es un estudio de corte transversal en TS quienes acudieron a su control periódico al CERITSS San Juan entre mayo 2003 a enero 2004. Una encuesta clínica-epidemiológica fue utilizada para determinar la frecuencia de factores de riesgo para adquirir la infección por VHC. Para determinar la presencia de anticuerpos contra el VHC, se utilizó la prueba de enzima inmunoensayo (EIA); todos los resultados positivos fueron confirmados con la prueba inmunoblot recombinante (RIBA).
Resultados: cuatro de las 200 TS enroladas en el estudio fueron positivos para la prueba EIA, todas ellas tuvieron resultados positivos de RIBA (prevalencia de 2%, IC95% 0,06-3,94%). Estas 4 TS reportaron ser naturales de Iquitos, tener mas de 5 años de trabajo sexual, reportaron un bajo uso de condón (<50%). Tres de ellas reportaron haber tenido mas de 9 parejas/ día, realizar trabajo sexual bajo efecto del alcohol y tener sexo anal frecuentemente. Ninguna refirió transfusiones sanguíneas, antecedente de tatuajes o uso de drogas endovenosas. Solo una de las 4 VHC positivas tuvo serología positiva para sífilis co-existentemente y ninguna para VIH. Una de las 200 TS enroladas tuvo infección por VIH.
Conclusiones: la seroprevalencia de anticuerpos contra el VHC en TS es mayor que la reportada en poblaciones similares en otras ciudades del Perú. Esta población se caracterizó por tener una conducta sexual de alto riesgo y no tener antecedentes de transfusión sanguínea ni consumo de droga endovenosa
Evaluating indices of traditional ecological knowledge: a methodological contribution
BACKGROUND: New quantitative methods to collect and analyze data have produced novel findings in ethnobiology. A common application of quantitative methods in ethnobiology is to assess the traditional ecological knowledge of individuals. Few studies have addressed reliability of indices of traditional ecological knowledge constructed with different quantitative methods. METHODS: We assessed the associations among eight indices of traditional ecological knowledge from data collected from 650 native Amazonians. We computed Spearman correlations, Chronbach's alpha, and principal components factor analysis for the eight indices. RESULTS: We found that indices derived from different raw data were weakly correlated (rho<0.5), whereas indices derived from the same raw data were highly correlated (rho>0.5; p < 0.001). We also found a relatively high internal consistency across data from the eight indices (Chronbach's alpha = 0.78). Last, results from a principal components factor analysis of the eight indices suggest that the eight indices were positively related, although the association was low when considering only the first factor. CONCLUSION: A possible explanation for the relatively low correlation between indices derived from different raw data, but relatively high internal consistency of the eight indices is that the methods capture different aspects of an individual's traditional ecological knowledge. To develop a reliable measure of traditional ecological knowledge, researchers should collect raw data using a variety of methods and then generate an aggregated measure that contains data from the various components of traditional ecological knowledge. Failure to do this will hinder cross-cultural comparisons
Desferrioxamine decreases NAD redox potential of intact red blood cells: evidence for desferrioxamine as an inducer of oxidant stress in red blood cells
BACKGROUND: Desferrioxamine (DFO) is an important iron chelating agent. It has also been thought of as an agent with anti-oxidant potential as it chelates ferric iron in various parts of the body. However, there is evidence suggesting that it may paradoxically affect red blood cells (RBC) by inducing intracellular oxidant stress. To further understand the mechanism of DFO's interaction with RBC, we conducted a study to determine the effect of DFO upon RBC's redox status. METHODS: We examined NAD redox potential in intact RBC (N = 5) incubated with DFO. RBC were incubated with 6 mM DFO for 2 hours. RESULTS: Significant decreases in NAD redox potential were observed after incubation of RBC with 6 mM DFO. The mean decrease was 10.01 ± 1.98% (p < 0.0004). CONCLUSIONS: The data confirm the oxidant effect of DFO on RBC

We introduce the incremental and cooperative version of the problem, IC-PHNDP for short, in which facilities are added incrementally to the network (one at a time), contributing to the service levels. We first develop a general non-linear model of this problem and then present a method to make it linear. As the problem is of a combinatorial nature, an efficient Variable Neighbourhood Search (VNS) algorithm is proposed to solve it. In order to gain insight into the problem, the computational studies were performed with randomly generated instances of different settings. Results clearly show that VNS performs well in solving IC-PHNDP with errors not more than 1.54%.Peer reviewe
