Excitation of Rydberg States in Rubidium with Near Infrared Diode Lasers
A system of three external cavity diode lasers is used to excite Rydberg states in rubidium. The 5S -\u3e 5P -\u3e 5D transitions are driven using lasers with lambda = 780 and 776 nm respectively. From the 5D state, atoms fluoresce down to the 6P state. The final transition to Rydberg levels is from the 6P state with laser light near lambda = 1016 nm. The nS and nD Rydberg states are accessible directly and with the application of a modest electric field nP states can also be excited. As a test of this system, Stark spectra are collected for nD and nP states. (C) 2011 Optical Society of Americ

Analyses of Generic Dairy Advertising, 1984-97
Generic advertising raised fluid milk sales about 6.0 percent, or 18.1 billion pounds, between September 1984 and September 1997. Sales of cheese rose by about 6.8 billion pounds (milk equivalent) in the same period because of increased generic advertising. An assessment of 15 cents per hundredweight of milk sold commercially, mandated by the Dairy and Tobacco Adjustment Act of 1983, funded the advertising. Activities of the National Fluid Milk Processor Promotion Board also contributed to increased milk sales over the past year. Gross returns to dairy farmers between September 1984 and September 1997 were estimated to increase by $3.44 for each dollar spent on generic advertising.cheese, fluid milk, advertising, demand, entry, exit, distributed lag, econometrics, simulation, elasticities, Milk Processor Education Program, Livestock Production/Industries, Marketing,
Imaging the dipole-dipole energy exchange between ultracold rubidium Rydberg atoms
The long-range, anisotropic nature of the interaction among atoms in an ultracold dipolar gas leads to a rich array of possibilities for studying many-body physics. In this work, an ultracold gas of highly excited atoms is used to study energy transport due to the long-range dipole-dipole interaction. A technique is developed to measure both the internal energy states of the interacting Rydberg atoms and their positions in space. This technique is demonstrated by observing energy exchange between two spatially separated groups of Rydberg atoms excited to two different internal states. Simulations confirm the general features of the energy transport in this system and highlight subtleties associated with the homogeneity of the electric field used in this experiment
A minimum income standard for rural households
This study extends the MIS UK research to consider what rural households need to afford the same standard of living as their urban counterparts. It examines:
what different rural households need to meet the minimum income standard in comparison with urban households;
how meeting needs in key areas of expenditure, such as transport and fuel, differs significantly in different types of location; and
how much income people in rural areas therefore require in order to afford a minimum socially acceptable standard of living
Impact of Agricultural Policies on Agripreneurship Development in Nasarawa State
This study examined the influence of agricultural policy on agripreneurship development in Nasarawa state. The study adopted survey design. The population of the study consists of 2076 agripreneurship managers operating their businesses within Nasarawa State area. The study objectives are to ascertain how specific agricultural policies and programmes have affected food security, poverty reduction and employment generation. Taro Yamane’s sampling technique was used to derived the sample size of 335. Simple linear regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses formulated for the study. The findings revealed that agricultural policy has a significant effect on employment generation, (f- test 96.749 and p-value p of 0 .000), agricultural policy also has a significant effect on poverty alleviation (f-test 200,756 and p-value of 0.000) and moreover, agricultural policy has a significant effect on food security (f-test 86.568 and p-value of 0,000) in Nasarawa state. The study concludes that agripreneurship policy has a positive and significant effect on agripreneurship development in Nasarawa State. The study therefore, recommends that farmers should be encouraged to establish safe storage facilities as it is very important for food security, as it as well help to stabilize food price. There is also need to increase agricultural production, preservation of unused produce or unsold items are equally as important to cutting waste
