Perceptions of Tourist Guides on Employee Empowerment: Behavioral Approach

The aim of this study is to determine the perceptions of tourist guides on employee empowerment in the context of behavioral approach. Employee empowerment practises of travelagency operation department managers were tried to determine in the view of tourist guides. In this frame, a questionnaire was developed and applied totourist guides who worked as a guide actively in the English language. Data, obtained between 2014 and 2015, was analyzed by using the SPSS statistical program. In this frame reliability analysis and factor analysis were used. Also independent samples t test and ANOVA test were used in order to determine whether there was a siginificant differences between independent variables and scale items. According to the results tourist guides had positive perceptions about employee empowerment practices. Operation managers were mostly applied employee empowerment about communication, giving responsibility and applying personal capabilities to work. Congratulating successes, giving knowledge and education and encouraging had the lowest mean scores according to tourist guides. In addition, it was determined in the study that there was a significant difference between ge nders, ages and working years in terms of employee empowerment. Turist Rehberlerine Yönelik Turist Nezaketsizliği ve Rehberlerin Nezaketsiz Davranışlara İlişkin Tepkileri

Bu çalışmada, turistlerin turist rehberlerine yönelik sergiledikleri nezaketsiz davranışların belirlenmesi ve rehberlerin bu davranışlar karşısında nasıl hissettiklerinin ve gösterdikleri tepkilerin neler olduğunun ortaya çıkarılması amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırmanın amacı doğrultusunda verilerin elde edilmesi için nitel araştırma yaklaşımı tercih edilmiştir. Veri toplama aracı olarak yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu hazırlanmıştır. Telefon ile görüşmeler yapılarak toplanan veriler, tematik analize tabi tutularak önce kodlanmış, ardından belirli temalar altında kategorize edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, turist rehberlerinin en fazla karşılaştıkları nezaketsiz davranışların “rehberi satın almış gibi davranmak”, “uyarıları dikkate almamak” ve “anlatılanları dinlememek” olduğu ve rehberlerin bu nezaketsiz davranışlar karşısında çoğunlukla “sinir bozukluğu”, “moral bozukluğu”, “öfke” ve “üzüntü” hissettikleri belirlenmiştir. Turist rehberlerinin nezaketsiz davranışlara yönelik turistlere gösterdikleri tepkileri içerisinde en sık tekrarlananların “nazikçe uyarmak”, “sert bir dille uyarmak” ve “umursamamak” olduğu ve bu tepkiler doğrultusunda turistlerde görülen davranış değişikliğinin ise çoğunlukla “aynı davranışa devam etmek”, “kabahatini anlayıp özenli davranmak” ve “hatasının farkına varıp özür dilemek” yönünde olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca, turist nezaketsizliğinin grup uyumuna ve tur akışına yönelik etkilerinin çoğunlukla “rehberinin modunun düşmesi”, “grup üyelerinin moralinin bozulması” ve “grup üyelerinin bu kişilere tepki göstermesi” şeklinde olduğu belirlenmiştir

Undergraduate students and academicians' views on internship process in tourism education (A research in BTIOYO)Lisans düzeyinde turizm eğitimindeki staj uygulamasına öğrenci ve akademisyenlerin bakışları (BTİOYO'da uygulama)

Abstact Internship is one of the significant factors that play an important role in tourism education. Internship can give an opportunity to students to transfer theoretical knowledge into practice since practicing opportunity is limited at schools. In addition, internship provides students enhancing a broader view of tourism sector and adapting tourism establishments. For these reasons, internship is essential part of tourism education.This study aimed to determine both undergraduate students and academicians' views on internship process. In order to reach the aim, Balikesir University School of Tourism and Hotel Management was chosen as a research area.It was determined from the study that both students and academicians stated that internship was important and essential in tourism education. However, they mentioned that students could face some problems in sector during their internship period because tourism managers did not realize the importance of interns.  Özet Turizm eğitiminin başarısında rol oynayan önemli faktörlerden biri staj uygulamalarıdır. Okullarda uygulama imkânının sınırlı olmasından dolayı staj uygulamaları, öğrencilerin öğrendikleri teorik bilgileri pratiğe aktarmalarına yardımcı olmaktadır. Bunun yanı sıra stajlar öğrencilere turizm sektörünü daha iyi anlamalarını ve turizm işletmelerine adaptasyonunu sağlamaktadır.  Bu çalışma, hem lisans düzeyinde turizm eğitimi alan öğrencilerin hem de görev yapan akademisyenlerin staj uygulamalarına yönelik bakış açılarını tespit etmeyi amaçlamıştır. Bu amacı gerçekleştirmek için Balıkesir Üniversitesi Turizm İşletmeciliği ve Otelcilik Yüksekokulu araştırma alanı olarak seçilmiştir.Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin ve akademisyenlerin, turizm eğitimi açısından stajı önemli buldukları belirlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte işletme yöneticilerinin stajyerlerin önemini algılayamamaları nedeniyle öğrencilerin bazı problemlerle karşılaştıklarını ifade etmişlerdir

Quantum erasure with causally disconnected choice

The counterintuitive features of quantum physics challenge many common-sense assumptions. In an interferometric quantum eraser experiment, one can actively choose whether or not to erase which-path information, a particle feature, of one quantum system and thus observe its wave feature via interference or not by performing a suitable measurement on a distant quantum system entangled with it. In all experiments performed to date, this choice took place either in the past or, in some delayed-choice arrangements, in the future of the interference. Thus in principle, physical communications between choice and interference were not excluded. Here we report a quantum eraser experiment, in which by enforcing Einstein locality no such communication is possible. This is achieved by independent active choices, which are space-like separated from the interference. Our setup employs hybrid path-polarization entangled photon pairs which are distributed over an optical fiber link of 55 m in one experiment, or over a free-space link of 144 km in another. No naive realistic picture is compatible with our results because whether a quantum could be seen as showing particle- or wave-like behavior would depend on a causally disconnected choice. It is therefore suggestive to abandon such pictures altogether

A high-speed tunable beam splitter for feed-forward photonic quantum information processing

We realize quantum gates for path qubits with a high-speed, polarization-independent and tunable beam splitter. Two electro-optical modulators act in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer as high-speed phase shifters and rapidly tune its splitting ratio. We test its performance with heralded single photons, observing a polarization-independent interference contrast above 95%. The switching time is about 5.6 ns, and a maximal repetition rate is 2.5 MHz. We demonstrate tunable feed-forward operations of a single-qubit gate of path-encoded qubits and a two-qubit gate via measurement-induced interaction between two photons
