Organizational impact of evidence-informed decision making training initiatives : a case study comparison of two approaches
Background
The impact of efforts by healthcare organizations to enhance the use of evidence to improve organizational processes through training programs has seldom been assessed. We therefore endeavored to assess whether and how the training of mid- and senior-level healthcare managers could lead to organizational change.
Methods
We conducted a theory-driven evaluation of the organizational impact of healthcare leadersâ participation in two training programs using a logic model based on Nonakaâs theory of knowledge conversion. We analyzed six case studies nested within the two programs using three embedded units of analysis (individual, group and organization). Interviews were conducted during intensive one-week data collection site visits. A total of 84 people were interviewed.
Results
We found that the impact of training could primarily be felt in traineesâ immediate work environments. The conversion of attitudes was found to be easier to achieve than the conversion of skills. Our results show that, although socialization and externalization were common in all cases, a lack of combination impeded the conversion of skills. We also identified several individual, organizational and program design factors that facilitated and/or impeded the dissemination of the attitudes and skills gained by trainees to other organizational members.
Conclusions
Our theory-driven evaluation showed that factors before, during and after training can influence the extent of skills and knowledge transfer. Our evaluation went further than previous research by revealing the influenceâboth positive and negativeâof specific organizational factors on extending the impact of training programs

Business intelligence and contribution of entrepreneurial information architecture
We are witnessing the need for a quick and intelligent reaction from organizations to the level and speed of change in business processes. The arising problems can be: from wrong lasting information; systems not fully
used or explored; slow reaction to change; etc. This requires two main confluent action methods: people to synchronize their visions, ideas and strategies in the whole organization; and, in that context, select the information that strictly answers to the performance factors at the right moment. proposed methodology turns to the potential of approach to the entrepreneurial architecture as well as to the potential of the information system in order to integrate the data and resources needed for that performance. Cilia at the node of mouse embryos sense fluid flow for left-right determination via Pkd2
Unidirectional fluid flow plays an essential role in the breaking of left-right (L-R) symmetry in mouse embryos, but it has remained unclear how the flow is sensed by the embryo. We report that the Ca2+ channel Polycystin-2 (Pkd2) is required specifically in the perinodal crown cells for sensing the nodal flow. Examination of mutant forms of Pkd2 shows that the ciliary localization of Pkd2 is essential for correct L-R patterning. Whereas Kif3a mutant embryos, which lack all cilia, failed to respond to an artificial flow, restoration of primary cilia in crown cells rescued the response to the flow. A Calculation of Baryon Diffusion Constant in Hot and Dense Hadronic Matter Based on an Event Generator URASiMA
We evaluate thermodynamical quantities and transport coefficients of a dense
and hot hadronic matter based on an event generator URASiMA (Ultra-Relativistic
AA collision Simulator based on Multiple Scattering Algorithm). The statistical
ensembles in equilibrium with fixed temperature and chemical potential are
generated by imposing periodic boundary condition to the simulation of URASiMA,
where energy density and baryon number density is conserved. Achievement of the
thermal equilibrium and the chemical equilibrium are confirmed by the common
value of slope parameter in the energy distributions and the saturation of the
numbers of contained particles, respectively. By using the generated ensembles,
we investigate the temperature dependence and the chemical potential dependence
of the baryon diffusion constant of a dense and hot hadronic matter.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures, LaTeX2
1+1 Dimensional Hydrodynamics for High-energy Heavy-ion Collisions
A 1+1 dimensional hydrodynamical model in the light-cone coordinates is used
to describe central heavy-ion collisions at ultrarelativistic bombarding
energies. Deviations from Bjorken's scaling are taken into account by choosing
finite-size profiles for the initial energy density. The sensitivity of fluid
dynamical evolution to the equation of state and the parameters of initial
state is investigated. Experimental constraints on the total energy of produced
particles are used to reduce the number of model parameters. Spectra of
secondary particles are calculated assuming that the transition from the
hydrodynamical stage to the collisionless expansion of matter occurs at a
certain freeze-out temperature. An important role of resonances in the
formation of observed hadronic spectra is demonstrated. The calculated rapidity
distributions of pions, kaons and antiprotons in central Au+Au collisions at
the c.m. energy 200 GeV per NN pair are compared with experimental data of the
BRAHMS Collaboration. Parameters of the initial state are reconstructed for
different choices of the equation of state. The best fit of these data is
obtained for a soft equation of state and Gaussian-like initial profiles of the
energy density, intermediate between the Landau and Bjorken limits.Comment: 43 pages, 27 figure
White Lines and 3d-Occupancy for the 3d Transition-Metal Oxides
Electron energy-loss spectrometry was employed to measure the white lines at
the L23 absorption edges of the 3d transition-metal oxides and lithium
transition-metal oxides. The white-line ratio (L3/L2) was found to increase
between d^0 and d^5 and decrease between d^5 and d^10, consistent with previous
results for the transition metals and their oxides. The intensities of the
white lines, normalized to the post-edge background, are linear for the 3d
transition-metal oxides and lithium transition-metal oxides. An empirical
correlation between normalized white-line intensity and 3d occupancy is
established. It provides a method for measuring changes in the 3d-state
occupancy. As an example, this empirical relationship is used to measure
changes in the transition-metal valences of Li_{1-x}Ni_{0.8}Co_{0.2}O_2 in the
range of 0 < x < 0.64. In these experiments the 3d occupancy of the nickel ion
decreased upon lithium deintercalation, while the cobalt valence remained

A comparative study of Jet-quenching Schemes
The four major approximation schemes devised to study the modification of
jets in dense matter are outlined. The comparisons are restricted to basic
assumptions and approximations made in each case and the calculation
methodology used. Emergent underlying similarities between apparently disparate
methods brought about by the approximation schemes are exposed.
Parameterizations of the medium in each scheme are discussed in terms of the
transport coefficient . Discrepancies between the estimates obtained
from the four schemes are discussed. Recent developments in the basic theory

Anisotropic spin-density distribution and magnetic anisotropy of strained LaSrMnO thin films: Angle-dependent x-ray magnetic circular dichroism
Magnetic anisotropies of ferromagnetic thin films are induced by epitaxial
strain from the substrate via strain-induced anisotropy in the orbital magnetic
moment and that in the spatial distribution of spin-polarized electrons.
However, the preferential orbital occupation in ferromagnetic metallic
LaSrMnO (LSMO) thin films studied by x-ray linear dichroism
(XLD) has always been found out-of-plane for both tensile and compressive
epitaxial strain and hence irrespective of the magnetic anisotropy. In order to
resolve this mystery, we directly probed the preferential orbital occupation of
spin-polarized electrons in LSMO thin films under strain by angle-dependent
x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). Anisotropy of the spin-density
distribution was found to be in-plane for the tensile strain and out-of-plane
for the compressive strain, consistent with the observed magnetic anisotropy.
The ubiquitous out-of-plane preferential orbital occupation seen by XLD is
attributed to the occupation of both spin-up and spin-down out-of-plane
orbitals in the surface magnetic dead layer.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figure
