    Edutainment for an enhanced learning experience (ELE)

    The paper presents research findings on how effective use of edutainment content can increase learner response. It aims to showcase how learning/instructional material can be made more enticing and conducive for Z-Generation learners in academia. The paper looks at different tools (commercial and free) that can be utilized to create edutainment content and facilitate more creative and effective learning. It also explores the beneficial implications of edutainment from enhancing learner perception and engagement to learner responsiveness and knowledge retention. To measure the effects of edutainment a test case was selected in which students of selected courses were required to complete a weekly survey on their workload for an entire semester. An animated video objectively designed with edutainment at mind was used to deliver instructions on the purpose and importance of completing the survey and made available to students of a particular targeted course. Subsequently, response rate from students was by far the highest for the targeted course who received their instructions through the animated edutainment video when compared to all the other courses for all fourteen weeks of the survey

    Impact of the Novel CoronaviruS (COVID-19) on Frontline PharmacIsts Roles and ServicEs: INSPIRE Worldwide Survey.

    BACKGROUND: Pharmacy has been recognized as a vital healthcare profession during the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary objective of the INSPIRE Worldwide survey was to determine the impact of COVID-19 on pharmacy practice and pharmacists\u27 roles around the world. METHODS: A cross-sectional online questionnaire with pharmacists who provided direct patient care during the pandemic. Participants were recruited through social media, with assistance from national and international pharmacy organizations between March 2021-May 2022. The questionnaire was divided into (1) demographics, (2) pharmacists\u27 roles, (3) communication strategies, and (4) practice challenges. The data were analyzed using SPSS 28, and descriptive statistics were used to report frequencies and percentages. RESULTS: A total of 505 pharmacists practicing in 25 countries participated. The most common role that pharmacists undertook was responding to drug information requests (90%), followed by allaying patients\u27 fears and anxieties about COVID-19 (82.6%), and addressing misinformation about COVID-19 treatments and vaccinations (80.4%). The most common challenges were increased stress levels (84.7%), followed by medication shortages (73.8%), general supply shortages (71.8%), and inadequate staffing (69.2%). CONCLUSIONS: Pharmacists within this study were significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and took on new or adapted roles (e.g., providing COVID-specific information, managing patients\u27 emotions, and educating on public health measures) to meet the needs of their communities. Despite, the significant challenges (e.g., increased stress, supply chain challenges, addressing misinformation, and staffing shortages) faced by pharmacists, they continued to put their patients\u27 needs first and to provide pharmacy services

    Optimal controllers and configurations of 100% PV and energy Storage systems for a microgrid : the case study of a small town in Jordan

    Renewable energy systems such as Photovoltaic (PV) have become one of the best options for supplying electricity at the distribution network level. This is mainly because the PV system is sustainable, environmentally friendly, and is a low-cost form of energy. The intermittent and unpredictable nature of renewable energy sources which leads to a mismatch between the power generation and load demand is the challenge to having 100% renewable power networks. Therefore, an Energy Storage System (ESS) can be a significant solution to overcome these challenges and improve the reliability of the network. In Jordan, the energy sector is facing a number of challenges due to the high energy-import dependency, high energy costs, and the inadequate electrification of rural areas. In this paper, the optimal integration of PV and ESS systems is designed and developed for a distribution network in Jordan. The economic and energy performance of the network and a proposed power network under different optimization algorithms and power network operation scenarios are investigated. Metaheuristic optimization algorithms, namely: Golden Ratio Optimization Method (GROM) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms, are employed to find the optimal configurations and integrated 100% PV and ESS for the microgrid

    Independent measurement of the Hoyle state β\beta feeding from 12B using Gammasphere

    Using an array of high-purity Compton-suppressed germanium detectors, we performed an independent measurement of the β\beta-decay branching ratio from 12B^{12}\mathrm{B} to the second-excited (Hoyle) state in 12C^{12}\mathrm{C}. Our result is 0.64(11)%0.64(11)\%, which is a factor ∼2\sim 2 smaller than the previously established literature value, but is in agreement with another recent measurement. This could indicate that the Hoyle state is more clustered than previously believed. The angular correlation of the Hoyle state γ\gamma cascade has also been measured for the first time. It is consistent with theoretical predictions

    Ingraft chimerism in lung transplantation - a study in a porcine model of obliterative bronchiolitis

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Bronchial epithelium is a target of the alloimmune response in lung transplantation, and intact epithelium may protect allografts from rejection and obliterative bronchiolitis (OB). Herein we study the influence of chimerism on bronchial epithelium and OB development in pigs.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A total of 54 immunosuppressed and unimmunosuppressed bronchial allografts were serially obtained 2-90 days after transplantation. Histology (H&E) was assessed and the fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) method for Y chromosomes using pig-specific DNA-label was used to detect recipient derived cells in graft epithelium and bronchial wall, and donor cell migration to recipient organs. Ingraft chimerism was studied by using male recipients with female donors, whereas donor cell migration to recipient organs was studied using female recipients with male donors.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Early appearance of recipient-derived cells in the airway epithelium appeared predictive of epithelial destruction (<it>R </it>= 0.610 - 0.671 and <it>p </it>< 0.05) and of obliteration of the bronchial lumen (<it>R </it>= 0.698 and <it>p </it>< 0.01). All allografts with preserved epithelium showed epithelial chimerism throughout the follow-up. Antirejection medication did not prevent, but delayed the appearance of Y chromosome positive cells in the epithelium (<it>p </it>< 0.05), or bronchial wall (<it>p </it>< 0.05).</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>In this study we demonstrate that early appearance of Y chromosomes in the airway epithelium predicts features characteristic of OB. Chimerism occurred in all allografts, including those without features of OB. Therefore we suggest that ingraft chimerism may be a mechanism involved in the repair of alloimmune-mediated tissue injury after transplantation.</p

    Study of the Alm 26 (d,p) Al 27 Reaction and the Influence of the Al 26 0+ Isomer on the Destruction of Al 26 in the Galaxy

    The existence of Al26 (t1/2=7.17×105 yr) in the interstellar medium provides a direct confirmation of ongoing nucleosynthesis in the Galaxy. The presence of a low-lying 0+ isomer (Al26m), however, severely complicates the astrophysical calculations. We present for the first time a study of the Al26m(d,p)Al27 reaction using an isomeric Al26 beam. The selectivity of this reaction allowed the study of â.,"=0 transfers to T=1/2, and T=3/2 states in Al27. Mirror symmetry arguments were then used to constrain the Al26m(p,γ)Si27 reaction rate and provide an experimentally determined upper limit of the rate for the destruction of isomeric Al26 via radiative proton capture reactions, which is expected to dominate the destruction path of Al26m in asymptotic giant branch stars, classical novae, and core collapse supernovae
