    Current Problem Gambling Countermeasures and Responsible Gaming Dissemination Issues in Japan

    Activities such as pachinko, pachi-slot and public sports race betting make up Japan’s unique gambling culture. When the “the Gambling Addiction Countermeasures Act” and “the Integrated Resort (IR) Development Act” were passed by the Japanese Diet in July 2018, gambling in Japan has begun the move to a new stage. In preparation of IR developments, there will be measures enacted at the national government level on problem gambling from existing activities, and discussions have started on how to prevent the negative influence created from casinos in the IRs. The problem gaming countermeasures which just started in Japan face many issues in order to catch up with those already established at the global level. In this session, the current problem gambling countermeasures are introduced, and issues facing future countermeasures in problem gambling and the dissemination of responsible gaming are explained

    Applications of the new Remote Sensing Method to the Forest Biomass Estimation

    For accurate measurement of forest biomass in the Akazawa Forest Reserve, this study analyzed texture measures derived from GeoEye-1 satellite data using the individual tree crown (ITC) method. On this basis, canopy area, tree tops and tree species of individual trees were delineated. Canopy area was used to calculate the DBH of trees in canopy layer based on canopy-DBH curve in this stand. In this study, the estimation models, between DBH and height, and between canopy area and DBH were developed by linear regression using forest survey data. Then according to the results of satellite data interpreted the biomass of every tree was calculated by biomass expansion factor (BEF). This method was verified against the survey data from old–growth Chamaecyparis obtusa stand composed of various cover types. For Chamaecyparis obtusa, the accuracy of biomass estimation was higher than 84%. However, the accuracy of Chamaecyparis pisifera was less than 60%, because some Chamaecyparis pisifera trees were misidentified as Chamaecyparis obtusa, and canopy area of Chamaecyparis pisifera was underestimated in the high-density stand. For Thujopsis dolabrata, the accuracy ranged from 22.4 % to 78.9%, and from 63.4% to 84.6% for broad-leaved trees, because many of them were understory. These results indicated that estimation of old-growth forest biomass based on high resolution satellite data, might be validated for estimating biomass at the individual tree level improved by developing and applying forest stratum–specific models with the ITC-survey data as a bridging reference in addition to spectral information.     TRPC6 counteracts TRPC3-Nox2 protein complex leading to attenuation of hyperglycemia-induced heart failure in mice

    Excess production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) caused by hyperglycemia is a major risk factor for heart failure. We previously reported that transient receptor potential canonical 3 (TRPC3) channel mediates pressure overload-induced maladaptive cardiac fibrosis by forming stably functional complex with NADPH oxidase 2 (Nox2). Although TRPC3 has been long suggested to form hetero-multimer channels with TRPC6 and function as diacylglycerol-activated cation channels coordinately, the role of TRPC6 in heart is still obscure. We here demonstrated that deletion of TRPC6 had no impact on pressure overload-induced heart failure despite inhibiting interstitial fibrosis in mice. TRPC6-deficient mouse hearts 1 week after transverse aortic constriction showed comparable increases in fibrotic gene expressions and ROS production but promoted inductions of inflammatory cytokines, compared to wild type hearts. Treatment of TRPC6-deficient mice with streptozotocin caused severe reduction of cardiac contractility with enhancing urinary and cardiac lipid peroxide levels, compared to wild type and TRPC3-deficient mice. Knockdown of TRPC6, but not TRPC3, enhanced basal expression levels of cytokines in rat cardiomyocytes. TRPC6 could interact with Nox2, but the abundance of TRPC6 was inversely correlated with that of Nox2. These results strongly suggest that Nox2 destabilization through disrupting TRPC3-Nox2 complex underlies attenuation of hyperglycemia-induced heart failure by TRPC6.Fil: Oda, Sayaka.     High temperature expansion in supersymmetric matrix quantum mechanics

    We formulate the high temperature expansion in supersymmetric matrix quantum mechanics with 4, 8 and 16 supercharges. The models can be obtained by dimensionally reducing N=1 U(N) super Yang-Mills theory in D=4,6,10 to 1 dimension, respectively. While the non-zero frequency modes become weakly coupled at high temperature, the zero modes remain strongly coupled. We find, however, that the integration over the zero modes that remains after integrating out all the non-zero modes perturbatively, reduces to the evaluation of connected Green's functions in the bosonic IKKT model. We perform Monte Carlo simulation to compute these Green's functions, which are then used to obtain the coefficients of the high temperature expansion for various quantities up to the next-leading order. Our results nicely reproduce the asymptotic behaviors of the recent simulation results at finite temperature. In particular, the fermionic matrices, which decouple at the leading order, give rise to substantial effects at the next-leading order, reflecting finite temperature behaviors qualitatively different from the corresponding models without fermions.Comment: 17 pages, 13 figures, (v2) some typos correcte

    Effect of Vonoprazan on Delayed Bleeding after Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection for Gastric Neoplasia among Antithrombotic Drug Users: A Single-Center, Single-Arm Prospective Observational Case Control Study

    Antithrombotic therapy is a major risk factor for delayed bleeding after endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for gastric neoplasia. A potassium-competitive acid blocker, vonoprazan, is expected to prevent delayed bleeding better than conventional proton pomp inhibitors (PPIs), but the evidence is controversial. We sought to clarify the efficacy of vonoprazan for prevention of delayed bleeding after gastric ESD in patients under antithrombotic therapy. We prospectively registered 50 patients who underwent gastric ESD while receiving antithrombotic therapy and vonoprazan in our institution between October 2017 and September 2018. The incidence of delayed bleeding was compared with that in a historical control group of 116 patients treated with conventional PPI. We also evaluated risk factors associated with delayed bleeding. Delayed bleeding was observed in 8 of 50 patients (16.0%), which was not dissimilar from the incidence in the historical control group (12.1%) (p=0.49). In the univariate analysis, age (> 70 years) (p=0.034), multiple antithrombotic drug use (p 200 min) (p=0.038) and tumor size (> 40 mm) (p<0.01) were associated with delayed bleeding after gastric ESD, but vonoprazan was not (p=0.49). Vonoprazan may not be more effective than conventional PPIs in preventing delayed bleeding after gastric ESD in patients receiving antithrombotic therapy

    Monte Carlo approach to nonperturbative strings -- demonstration in noncritical string theory

    We show how Monte Carlo approach can be used to study the double scaling limit in matrix models. As an example, we study a solvable hermitian one-matrix model with the double-well potential, which has been identified recently as a dual description of noncritical string theory with worldsheet supersymmetry. This identification utilizes the nonperturbatively stable vacuum unlike its bosonic counterparts, and therefore it provides a complete constructive formulation of string theory. Our data with the matrix size ranging from 8 to 512 show a clear scaling behavior, which enables us to extract the double scaling limit accurately. The ``specific heat'' obtained in this way agrees nicely with the known result obtained by solving the Painleve-II equation with appropriate boundary conditions.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, LaTeX, JHEP3.cls; references added, typos correcte

    Carcinogenicity evaluation for the application of carbon nanotubes as biomaterials in rasH2 mice

    The application of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as biomaterials is of wide interest, and studies examining their application in medicine have had considerable significance. Biological safety is the most important factor when considering the clinical application of CNTs as biomaterials, and various toxicity evaluations are required. Among these evaluations, carcinogenicity should be examined with the highest priority; however, no report using transgenic mice to evaluate the carcinogenicity of CNTs has been published to date. Here, we performed a carcinogenicity test by implanting multi-walled CNTs (MWCNTs) into the subcutaneous tissue of rasH2 mice, using the carbon black present in black tattoo ink as a reference material for safety. The rasH2 mice did not develop neoplasms after being injected with MWCNTs; instead, MWCNTs showed lower carcinogenicity than carbon black.
