This article aims to problematize the micropolitical relationships produced in the Psychosocial Care Center (caps), Alegrete-RS, focusing on ethical principles in relation with customers and teamwork, identifying similarities and differences with the propositions of psychosocial care. This study follows a qualitative, descriptive and analytical approach. Interviews were conducted with users and workers, as well as participant observation. Aspects of subjective mobilization, innovation and the creation of relationships that produce ruptures in institutional practices were found, increasing subjectivation, negotiation, agency, resistance, and invention of various relationship and interaction devices in society, producing existential territories in the psychosocial care perspective. Micropolitical relations serve as agents for the production of meaning and the valorization of knowledges and enhancement of knowledge meaning, featuring an ethical stance regarding relationsEl artículo tiene como objetivo problematizar las relaciones micropolíticas producidas en el Centro de Atención Psicosocial (caps) de Alegrete-RS, enfoncando los principios éticos de las relaciones de los trabajadores con la clientela y en el trabajo en equipo, identificando las aproximaciones y los distanciamientos con las propuestas de atención psicosocial. International Portfolio Allocation under Model Uncertainty

This paper revisits an old argument, hedging real exchange rate risk, as an explanation of the international home bias in equity. In a dynamic model, the relevant risk to be hedged is the long-run risk as opposed to the short-run risk. Domestic equity is indeed a good hedge with respect to long-run real-exchange-rate risk. Two new frameworks are able to explain a large share of the observed US home bias: a model with Hansen-Sargent preferences in which agents fear model misspecification and a model with Epstein-Zin preferences. These two models are also immune to the risk-free rate puzzle. (JEL C58, F31, G11, G15)

Second-order approximation of dynamic models with time-varying risk

This paper provides first and second-order approximation methods for the solution of non-linear dynamic stochastic models in which the exogenous state variables follow conditionally linear stochastic processes displaying time-varying risk. The first-order approximation is consistent with a conditionally linear model in which risk is still time-varying but has no distinct role - separated from the primitive stochastic disturbances - in influencing the endogenous variables. The second-order approximation of the solution, instead, is sufficient to get this role. Moreover, risk premia, evaluated using only a first-order approximation of the solution, will be also time varying

Fiscal shocks and the exchange rate in a generalized Redux model

    No full text
This paper studies how the interaction between the monetary policy regime and the degree of home bias in public consumption affects the Exchange rate response to fiscal shocks in a generalized version of the Redux model of Obstfeld and Rogoff (1995). We show that the joint presence of home bias in public consumption and endogenous monetary policy overturns the results of the Redux model implying an Exchange rate appreciation in response to an expansionary fiscal policy

Trastuzumab Cardiotoxicity: biological hypotheses and clinical open issues.

BACKGROUND: Trastuzumab has significantly improved the prognosis of breast cancer patients overexpressing the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). This result has been achieved in all disease settings, by increasing overall survival in early stage and advanced disease and by increasing pathological complete responses in neoadjuvant disease. OBJECTIVE: Although the greatest impact of this monoclonal antibody has been seen in the adjuvant setting, by increasing disease-free survival and overall survival rates an increased rate of both symptomatic and non-symptomatic cardiac toxicity has also been observed. METHODS: In the following review, the different mechanisms of trastuzumab cardiac toxicity are described and, in addition, the clinical data coming from both trials and meta-analyses is discussed. RESULTS: While there is strong evidence for the incidence of trastuzumab-related cardiac toxicity, there is still little known on the exact pathogenesis of this toxicity. Interestingly, both experimental and clinical data suggest that trastuzumab may sensitize cardiomyocytes to injuries and stress from administration of anthracyclines. This has led to a proposed novel mechanism of cardiotoxicity that appears to be quite different from the anthracycline-associated cardiotoxicity. Trastuzumab does not seem to cause any overt ultrastructural abnormality; it does, however, lead to myocardial dysfunction. CONCLUSION: Most of the proposed hypotheses seems to be related to the activity of trastuzumab in interfering with the ERBB-2 receptor. Indeed, data from clinical trials in the adjuvant setting report increased cardiac toxicity in those patients who previously received anthracyclines

IL12B polymorphism and type 1 diabetes in the Italian population: A case-control study

    No full text
A polymorphism in the interleukin 12B gene was recently reported to be strongly associated with type 1 diabetes in 422 Australian and British families. We analyzed the same polymorphism in 470 Italian type 1 diabetic patients and 544 matched control subjects and found no evidence of association with the disease

Characterization of gene expression induced by RTN-1C in human neuroblastoma cells and in mouse brain

Inactivation of the tumor suppressor p53 is central to carcinogenesis and acquisition of resistance to drug-induced apoptosis. The majority of alterations are missense mutations and occur within the DNA-binding domain. However, little is known about the point mutations in the tetramerization domain (TD). Here we investigated the properties of a new p53 mutant (Lys 351 to Asn) in the TD identified in a cisplatin-resistant ovarian carcinoma cell line (A2780 CIS). We found that K351N substitution significantly reduces the thermodynamic stability of p53 tetramers without affecting the overall half-life of the protein. Moreover, p53 K351N has a reduced ability to bind DNA and to trans-activate its specific target gene promoters, such as bax. Data obtained from the analysis of p53 subcellular localization revealed that K351N mutation inhibits the nuclear export of p53 and accumulation in the cytoplasm induced by cisplatin treatment. These results identify p53 K351N as a new cancer associated mutant with reduced tumor suppressor activity and altered functions in response to apoptotic stimuli
