This paper evaluates several signal processing techniques for optical dual-polarization quadrature phase-shift keying (DP-QPSK) coherent receivers, using offline post-processing of experimental data. In addition to electronically separating the two polarization multiplexed signals, the investigated signal processing algorithms also compensate for chromatic dispersion (CD) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD). In particular, we investigate two distinct architectures: 1)Constant modulus algorithm (CMA) equalization followed by feedforward phase recovery. 2)Decision-directed least mean square (DD-LMS) equalization combined with decision-directed phase recovery. The interplay of both architectures with bulk dispersion compensators and carrier recovery algorithms is also analyzed

PURPOSE To evaluate the use of highly concentrated autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in lamellar macular hole (LMH) surgery with regard to function and morphology. METHODS We included 12 eyes of 12 patients with progressive LMH in this interventional case series. After 23/25-gauge pars plana vitrectomy, 0.1ml highly concentrated autologous platelet-rich plasma was applied under air tamponade. Induction of posterior vitreous detachment and peeling of tractive epiretinal membranes were performed whenever present. Phacovitrectomy was undertaken in cases of phakic lens status. Postoperatively, all patients were instructed to rest in a supine position for the first two postoperative hours. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) testing, microperimetry, spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), and fundus photography were carried out preoperatively and 6 months postoperatively. RESULTS Foveal configuration was restored in 10 of 12 patients (83.3%) at 6 months postoperatively. Two patients who had not undergone ILM peeling showed a recurring defect at 6-month follow-up. Best-corrected visual acuity improved significantly from 0.29 ± 0.08 to 0.14 ± 0.13 logMAR (Wilcoxon: p=0.028). Microperimetry remained unchanged (23.38 ± 2.53 preoperatively; 23.0 ± 2.49 dB postoperatively; p=0.67). No patient experienced vision loss after surgery, and no significant intra- or postoperative complications occurred. CONCLUSION The application of PRP in the surgical therapy of LMH results in good morphological and functional outcomes. Additional peeling of the ILM seems to be mandatory when using PRP to prevent the recurrence of LMH. Strict postoperative supine positioning for 2 h avoids PRP dislocation. Larger sample sizes are needed to confirm the results

Subject of this diploma thesis is a monastery area of the Capuchin order, which was established 1606 in the center of Linz. Since then it has housed ecclesiastical uses, which have shaped the present appearance. In 2016, the monastery and its associated premises were profaned due to an abundance of church buildings and parish structures, as well as a decline in the number of members, and have been empty ever since. In recent months, there has been increasing discussion about the future use and the progress of the area, as the prominent location on the elevated plateau and the good connection to the city centre allow a great potential for urban development. In recent years, various utilisation concepts have been researched and discussed. Based on that and under a previous comprehensive analysis of sacred places, monastic structures and the inventory on site, a project is developed that speaks a clear architectural language, in which the spirituality of the past, with consideration for the values that correspond to the creation of the building structure, remains perceptible and the new utilization concept, adapted to the needs of the modern human being, allows to emerge an overall composition. Special attention will be paid to the interface of church and art, which, in its essence and according to people's understanding, has several points of contact in common. Monastic life needs places of retreat as well as places of community. This need is also the guiding idea for a Sanctuary of the Arts. It must allow individuality and, in parallel, promote the common good.14

Some of the main causes of accidents that involve professional drivers, such as truck and interstate bus conductors, are drowsiness and falling asleep “on the wheel”, caused by fatigue due to excessive work hours and night activity. In a country of a great territorial extension, such as Brazil, with predominantly terrestrial heavy transportation, the reduction of accidents from the mentioned factors would result in great economization of financial resources and life saving. Thus, there is a need for a portable and robust device, which could, in a non-invasive form, monitor the alertness state of the driver. Targeting the general goal of creating a market competitive device, the objective of this work is to configure an embedded system of SBC type (Single Board Computer) to obtain images from a USB camera and execute a pertinent to the purpose real time image processing (face/eye detection). That involves the choice and configuration of the operational system, camera configuration, choice and implementation of the detection algorithm
