A bacterial strain isolated from sewage sludge compost, strain SC-083T, was characterized. The isolate was a motile, Gram-positive, short rod, forming coryneform V-shaped cells during the early stages of growth. The organism was strictly aerobic and able to grow between 22 and 36 °C and between pH 5.5 and 8.0. The predominant fatty acids were cyclohexyl-C17 : 0, anteiso-C17 : 0 and iso-C16 : 0, the major respiratory quinones were menaquinone 11 (MK-11) and 12 (MK-12), and the genomic DNA G+C content was 68 mol%. The peptidoglycan contained the diagnostic diamino acids ornithine and 2,4-diaminobutyric acid and was of acetyl type. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that this isolate belongs to the family Microbacteriaceae with the type strains of the species Leifsonia xyli (96 % gene sequence similarity), Leifsonia shinshuensis (96 %), Leifsonia naganoensis (95 %), Leifsonia aquatica (95 %), Agromyces ramosus (95 %) and Curtobacterium citreum (95 %) among the closest phylogenetic neighbours. The phylogenetic analysis and phenetic characteristics support the proposal of a new genus and a novel species, with the name Humibacter albus gen. nov., sp. nov. The type strain of Humibacter albus is SC-083T (=DSM 18994T =CCUG 54538T =LMG 23996T

A bacterial strain, DC-186T, isolated from home-made compost, was characterized for its phenotypic and phylogenetic properties. The isolate was a Gram-negative rod that was able to grow at 15–36 6C and pH 5.5–8.0. Strain DC-186T was positive in tests for catalase, oxidase and b-galactosidase activities and aesculin hydrolysis. The predominant fatty acids were the summed feature C16 : 1/iso-C15 : 0 2-OH (42 %) and iso-C15 : 0 (26 %), the major respiratory quinone was menaquinone-7 and the genomic DNA G+C content was 42 mol%. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis and phenetic characterization indicated that this organism belongs to the phylum Bacteroidetes and revealed its affiliation to the family Sphingobacteriaceae. Of recognized taxa, strain DC-186T was most closely related to Sphingobacterium daejeonense (90% sequence similarity) based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis. The low 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with other recognized taxa and the identification of distinctive phenetic features for this isolate support the definition of a new genus within the family Sphingobacteriaceae. The name Pseudosphingobacterium domesticum gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed, with strain DC-186T (=CCUG 54353T=LMG 23837T) as the type strain

A bacterial strain (E4FC31T) isolated from treated municipal wastewater was characterized phenotypically and phylogenetically. Cells were Gram-negative, curved rods with a polar flagellum. The isolate was catalase-, oxidase- and arginine dihydrolase-positive, and able to grow between 15 and 45 6C and between pH 5.5 and 9.0. The predominant fatty acids were C16 : 1/iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and C16 : 0, the major respiratory quinone was ubiquinone 8 and the G+C content of the genomic DNA was 63 mol%. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strain E4FC31T belonged to the class Betaproteobacteria and was a member of the family Neisseriaceae. Its closest phylogenetic neighbours were Aquitalea magnusonii and Chromobacterium violaceum (<94% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity). Phylogenetic analysis and phenotypic characteristics of strain E4FC31T suggest that it represents a novel species of a new genus, for which the name Gulbenkiania mobilis gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Gulbenkiania mobilis is E4FC31T (=DSM 18507T=LMG 23770T)

Two bacterial strains, PC-142 and PC-147T, isolated from poultry litter compost, were characterized with respect to their phenetic and phylogenetic characteristics. The isolates were endospore-forming rods that were reddish in colour after Gram staining. They were catalaseand oxidase-positive, were able to degrade starch and gelatin and grew at 15–40 6C and pH 5.5–10.0. The predominant fatty acids were anteiso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C16 : 0, the major respiratory quinone was menaquinone MK-7, the cell-wall peptidoglycan was of the A1c type and the G+C content of the DNA was 58 mol%. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis and phenetic characterization indicated that these organisms belong to the genus Paenibacillus, with Paenibacillus pasadenensis SAFN-007T as the closest phylogenetic neighbour (97.5 %). Strains PC-142, PC-147T and P. pasadenensis SAFN-007T represent a novel lineage within the genus Paenibacillus, characterized by a high DNA G+C content (58–63 mol%). The low levels of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity with respect to other taxa with validly published names and the identification of distinctive phenetic features in the two isolates indicate that strains PC-142 and PC-147T represent a novel species of the genus Paenibacillus, for which the name Paenibacillus humicus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is PC-147T (5DSM 18784T 5NBRC 102415T 5LMG 23886T)

After two different validation systolic blood pressure measurement methods (PAS), not invasive or indirect (oscillometric and doppler vascular) with invasive or direct (arterial catheterization - Gold Standard) in 12 anesthetized healthy cats of the same age group, not invasive methods were evaluated and compared in 24 healthy conscious cats, divided into four age groups. In each animal, we proceeded to measure the pressure by Doppler and oscillometric methods. The oscillometric method was the first to be performed, and, shortly thereafter, the doppler method. The values considered were obtained from averages from seven consecutive measurements for each method with an interval of thirty seconds between them. The first measurement and disparate measurements (range ˃ 20% PAS) obtained with obvious signs of stress and / or animal movement were discarded. Methods of oscillometric and doppler measurement, although statistically different averages were shown in all groups when compared, each group showed a significant high positive correlation, meaning that when a high value is obtained by a method, the same occurs with the other method, and vice versa. Clinically, the observed difference is not relevant since the mean difference values obtained by the two methods, in each group was lower than 1.1%
