Previous studies indicated that information and communication technology (ICT) positively impacts communities. However, rural areas are not uniform and territorial inequalities in digital infrastructure may affect the lives in rural areas differently. This study aims to investigate the effect of ICT adoption on rural communities. Data were collected through interviews and observations and were analyzed qualitatively. The finding shows limited access to ICT infrastructure and services limits the benefits of ICT to rural communities. The role of government is important in ensuring equal opportunity to access ICT infrastructure and services to improve their quality of life. The Internet technology and pervasive computing has provided consumers with privileges to shop online. In addition, the Industry 4.0 agenda has placed the business web and the social web as the ecosystem domains, which explains why online shopping is a norm today. While many studies have been conducted to investigate the determinants of consumers’ intention to use online shopping, mixed results are always found, especially when the business take unique approaches for their digital presence. Besides, even though self-efficacy has been studied extensively in information system research, technological complexity has always given a challenge to consumers’ computing ability. Building on the Use and Gratification Theory (GTA) and the Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), this study aims to examine the relationships between entertainment gratification, informative gratification, web irritation and self-efficacy towards individual’s intention to use online shopping. Using the quantitative survey approach, data was collected from 217 young executives who are frequent online shoppers. The results of the structural equation modeling suggest entertainment gratification, informative gratification and self-efficacy are the factors that derive consumers’ intention to shop online. On the other hand, web irritation has no significant relationship with online shopping intention. The findings do not only capture the importance for web retailers to provide adequate buying-selling information and to provide the element of fun to the shopping portals, but it also suggests for the web retailers to provide less complicated online shopping features since consumers’ ability to use the technology determines purchase behavior. The findings serve as future research agenda

This paper examines festivalgoers' risk-taking behaviour, focusing on a Malaysian music festival. A qualitative methodology based on in-depth interviews with 15 music festival-goers. The respondents' risk-taking behaviour was examined using DOSPERT, including financial, health and safety, recreation, ethical, and social domains. The findings show that the previous music festival's risks did not affect festivalgoers' motivation to attend. A significant impact on government, organiser, and society. Respondents offered some guidelines for organising a music festival. Since very few papers examine the prospect of risk in music festivals, the adoption of DOSPERT provides much-needed rich and credible data. Sustainable business events demand the commitment of event practitioners. Information technology is used in mitigating the process of sustainable business events. Thus, the aim of this study is to explore the role of information technology in the process of organizing a business event as it was found that there is lack of knowledge on how to organize a sustainable business event in the Malaysian context. It was found that using information technology assists the process of organizing an event through the use of several technological devices and reducing the use of paper. For this reason, inductive methods with 14 informants were studied involving company directors, event managers, venue providers, event delegates and event suppliers. It was found that the role of information technology is important to mitigate the process of organizing a business event. Triangulation was used to ensure the reliability of the findings and members’ check and interview protocols were used for validation purposes. The constant comparison on method of analysis was used to analyze information that result from semi-structured interview. Assessing Event Volunteer Motivational Factors and Quality of Life among University Students

    Get PDF
Volunteerism is a selfless and altruistic act of individuals dedicating their time, skills, and resources to support various causes and organizations without financial compensation. Hence, this paper aims to propose a conceptual framework for event volunteer motivation among university students and its impact on quality of life. Motivational factors measured by the volunteer motivational scale were proposed as independent variables, and quality of life as the dependent variable.  This variable will regress to identify the relationship between quality of life among university students. The motivation to engage in volunteer work significantly impacts an individual's quality of life. However, few studies have been conducted on the impact of volunteering activities on quality of life. Therefore, this study aims to develop a quality of life framework by considering event volunteer’s motivation as independent variables. This study will take place at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Puncak Alam Campus whereby students from this university who already experience becoming volunteers will be involved as respondents. It is hoped that the contingency model of sports event volunteer motivation that is developed through this study will contribute to a better understanding of volunteerism and quality of life among students in higher institutions. Encouraging volunteering activities will educate youths to become responsible citizens by practicing a positive quality of life

    Get PDF
This study examines the antecedents of destination loyalty and its relation to destination image (cultural image, environmental image, and socio-economic image), brand image and awareness and destination satisfaction in island destinations. This study raises important questions concerning how cultural image, environmental image, socioeconomic image, destination brand image, destination brand awareness and destination satisfaction affect destination loyalty. This research attempts to identify (1) the effect of Destination Image on Tourist Satisfaction and (2) To examine the effect of Destination Image towards Destination Loyalty. The study empirically tests the predicted relationship by using a survey of 147 local tourists after the moving control order ended in Malaysia.  Data were collected by a physical survey of 147 local tourists. The data were modeled with partial least squares structural equation modeling. Based on 147 valid responses processed with Smart PLS software, the results confirm most of the research hypotheses. The study reveals that destination brand awareness, environmental image, and environmental knowledge affect tourists at Tuba Island. However, the socioeconomic image doesn't significantly impact tourism satisfaction. Additionally, destination brand, destination image, and environmental image contribute to tourist loyalty at Tuba Island, with loyalty not being the main factor driving satisfaction or loyalty to the island. The findings are useful for all stakeholders of tourism development in Langkawi and Tuba Island, Malaysi
