The golden shiner, Notemigonus crysoleucaa, forms a monotypic species in the fish family, Cyprinidae. It is a medium-sized minnow which inhabits ponds and sluggish freshwater streams in North America from latitude; 30°N. to 50°N. In the south its range is restricted to the area east of the Appalachian Mountains. The northern and western part of the range extends to Wyoming and south to the drainages of the Arkansas and upper Ohio Rivers

Another olethreutine, Phaneta latens (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), attracted to the sex pheromone of the codling moth

The olethreutine, Phaneta latens (Heinrich), was attracted to the pheromone of the codling moth Cydia pomonella (L.) , (E,E)-8,lO-dodecadien-l-ol. Field trapping records indicated that flights of P. latens occurred between May 12 and June 20, 1978, with the greatest trap catches in late May. In 1979 flights occurred from May 15 to July 2, and the peak catches dispersed throughout May and June. Responses of P. latens to the pheromone was significantly less at concentrations of 0.25 mg/ trap than at 1.0 and 2,0 mg/trap; the latter two were equally attractive

Mclass: READING 3D— : UTILIZATION OF STUDENT DATA TO DETERMINE INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES

This dissertation is a program evaluation of a state-mandated early reading assessment program, titled mClass: Reading 3D, implemented in K–3 classrooms in a rural public school system in North Carolina. The purpose of this study was to research the following question: To what extent, if any, do teachers use student data to determine instructional practices that may impact student achievement? Data were collected from teacher surveys, principal and instructional coach interviews, and student test scores to determine the impact of mClass: Reading 3D on student reading achievement in second grade. The findings of this study revealed that mClass: Reading 3D had “no positive impact on student test scores after two years of implementation. However, mClass: Reading 3D has impacted instructional practices in the following areas: • Better utilization of data to improve student achievement • Improvements in differentiation, small group instruction, accountability, rigor, and utilization of teacher assistants The conclusions suggested there is a need for more specific and ongoing professional development to improve program implementation and fidelity. Other conclusions focused on the enhancement of mClass: Reading 3D data through teacher support and facilitation of literacy. The need for a reading specialist at every school and the removal of mClass: Reading 3D from third-grade classrooms are some of the recommendations provided for program improvement

Codling moth (Lepid.: Tortricidae): Disruption of sexual communication with an antipheromone [(E,E)-8,1O-dodecadien-1-O1 acetate]

Get PDF
When broadcast applications of [E, E]-8,10-dodecadien-1l-ol acetate an antipheromone of the codling moth, Cydia pomonella (L.), were made to apple or pear orchards, the catch of male codling moths was reduced in traps baited with either synthetic sex pheromone or virgin females. When the antipheromone, at a rate of 11.25g AI/0.4 ha was applied broadcast to pear trees using a ground dispenser, male response to pheromone- or female-baited traps was completely inhibited for 9 days with no significant reduction thereafter. Based on these and earlier results, it is concluded that (E,E)-8,10-dodecadien-1l-o1 acetate inhibits male codling moth response, whether the sources are placed in close proximity to the attractive agent or distributed in a broadcast application. These results contradict previous arguments that antipheromones as a group may not be effective in the field when used to permeate large volumes of air
