Optimization Of Herbal Drug Formulations For Syzygium Cumini (Linn) Extracts: Enhancing Antidiabetic And Antioxidant Properties.
The prevalence of diabetes and its associated complications continues to rise globally, creating a pressing need for effective and safe therapeutic approaches. Herbal remedies have gained significant attention as potential adjuncts or alternatives to conventional diabetes management. Syzygium cumini (Linn), commonly known as Jamun or Indian blackberry, possesses established antidiabetic and antioxidant properties. This research paper aims to optimize herbal drug formulations using Syzygium cumini extracts to enhance their antidiabetic and antioxidant effects. A profile of poisoning in pediatric population in rural hospital in Jammu
Background: Acute poisoning is one of the commonest Pediatric emergencies and an important cause of morbidity and mortality. This study is aimed at understanding the incidence, aetiology and manner of poisoning, outcome among children less than 18 years reporting to Pediatric department at sub district Hospital level in Jammu region.Methods: All the children between one month and eighteen years of age reporting to the Pediatric Emergency of SDH Akhnoor, Jammu over a period of one year as a case of acute poisoning were included in the study. The information obtained from subjects/parents/guardians and examinations of subjects was recorded on a pretested proforma and analyzed.Results: A total of 150 patients were admitted as a case of poisoning over a study period of one year. Male: Female ratio was 1.41:1. Total incidence rate was 2.94/100 0 population over a period of one year. Majority of the cases were accidental (94.67%) while suicidal attempt cases were 5.33%. Most the cases (49.33%) were due to accidental ingestion of household products followed by drug ingestion (21.33%), food poisoning (14%) and then agricultural/industrial products (8%). Maximum patients (86.6%) recovered while 2% referred to higher centre and rest 11.3% either absconded or lost to follow up.Conclusions: Acute poisoning in children is usually accidental with favourable outcome. Death can happen depending upon nature of poison and the stage at which the patient is brought to the hospital. Poisoning can be prevented by increasing public awareness, counselling and right guidance to the parents.

Evaluation of capsule labelling for its wall contents as gelatin or non gelatin
Background: Capsules are the most commonly used solid drug dosage form and are made up of gelatin or non gelatin. Currently the gelatin based capsules drug formulations are more used. However, current issue of vegetarian and non vegetarian capsules has come up due to recent Indian government initiative to promote vegetarian capsules.Methods: There were 100 capsule dosage forms were examined for the gelatin or HPMC wall contents and nature of medicine contained in capsules, whether ayurvedic or allopathic.Results: Out of 100 capsules studied 55 had gelatin wall base while 25 had HPMC and 20 capsule labels did not mention the nature of capsule wall constituent. Out of 55 gelatin capsules 30 were of allopathic while 25 capsules were of ayurvedic medicines. Among HPMC, 15 were ayurvedic while 10 allopathic. 20 capsules had no mention of its constituent and among these non labelled capsule formulations had 11 from ayurvedic and 9 from allopathic medicines.Conclusions: The current study revealed that gelatin capsules forms bulk in Indian market. Even the gelatin capsules contained ayurvedic medicines while 10% of HPMC capsules contained allopathic medicines. Non labelled capsules formed 20% of total capsules. These findings suggest wider scope for promotion of HPMC based capsules
A questionnaire based study to evaluate the knowledge, attitude and perception towards pharmacovigilance among doctors in rural hospital, Jammu, India
Background: Monitoring and reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) is very important to minimize or prevent drug caused harm. Thus, pharmacovigilance deals with it and ensures the patient safety. However, most of pharmacovigilance centers are concentrated in the urban tertiary care hospitals and contributes the maximum reports of ADRs. Participation of the rural health workers is equally important towards the success of pharmacovigilance.Methods: The study was conducted using a pre-validated questionnaire among forty doctors in rural Sub district hospital Akhnoor, Jammu after approval of the institutional ethical committee of Government Medical Jammu. The questionnaire consisted of 16 questions (7 related to knowledge, 4 related to attitude, and 4 related to practice and one question pertained to under reporting). The responses were recorded, and data obtained was analysed and presented as number and percentage.Results: Total 66.6% doctors gave correct response regarding the definition of pharmacovigilance and purpose of pharmacovigilance was given by 76.6% of doctors. 70% agreed that ADR reporting is a professional obligation for them. 80% responded that health care professionals are responsible for reporting ADRs. 63.3% of them were aware of a pharmacovigilance programme of India. A total of 96.6% doctors agreed that reporting of ADR is necessary and 93.3% were of the view that pharmacovigilance should be taught in detail. Majority of doctors have experienced ADRs in patients and 36.6% have seen the ADR reporting form. However, only 10% have ever reported ADR to a pharmacovigilance center. No remuneration (50%), lack of time to report ADR (30%), belief that a single unreported case may not affect ADR database (10%), and difficulty to decide whether ADR has occurred or not (10%) were important causes for under reporting of ADRs.Conclusions: Current study has shown that majority of the doctors have good knowledge and attitude about pharmacovigilance. However, under reporting is still a major concern among rural doctors and efforts are needed to address this problem of under reporting by conducting CMEs on regular basis

Incorporating a realistic model for accretion of ultra-relativistic particles
by primordial blackholes (PBHs), we study the evolution of an Einstein-de
Sitter universe consisting of PBHs embedded in a thermal bath from the epoch
sec to sec. In this paper we use Barrow
et al's ansatz to model blackhole evaporation in which the modified Hawking
temperature goes to zero in the limit of the blackhole attaining a relic state
with mass . Both single mass PBH case as well as the case in which
blackhole masses are distributed in the range gm
have been considered in our analysis. Blackholes with mass larger than gm appear to survive beyond the electroweak phase transition and,
therefore, successfully manage to create baryon excess via
emissions, averting the baryon number wash-out due to sphalerons. In this
scenario, we find that the contribution to the baryon-to-entropy ratio by PBHs
of initial mass is given by , where
and are the CP-violating parameter and the initial mass
fraction of the PBHs, respectively. For larger than ,
the observed matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe can be attributed to

Comparative study of impact of marketing strategies of pharmaceutical houses on prescription practices of doctors rural vs urban
Background: Indian pharmaceutical market is fast going and there is a stiff competition amongst them as single product is marketed by different brand names. The pharmaceutical houses adopt different strategies to influence the physician to promote their products. These strategies are known to influence the prescription behaviour of physician, which may have variable impact among rural and urban doctors. Aim of the study was to compare the impact of marketing strategies of pharmaceutical houses on prescription practices of rural and urban doctors.Methods: The current crossover study was conducted among urban and rural doctors. A questionnaire consisting of 17 questions was presented to the doctors and their responses regarding different aspects of marketing strategies was recorded. Comparison between two groups was done using unpaired t-test.Results: Different strategies had impact on prescription pattern of doctors working in rural and urban institutions. All 17 parameters were affected similarly except e-mailing where urban doctors were more influenced (p=0.005).Conclusions: Present study indicates marketing strategies by different pharmaceutical houses do influence prescription pattern of physicians. Both urban and rural doctors were similarly affected except e- mailing which had more impact on urban doctors

Grahani is the site of Agni and does Grahana of Anna and it is supported and nourished by the strength of Agni. Molecular cloning, expression and computational analysis of a water stress inducible copper-containing amine oxidase gene (CuAO) from tea plant [Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze]
Copper-containing amine oxidase (CuAO) is the enzyme known to play diversity of function in plant responses to environmental stresses through its reaction products. Here, for the first time we report full length cDNA encoding CuAO protein from a drought tolerant tea cultivar. It was found to be 785 bp long with a 70 bp 5.-UTR, 193 bp 3.-UTR, 522 bp mORF and a polyA adenylational signal. It codes for a poly-peptide of 173 amino acids having predicted molecular weight and isoelectric point of 19 KDa and 7.75 respectively. Heterologous expression and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) analysis of the protein in Escherichia coli revealed similar size as predicted by in silico analysis. Blastp analysis and template based homology modeling in Phyre2 has identified a copper amine oxidase domain with ligand binding site for copper at residue 123 (Histidine) which suggests its probable role in plant responses to environmental stresses. Interestingly, no signal peptide sequence was detected in the predicted protein which is in contrast to the CuAO so far reported in plants. Although, in slico analysis of the protein have indicated its probable structure and functions, further functional characterization is needed to better understand its role during drought and other environmental stresses in tea.Key words: Camellia sinensis, copper amine oxidase, homology modeling, molecular cloning
