The evolution of negotiation and impasse in two-party multi-issue bargaining
Automated negotiation systems are becoming increasingly important and pervasive. Most previous research on automated negotiation has focused on understanding and formalizing “successful” negotiations, i.e., negotiations that do not become contentious to the point of impasse. This paper shifts the emphasis to negotiations that are “difficult” to resolve and can hit an impasse. It analyses a situation where two agents bargain over the division of the surplus of several distinct issues to demonstrate how a procedure to avoid impasses can be utilized in a specific negotiation setting. The procedure is based on the addition of new issues to the agenda during the course of negotiation and the exploration of the differences in the valuation of these issues to capitalize on Pareto optimal agreements. This paper also lays the foundation for performing an experiment to investigate how the evolution of negotiation contributes to the avoidance of impasses, paying particular attention to the expansion of the number of issues to be deliberated and its impact on the frequency of impasse
Interdisciplinary approach to automated negotiation: a preliminary report
Autonomous agents with negotiation competence are becoming increasingly important and pervasive. This paper follows an interdisciplinary approach to build autonomous negotiating agents by considering both game-theoretic techniques and bargaining procedures from the social sciences. The paper presents a generic model that handles bilateral multi-issue negotiation, describes equilibrium strategies for the bargaining game of alternating offers, and formalizes important strategies used by human negotiators. Autonomous agents equipped with the model are able to negotiate under both complete and incomplete information, thereby making them very compelling for automated negotiation

Towards an interdisciplinary framework for automated negotiation
Negotiation is an important and pervasive form of social interaction. The design of autonomous negotiating agents involves the consideration of insights from multiple relevant research areas to integrate different perspectives on negotiation. As a starting point for an interdisciplinary research effort, this paper presents a model that handles bilateral multi-issue negotiation, employs game-theoretic techniques to define equilibrium strategies for the bargaining game of alternating offers, and formalizes a set of negotiation strategies and tactics studied in the social sciences. Autonomous agents equipped with the model are currently being developed using the Jade framework. The agents are able to negotiate under both complete and incomplete information, thereby making the model in particular and the agents in general very compelling for automated negotiatio
A survey on the semi supervised learning paradigm in the context of speech emotion recognition
The area of Automatic Speech Emotion Recognition has been a hot topic for researchers for quite some time now. The recent breakthroughs on technology in the field of Machine Learning open up doors for multiple approaches of many kinds. However, some concerns have been persistent throughout the years where we highlight the design and collection of data. Proper annotation of data can be quite expensive and sometimes not even viable, as specialists are often needed for such a complex task as emotion recognition. The evolution of the semi supervised learning paradigm tries to drag down the high dependency on labelled data, potentially facilitating the design of a proper pipeline of tasks, single or multi modal, towards the final objective of the recognition of the human emotional mental state. In this paper, a review of the current single modal (audio) Semi Supervised Learning state of art is explored as a possible solution to the bottlenecking issues mentioned, as a way of helping and guiding future researchers when getting to the planning phase of such task, where many positive aspects from each piece of work can be drawn and combined. This work has been supported by FCT - Fundação para a Ciencia e Tecnologia within the R&D Units Project Scope: UIDB/00319/202
This article interpretes the 1785 'Alvara' by which Portugal forbade the manufacturing of textiles in Brazil. Only by exploring at the same time the internal logic of the document (its incoherences and theoretical contradictions) and its historical context is possible to understand its motives and meanings
as calças.
estabilidade dimensional, a irregularidade, as imperfeições e a pilosidade.
Garment dye is widely used in textile industry and known to be a more economical process than
the traditional one of producing garments where the different components are selected before
sewing (sewing thread, fabric, zippers, etc.). Most garment collections have pieces produced by
this process, particularly trousers. Simultaneously, garment dye provides a high level of flexibility
regarding colors, with great benefits and reduced management costs. However, garment dye,
finishing process and the use of clothing, negatively influence the cotton sewing thread, producing
open and damaged seams with substantial losses in seam quality.
This research refers to the development of corespun sewing threads to be applied in the
production of garments that will be subjected to the garment dye process. It is intended, with these
new sewing threads, when compared with traditional mercerized, gazed and combed cotton sewing
threads, to obtain an equal or better performance during the sewing process and improve the
seam quality. Thus, by studying the relationship of sewing thread properties and the sewing
process, it is intended to know the factors that influence sewability and how the sewing process
influences the sewing thread properties. Furthermore, it is also intended to study the seam
efficiency and the seam elongation to know the seam quality produced by the different types of
sewing threads. Aims to obtain a similar dye affinity but without changing the garment dye process.
For this purpose was applied in the core of the corespun sewing thread, lyocell filaments previously
covered with cotton fibers, with the objective of hiding possible noticeable differences of the lyocell
dye affinity.
This work begins with the definition of sewing threads covering up their main structures,
materials and applications. It is held a brief presentation of the garment dye process, emphasizing
the sewing threads used in the process. After this, it is presented the parameters for assessing the
seam quality and the factors that influence it.
The filaments used in core are single and twisted, wrapped in order to get a linear density of 30
Ne, producing a single corespun yarn with a core of lyocell filaments covered with cotton fibers.
Later, they were twisted on two and three plies producing a sewing thread with linear density of 30/2 Ne and 30/3 Ne. These new sewing threads consists of 70% lyocell filaments as core of
sewing thread and 30% cotton fibers as a coating.
The developed sewing threads were characterized and their properties compared with the
properties of cotton sewing threads with similar linear density, and currently the most applied in
the apparel industry for garment dye process. This analogy aims to assess their performance and
their potential for replacement of cotton sewing threads. The physical properties were evaluated,
like the linear density, twist, diameter, dimensional stability, unevenness, imperfections and
hairiness. The mechanical properties were also characterized, like single-end breaking strength and
breaking elongation, tenacity and abrasion resistance. The wet properties were characterized and
also the mechanical properties in loop geometry in order to predict its behavior in seam. To assess
the single-end breaking strength and breaking elongation reduction, the mechanical properties of
different sewing threads before and after sewing process were evaluated and compared. To
evaluate its performance during the sewing process, the different sewing threads were lubricated
and evaluated the tensions generated in the needle thread. To estimate the seam quality, the seam
efficiency and seam elongation were characterized. Finally, tests were conducted to characterize
the dye affinity of the different sewing threads. The developed sewing threads when compared with cotton sewing threads presented similar
results during the sewing process, but with a greater loss of mechanical properties after the sewing
process. The values of seam efficiency and seam elongation are lower, thereby obtaining a lower
seam quality. Not being possible to use lyocell filaments with distinct wood pulp and with different
linear densities, it was not possible to investigate alternatives to overcome this disadvantage. The
dye affinity of the sewing threads developed in this study presented a color more similar to the
fabric (cotton), because the covering fibers and the fabric are made of non-mercerized cotton
fibers. However the color presented by cotton sewing threads is darker, because they are made of
mercerized cotton fibers
