Overlapping Community Detection using Local Seed Expansion

    Get PDF
Communities are usually groups of vertices which have higher probability of being connected to each other than to members of other groups. Community detection in complex networks is one of the most popular topics in social network analysis. While in real networks, a person can be overlapped in multiple communities such as family, friends and colleagues, so overlapping community detection attracts   more and more attention.  Detecting communities from the local structural information of a small number of seed nodes is the successful methods for overlapping community detection. In this work, we propose an overlapping community detection algorithm using local seed expansion approach. Our local seed expansion algorithm selects the nodes with the highest degree as seed nodes and then locally expand these seeds with their entire vertex neighborhood into overlapping communities using Personalized PageRank algorithm. We use F1_score( node  level detection )  and NMI( community level detection ) measures to assess the performances of the proposed algorithm by comparing the proposed algorithm’s detected communities with ground_truth communities on many real_world networks. Experimental results show that our algorithm outperforms over other overlapping community detection methods in terms of accuracy and quality of overlapped communities

CONTROL OF LAND AND LIFE IN BURMA

The most significant land problems in Burma remain those associated with landlessness, rural poverty, inequality of access to resources, and a military regime that denies citizen rights and is determined to rule by force and not by law. A framework to ensure the sustainable development of land is needed to address social, legal, economic and technical dimensions of land management. This framework can only be created and implemented within and by a truly democratic nation.Agriculture and state -- Burma, Land use, rural--Burma, Land use, rural--Government policy--Burma, Agricultural policy -- Burma, Land administration -- Burma, Agricultural and Food Policy, Land Economics/Use,

Thesis(Master) --KDI School:Master of Public Policy,2019This study analyses the association between the exchange rate instability and external trade (exports & imports) of AMSs whether negative effect or positive effect or not. We use Generalized Moment Method for statistical test and GARCH models for the measurement of EXV. This study examined to investigate how exchange rate instability on exports and imports of rich and poor countries in Asia. This study applies the annual panel data for the time frame of 2008 to 2017. The result of this study confirms the inverse linkage between the exchange rate instability and the changes in the exports volume and the imports volume, and even in this case, the magnitude is generally small. The estimation shows that the increased in REER will induce exports and imports and TOT increase on exporting and decrease on exporting. The increasing of GDP and inflation will cause a higher volume of exports and imports. The FDI is a positive significant effect on exports as well. The study summarizes that monetary policy can take the actions to diminish the exchange rate uncertainty and fiscal policy as well.CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION CHAPTER TWO: LITERATURE REVIEWS CHAPTER THREE: METHODOLOGY CHAPTER FOUR: EMPIRICAL RESULTS CHAPTER FIVE: CONCLUSIONmasterpublishedLwin Khaing NYUNT

The main purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between teachers’ perceptions towards professional development and teachers’ job satisfaction at Monastic Primary School in Namlan, Hsipaw, Northern Shan State, Myanmar. A total of 60 full- time teachers from Monastic Primary School in Namlan Hsipaw, Northern Shan State, Myanmar during the academic year of 2017- 2018 were surveyed for this study. The research was designed as a quantitative and relationship study using the Guskey (2003) Professional development and Herzberg motivation-hygiene theory (1959) job satisfaction. The questionnaire used for this investigation consisted of two parts. There were 16 items pertaining to the three dimensions in part one which adopted from Meagher (2011), and 22 items with the six dimensions in part two which adopted from Mai (2013). The collected data were analyzed by using the mean, standard deviation and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. Although the research findings showed that there were no significant relationship between teachers’ perceptions towards professional development and their job satisfaction, the responses of the teachers showed that professional development activities are beneficial and useful for their career

Predictive geospatial analytics using principal component regression

    Get PDF
Nowadays, exponential growth in geospatial or spatial data all over the globe, geospatial data analytics is absolutely deserved to pay attention in manipulating voluminous amount of geodata in various forms increasing with high velocity. In addition, dimensionality reduction has been playing a key role in high-dimensional big data sets including spatial data sets which are continuously growing not only in observations but also in features or dimensions. In this paper, predictive analytics on geospatial big data using Principal Component Regression (PCR), traditional Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) model improved with Principal Component Analysis (PCA), is implemented on distributed, parallel big data processing platform. The main objective of the system is to improve the predictive power of MLR model combined with PCA which reduces insignificant and irrelevant variables or dimensions of that model. Moreover, it is contributed to present how data mining and machine learning approaches can be efficiently utilized in predictive geospatial data analytics. For experimentation, OpenStreetMap (OSM) data is applied to develop a one-way road prediction for city Yangon, Myanmar. Experimental results show that hybrid approach of PCA and MLR can be efficiently utilized not only in road prediction using OSM data but also in improvement of traditional MLR model

A Catalyst for Learning or Reinforcement of Inequities: Using a Critical Hope Lens to Understand the Potential and Limitations of Short-Term Study Abroad in Fostering Students’ Ability to Effectively Interact Across Differences

    Get PDF
Study abroad is often hailed as a unique and important learning experience that fosters students’ ability to engage in effective and appropriate interactions in a variety of cultural contexts. Scholars, however, have not only questioned the learning that occurs in study abroad but have also highlighted problematic aspects such as the potential miseducation of participants and harm to host communities, particularly for short-term study abroad (STSA) experiences. Utilizing the lens of critical hope, the purpose of this study was to critically assess the potential of STSA in fostering cross-cultural learning, while also examining its limitations and potential harm. Based on interviews with 18 participants 1 and 2 years after their STSA, we found STSA has the potential to be a catalyst for learning and growth related to the attitudes, knowledge, and skills needed for effective cross-cultural interactions. However, when participants approached STSA with a colonial attitude and failed to connect learning to cross-cultural experiences after STSA, that learning was minimal and STSA reinforced ethnocentric viewpoints. Participants’ race and ethnicity shaped their learning. Black, Indigenous, and People of Color participants who had positive experiences abroad felt inspired by STSA to seek out additional cross-cultural interactions, which led to further growth. The white participants who experienced more growth had passions and interests related to cultural learning prior to STSA and engaged in meaningful cross-cultural experiences after STSA. In our Implications section, we discuss ways to maximize the potential of STSA to foster cross-cultural learning and serve as a catalyst for social change

The comparism of the dark adaptation and plasma retinol level (Vitamin A) was a potentially useful method of studying the basic nature of the aging process in vision. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of age upon the dark adaptation time and plasma retinol level. Dark adaptation time, visual fields and plasma retinol levels were studied in two different age groups of Myanmar subjects (young adults: 18-25 years and middle-aged subjects: 40-60 years) (n=30 each). Dark adaptation time (DAT) was determined by a rapid dark adaptation test adopted from Thornton (1977). Visual field was assessed by manually setting kinetic perimetry. Plasma retinol level was determined by colorimetric method using trifluoroacetic acid (TFA). None of the subjects exhibited subnormal plasma retinol levels. Although the plasma retinol levels of middle-aged subjects were comparable to those of their younger counterparts (66.3 (5.2) µg/dl vs 61.4(8.1) µg/dl) (mean(SD)), the middle-aged subjects had significantly longer DAT (5.7 (1.4) vs 3.6 (1.3) minutes; P<0.05) and significantly greater reduction (P<0.05) in visual fields of both eyes. There was a significant negative correlation (P<0.05) between plasma retinol level and DAT in the middle-aged subjects, but not in young adults. No correlation was found between serum retinol level and visual field reduction in both groups. Even with comparable plasma retinol level, longer DAT and greater reduction of visual field in middle-aged subjects indicated that retinal function might also be affected by the age-related changes in retina.
