Porto Alegre is divided in eight Boroughs of Planning. Each Borough has a representative in the Urban Planning City Council (UPCC). In 2018 social movements organized to conquer this. From this, some of the Boroughs’ councilors felt the need to better inform themselves on the terms and subjects discussed in the UPCC, and to ensure that their local issues would be discussed. For that manner, the People’s Borough Plan of Action (PBPA) project was created by a coalition of social movements, the architect’s association (IAB-RS) and the university to perform counter-hegemonic actions. The project is based on the insurgent planning theory, which understands urban development from the standpoint of the global south as being essentially performed by communities, activists and grassroots strategies. Thus, the project moves across both invited and invented spaces of action in a non-binary relationship, with the aim of providing the grassroots movements of insurgent citizenship with technical assistance to support their claims and desires over the city they live. Regarding the City’s Master Plan revision, the PBAP represents a counter-plan related to the creation of differential spaces. Therefore, they create a moment of realization of the right to the city

This article reports and discusses the results of the academic extension project “Emerging urban practices”, which took place in 2018 in the city of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. In field trips and workshops, professors and undergraduate and graduate students interacted with different people, groups, collectives, and social movements promoting new urban practices in three experiences: Arvor(e)ser farm, Vila Nazaré settlement, and Blue Plate Special on the Streets. The academic extension concept of this project was that the public university should establish closer ties with the society to better understand the urban reality where the institution is inserted, to go beyond its walls in order to impregnate itself with the problems, demands and characteristics that are not part of its daily life. Extension can, by acting in this way, trigger topics and research problems

Práticas Urbanas Emergentes: a Universidade e a Cidade

Eurytrematosis is a helminthic disease caused by trematodes belonging to the genus Eurytrema spp. that parasitize the pancreas of many animals and humans. This parasitosis causes chronic fibrosing pancreatitis, fat infiltration in the pancreatic parenchyma, besides damaging the exocrine pancreas, which is similar to that found in patients with Diabetes Mellitus type 1 (DM1). The current work aimed to evaluate the use of bovine pancreas infected with E. coelomaticum as a model to study DM1 pathophysiology. It was carried out macroscopic analyses, parasite identification, total pancreatic lipid determination and oxidative damage biomarkers levels of pancreas naturally infected with E. coelomaticum. Macroscopically, we observed that the infected pancreas had duct obstruction, organ stiffness due to the visible presence of fibrosis, increased adipose tissue deposition, increased protein and lipid damage, as well as increased antioxidant biomarkers (GSH, CAT and VIT C). Thus, it is possible to show that DM1 may have pancreatic parasitism as a possible primary origin. However, more studies are needed to better investigate this possible primary origin; the results obtained here suggest that the use of pancreas parasitized by E. coelomaticum could be a model to investigate DM1 pathophysiology
