The Association of Foreign PHI on AME & Death

    Get PDF
Background: Recent data shows at least 1.5 million people are affected by adverse medication events (AME) every year. The purpose of this study is to see if increased use of FPHI is associated with lower instances of AME’s and lower mortality rates for hospitals. Methods: Using a retrospective analysis and logistic regression, this study examines the relationship between IT use and quality. Specific metrics include AMEs and mortality rates in hospitals in the United States. Demographic data are used to control for confounders, CPT, DRG, and AHRQ questions are used as classifying variables for High IT utilization. Results: Unadjusted rates of AME’s were higher among high-IT hospitals than non-high-It hospitals (27.8% vs. 15.8%; p Conclusions: There is a clear association between the increased use of FPHI and lower adverse medication events (AME) rates. Studies have shown that of all the AME’s yearly 50% are preventable and the finding presented here show that high use of FPHI could potentially lower the odds of an AME by 36%. Given these findings, hospitals may want to consider incentivizing the utilization of FPHI in their Eds

The Impact of the Safeguard Anti-Ballistic Missile System Construction on Northeastern North Dakota

Federal defense projects have let to rapid population changes in many communities. These communities often have experienced rapid growth during the construction and installation phase, followed by a population decrease when the project became operational and labor requirements declined. Large industrial construction projects (e.g., construction of coal conversion plants) may confront other communities with similar adjustment problems.Community/Rural/Urban Development,

The Investment/Replacement Way to Find the Value of a Shelterbelt/Windbreak

    Get PDF
This publication provides information on assessing the value of tree plantings. It presents a valuation method based on the cost of replacement. Worksheets and instructions showing the step-by-step procedure for determining tree values of each species at any point in its life, in any part of the state, and under most existing conditions are included

GaAs solar cells for laser power beaming

    Get PDF
Efforts to develop GaAs solar cells for coupling to laser beams in the wavelength range of 800 to 840 nm are described. This work was motivated primarily by interests in space-tp-space power beaming applications. In particular, the Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratories is conducting studies of the utilization of power beaming for several future space missions. Modeling calculations of GaAs cell performance were carried out using PC-1D to determine an appropriate design for a p/n cell structure. Epitaxial wafers were grown by MOCVD and cells fabricated at WSU Tri-Cities. Under simulated conditions, an efficiency of 53 percent was achieved for a cell coupled to 806 nm light at 400 mW/sq cm

Transparency, Translucence of Opacity? A Field Investigation of The Mediating Role of Positive Emotions In Trustful Leader-Follower Relations

    Get PDF
In this study, the relationship between transparency and trust is hypothesized and investigated. Furthermore, the positive emotions variable was hypothesized to mediate the transparency trust relationship. Participants’ perceptions of a leader’s transparency were more predictive of trust than experimenter designed manipulations. Study limitations, implications for management, and future research directions are discussed
