This research has been carried out based on the Kansei Engineering (KE) and Kano Method. The Kansei Engineering is used to identify and investigate the customer requirement based on the emotional feeling articulated in Semantic Differential word, while Kano Method (KM) is employed to identify the quality attributes of products based on the functional and dysfunctional attributes. Both approaches are integrated to address what the customer requirements of the products characteristics related to the design elements. All of these processes are combined together as the Structural Model of Customer Satisfaction. The first implication of this study offered a structural models of customer satisfaction in the product development that is not limited to the functionality of products only. The model is a new method in the product development where the perception (KE) and stage of satisfaction (KM) is being taken as one on how to measure the customer satisfaction against the products. Also, this a new model propose the conception on how to develop the product based on Kano requirements and Kansei Engineering . In order to know what the customers perceptions and satisfaction levels of the products, this research involved 220 respondents (college students) in Melaka. Through the questionnaires developed using Kano Method and Kansei Engineering towards the pen products as a case study, the results showed that the final design preference is the design no.4 (grip, clip and click elements). This pen represent the best design selected by respondent since the emotion feeling of comfortable value is 4.63. This design also has the significant correlation to the Kano quality attribute no. 5 (0.303, p<0.01) where the clip element is a highest priority in the design development refers to the structural model. Both of the results in Kano model represent as the 'Indifferent'. This study also found that there is a relationship existed between the KE and KM. The result shows us that the perceived attributes or qualities is impacted or influenced against the emotional design or Kansei responses

Oil palm tree (Elaeis guineensis) are widely grown in tropical countries especially in Malaysia. The widespread of Basal Stem Rot disease that caused by the Ganoderma boninense had been the major problem as it hard to be eliminated and takes years to identify the symptoms. Therefore, the main objective of this studies were to identify wild mushroom species that can inhibit the Ganoderma sp. mycelial growth by isolation of fungi that grow in grass, spore and hyphae identification and determining the pathogenicity activity of isolated fungi against Ganoderma boninense by using the dual culture method. The fruiting body of Ganoderma sp. and different type of wild mushroom were collected and cultured in Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). The mycelial, hyphae and spore structure of the wild mushroom culture were identified by observing the fungal staining under the microscope. All three wild mushrooms were named by Wild mushroom 1, 2 and 3 as the species name cannot be identified. A five mm diameter of agar disc was taken from each six day-old PDA culture of Ganoderma sp. and the wild mushroom 1, 2 and 3. The agar disc culture of Ganoderma sp. were placed 4 cm opposite site to each agar disc culture of wild mushroom in fresh potato dextrose agar (PDA) plate. All of the fungus was observed growing for six days to determine the growth inhibition of each wild mushrooms fungus against Ganoderma sp. fungus. The result showed that the wild mushroom 3 have the strong pathogenicity with higher percentage of mycelial growth inhibition against Ganoderma sp

Polymer composite have been subjected to increasing interest, study, and utilization for some decades. The increase in environmental concern rationalize the use of reduce polymeric materials, not only due to their non-biodegradab ility, but also due to their production requires large amounts of oil as raw material which is notor iously not renewable. All these issues induced to look for alternatives. Thus, the interest aris es toward polymer composites filled with natural organic fillers. Composite materials (or composites for short) are engineered materials made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties and which remain separa te and distinct on a macroscopic level within the finished structure. Composite materials made from plan t fibers are receiving a great deal of today attention since they are consider ed an environmentally friendly recourse. Among all reinforcing fibers, natural fibers have gained their importa nce especially for load bearing applications. Natural fiber reinforced polymer composites ar e superior over synthe tic fiber reinforced composites in certain properties like enhanced biodegradability, combustib ility, lightweight, ease of recyclability, etc. These advantages place the na tural fibers composites among high performance composites having economical and environmental advantages, with good physical properties [1]

PrekotAC as a new filter aids material for fabric filter in air filtration system

    Get PDF
Fabric filter has a short life span due to wear and tear influenced by the operating conditions of the system. Treatment of fabric filter using pre-coating material is one of the simplest technique to overcome this problem where it works as a filtration aids that will coat a layer of inert material onto the surface of the fabric. Pre-coating acts as a barrier to block and remove undesired particles from gas stream but allowing a uniform air flow passing through the filter media. The morphology of dust cake that accumulated on the surface of the filter media depends on several properties of the particles such as shape and size. Hence, study presents the characterization of a newly formulated filtration aids known as PrekotAC consisting of a different combination of pre-coating material PreKot™ and activated carbon. The aim is to determine the best combination of PrekotAC admixtures as a filtration aids suitable for a fabric filtration system. Various characteristics of the formulated admixtures such as its particle size distribution, bulk density, moisture content as well as its morphology were investigated and presented in this paper

Entrepreneurial intentions and gender : the case of Malaysia

    Get PDF
[Executive Summary] Studies on entrepreneurial intentions and gender suggest that entrepreneurial intentions are higher amongst men than women. In addition, studies on entrepreneurial intentions tend to focus on students which can be a limitation. In an effort to study entrepreneurial intention, this study sets out to observe if entrepreneurial intentions differed by gender in Malaysia. I have hypothesised that entrepreneurial self-efficacy; role model influence and professional attraction towards entrepreneurship have a positive relationship with entrepreneurial intentions. In addition, this study investigates whether gender has a moderating effect on the relationship between the variables of entrepreneurial self-efficacy, role model influence and professional attraction and entrepreneurial intentions. Based on 159 adult samples, the findings suggest that there are gender differences in entrepreneurial intentions. Professional attraction was also found to have a significant correlation with entrepreneurial intentions amongst the variables. In addition, it was found that gender did not moderate the effects of entrepreneurial self-efficacy, role model influence and professional attraction on entrepreneurial intentions. Both theoretical and practical implications are discussed in this thesis
