    Antitrust Aspects of Transatlantic Investment

In this diploma work a discrete cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (DNLS) is used as a model for the evolution of the electric field in a system of coupled waveguides with nonlinear index of refraction. The DNLS is inferred from Maxwell’s equations by expanding the induced charge polarization in a power series, thereby perturbing a single electromagnetic mode. The properties of the model are then derived form a stationary action principle, of particular interest is the construction of a continuity equation and thereby a power flow J between the sites. For systems with periodic boundary conditions there exist so-called vortex solutions with J circulating over the sites. Numerical experiments in the 6-site system are then carried out to investigate the behavior of the current when a vortex solution is perturbed to see whether this could result in a reversed current (vorticity). When a large perturbation was applied to a vortex solution near the limit of linear stability a "vortex breather" solution with a sinusoidally flowing current was found

Genetic heterogeneity of pseudoxanthoma elasticum: the Chinese signature profile of ABCC6 and ENPP1 mutations.

Pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE), an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by ectopic mineralization, is caused by mutations in the ABCC6 gene. We examined clinically 29 Chinese PXE patients from unrelated families, so far the largest cohort of Asian PXE patients. In a subset of 22 patients, we sequenced ABCC6 and another candidate gene, ENPP1, and conducted pathogenicity analyses for each variant. We identified a total of 17 distinct mutations in ABCC6, 15 of them being, to our knowledge, previously unreported, including 5 frameshift and 10 missense variants. In addition, a missense mutation in combination with a recurrent nonsense mutation in ENPP1 was discovered in a pediatric PXE case. No cases with p.R1141X or del23-29 mutations, common in Caucasian patient populations, were identified. The 10 missense mutations in ABCC6 were expressed in the mouse liver via hydrodynamic tail-vein injections. One mutant protein showed cytoplasmic accumulation indicating abnormal subcellular trafficking, while the other nine mutants showed correct plasma membrane location. These nine mutations were further investigated for their pathogenicity using a recently developed zebrafish mRNA rescue assay. Minimal rescue of the morpholino-induced phenotype was achieved with eight of the nine mutant human ABCC6 mRNAs tested, implying pathogenicity. This study demonstrates that the Chinese PXE population harbors unique ABCC6 mutations. These genetic data have implications for allele-specific therapy currently being developed for PXE

Ökologischer Landbau als eigenständiges Studium - Witzenhausen hat seine wissenschaftliche Ausbildung reformiert

    Get PDF

Transparency in Supply Chains: Is Trust a Limiting Factor?

    Get PDF
Transparency has gained much relevance in food chains. This paper summarizes the determinants of transparency and points out that transparency in the sense of effective information exchange needs trust as a mediator in order to become a powerful tool in supply chain management. In addition to that this paper analyses the characteristics of trust and highlights the reciprocal and dynamic mechanisms of trust on transparency and vice versa. It is argued that both constructs should be enhanced at the same time in order to realize the benefits of trust and transparency on supply chain management.Transparency, trust, power, control, agribusiness, Agribusiness,

Estimates of the likelihood of threats are related to intolerance of uncertainty and learning

    Get PDF
In the present experiment, we assessed the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and expectancy ratings of threats both in the presence of conditioned stimuli (CS) that signalled the delivery of an aversive unconditioned stimulus (US), and after making an avoidance response. Participants learned the relationship between several pictures serving as CSs and an aversive sound serving as the US, and learned to avoid the US through a procedure including alternating pavlovian and negative reinforcement training phases. Expectancy ratings were measured on every training trial. Our results only showed a significant association between intolerance of uncertainty and expectancy ratings made after avoidance responses. This association was found only when the avoidance response was made in the presence of CSs signalling that the aversive sound was avoidable. The increase in intolerance of uncertainty was related to lower expectancy ratings in good learners, and to higher expectancy ratings in bad learners. These results are tentatively explained by invoking a view of intolerance of uncertainty as an exaggerated reaction to uncertainty aimed at learning to avoid threats.Universidad de Málaga.
