Improved Characterization of Heptane Plus Fraction of Niger Delta Light Crudes

    Get PDF
Accurate determination of molecular weight of heptane plus( ) fractions is essential in reliable phase behavior calculations and compositional EOS modeling studies. Empirical correlations provide cheaper alternatives in time and cost, to obtaining reliable molecular weight data than by experiments, though with compromised accuracies. Several empirical correlations developed to predict molecular weight of  fractionsof petroleum were reviewed. A new correlation for calculating molecular weight of heptane plus fractions of light crudes was developed from a database compiled from Niger Delta fields for over 1,200 light crude oil assays, conventional PVT reports, and literature data. The correlation was developed using rational multiple regression analysis method. The new correlation’s performance was compared with five others which do not depend on boiling point temperatures. Results showed that the new correlation has superior performance with the lowest absolute average and relative mean square errors. The new correlation had an average relative error of 8.15%, root mean square error of 0.09% and correlation coefficient of 0.955

Sustainability of Financial Inclusion to Rural Dwellers in Nigeria: Problems and Way Forward

Financial inclusion as the provision of a broad range of high quality financial products such as savings, credit, insurance, payments and pensions, which are relevant, appropriate and affordable for the entire adult population especially the low income segments of the economy. This study critically examines the sustainability of financial inclusion to rural dwellers in Nigeria using descriptive study and content analysis. The study observed that the sustainability of financial inclusion to rural dwellers in Nigeria remains the mainstream for economic growth in any country. The implication of this study is that economy cannot grow fast without proper implementation of financial inclusion to rural areas in Nigeria. The study recommended that the promotion of collaboration between Deposit Money Banks (DMBs), Microfinance Banks (MFBs) and Communication services providers for enhanced intermediation of financial services should be encouraged; there is need to educate rural dwellers on the importance of banking as it would facilitate the success of CBN financial inclusion policy and that since some of the rural dwellers preferred to keep money under their pillows at home, there should be proper enlightenment to change their orientation on financial inclusion in Nigeria. Keywords: Financial Services, financial inclusion, DMBs, rural dwellers, poverty reduction.

WOMEN PARTICIPATION IN SPORT: A CORRELATE OF BEING WELL TO PLAY WELL

    Get PDF
This paper is focused on participation of women in sport as a strategy of enhancing their ability to function effectively. It identified the influence of women involvement in sport on their ability to perform their role in the society. It solicited for participation of women in sport at all levels. It highlighted the benefits of women involvement in sport and strategies of motivating women into sport. It concluded by pointing out that since sport has the potential of giving women the leverage to increase their ability to function, they should be encouraged to delve into sport-related careers to enhance specialization. It explained ‘being well’ as the exhibition of satisfaction through effective performance of responsibility while ‘to play well’ is the demonstration of efficiency and high productivity. It recommended that policies which promote equity in sport participation should be implemented at all levels and opportunities for women involvement in sport should be expanded at all levels to encourage mass participation.  Article visualizations

Investigating electrical response to water saturation of Agbada sandstone in an x-field Niger delta, Nigeria

In an attempt to characterize a reservoir in a field, importance is given to living models as it serves critical function in estimating if the reservoir under study is economically viable. Having a good knowledge of electrical response to reservoir rocks is important in characterizing and modeling the behavior of fluids at the subsurface. In this study, core plugs extracted from core barrels in a Niger Delta oil field were analyzed in the laboratory in order to determine the electrical properties of the samples and their relationship with each other and formation fluid. This was achieved by using a brine of a known concentration for simulation of core plugs. Results obtained show that for the unconsolidated sandstone, Formation resistivity factor increases with increase in confining pressure. This characteristic depends on the porosity of the Formation and type of fluid present. Resistivity values in a reservoir will increase with increase in capillary pressure and decrease with water saturation. Decrease in cementation exponent increases the rate of permeability in reservoir sand. However, resistivity values decrease with clay presence in reservoir sand

Africa in Contemporary World Politics:The Dynamics and Effects of Domination

    Get PDF
Africa has always been part of global politics but majorly on the receiving end. After over five decades of independence, this situation has not changed and there is little reason to believe that positive change is to be expected under the prevailing configurations of power. Against, this background, this paper takes a critical look at the place of Africa in the contemporary world politics. It interrogates its politics of domination, examines the dynamics of that domination and its impacts which it summed under the rubrics of insecurity. Noting that under the established practices, rules and behavioral patterns of the global community that the vicious cycle of domination cannot be broken, the paper made radical recommendations on how best to escape domination. Key words: Domination, power of chaos, vicious cycle

Banking industry renders services to customers ranging from collection of deposits, opening various categories of account, deposit, current and savings account. Out of the volume of money-collected part are given out as loan to investors, individual, corporate bodies and the government. The aim of this study is to investigate the implication of marketing of banking services on the profitability of Nigerian banks. The scope of the study spanned from 2000 to 2012. The study made use of quantitative data and econometric techniques in assessing the level of implication. The result of the analysis shows that marketing of banking services have indeed had significant positive implication on profitability of Nigerian banks looking at the indicators of banks product or services such as savings account, current account, loan and advance, e-banking, payments and cash management, treasury services, etc. the study therefore recommend that bank customers, management and shareholders should adopt electronic banking operation so that it will increase the level of bank profitability; bank management should from time to time train their staff and customers with regards to services banks provide especially in the area of modern banking development and that the regulatory authorities (CBN, NDIC and Federal Ministry of Finance) should monitor the activities of commercial banks in terms of bank charges on services rendered to customers. This study was carried out with a view to examining the effect of inadequate training of P.E teachers and the dearth of equipment and facilities as predictors for ineffective teaching and learning of physical education in public primary schools in Ngor-Okpala  LGA, ImoState. The descriptive survey research design was used for the study. A total of one hundred(100)respondents selected from ten(10) PublicPrimarySchools that cut across the local government was used for the study. The instrument employed was a questionnaire while the statistical analysis was carried out using chi-square to test the hypotheses at 0.5 level of significance. The findings revealed that training of P.E teachers is key in the teaching and learning of PE in public primary schools while the provision of equipment and facilities is germane and will go a long way in helping to facilitate effective teaching and learning of PE in public primary schools. &nbsp

Then on interest of the junior secondary school's female students in sport is becoming a recurring-decimal and something urgent needs to be done to nip it in the bud if any meaningful stride is to be achieved in terms of catching them young at that level and this may not be achieved if the authorities concerned are not proactive. Based on the foregoing, Suggestions were made to the effect that Government should come up with a clearly formulated policy on sports that would engender greater participation among junior secondary school female students through improved funding, provision of sports facilities, and the need to package the sports activities in such a way that would meet the need and interest of the students as individuals and group. The focus of this review, therefore, is to examine the panacea to sports participation among selected female junior secondary schools students in Ahoada West LGA, Rivers stat
