Microplasma-assisted anodization is employed to prepare soluble and crystalline Mo species in a water-deficient and extraneous ionic-salt-free ethanol electrolyte. The anodization of Mo in absolute ethanol is found to produce Mo oxyethoxide in the liquid ethanol phase, along with a small montage of mixed hexagonal and orthorhombic MoO3 crystals. The evolution of Mo species in solid and liquid phases is characterized to study the crystallization of MoO3 crystal and the formation of blue spherical Mo polyoxometalates (POMs) after extended aging. The addition of water in the suspension delayed the formation of molybdenum blue while hydrogen peroxide induced the precipitation of a dendritic framework of hexagonal MoO3. A thin MoO3 film was produced from the solution and can be used for humidity sensing by the facile conductivity measurement.PostprintPostprintPeer reviewe

BACKGROUND: In China, high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) prevalence is unexpectedly high in older women, but the possible reasons have not been well studied yet. This study investigated the age trends of HR-HPV infection in a prospective study. METHODS: A total of 7397 women aged 25-65 years without cervical precancer or cancer were evaluated during 2010-2011 with a stratified sample of 2791 women re-evaluated after one year. Test results for careHPV and careHPV16/18/45 were used to describe the HR-HPV prevalence, incidence and clearance. Risk factors associated with HR-HPV infections were explored using a logistic regression model. RESULTS: The overall HR-HPV prevalence was 13.1% at baseline, with a peak of 19.3% in women aged 55-59 years. The prevalence of HR-HPV (p for trends < 0.001), HPV16/18/45 (p for trends = 0.002), and HR-HPV other than HPV16/18/45 (p for trends = 0.002) generally increased with increasing age. Number of infections that cleared was generally greater than number of incident infections within age groups. One-year clearance rate decreased with increasing age (p for trends < 0.001), however, incidence rate was unrelated to age (p for trends = 0.159). Risk factors that associated with HR-HPV infection differed between younger and older women. CONCLUSIONS: The greater HR-HPV prevalence in older versus younger women in rural China may be explained by a cohort effect, higher than expected incidence, and/or poorer clearance at older age

Quantum Instruction Set Design for Performance

A quantum instruction set is where quantum hardware and software meet. We develop new characterization and compilation techniques for non-Clifford gates to accurately evaluate different quantum instruction set designs. We specifically apply them to our fluxonium processor that supports mainstream instruction iSWAP\mathrm{iSWAP} by calibrating and characterizing its square root SQiSW\mathrm{SQiSW}. We measure a gate fidelity of up to 99.72%99.72\% with an average of 99.31%99.31\% and realize Haar random two-qubit gates using SQiSW\mathrm{SQiSW} with an average fidelity of 96.38%96.38\%. This is an average error reduction of 41%41\% for the former and a 50%50\% reduction for the latter compared to using iSWAP\mathrm{iSWAP} on the same processor. This shows designing the quantum instruction set consisting of SQiSW\mathrm{SQiSW} and single-qubit gates on such platforms leads to a performance boost at almost no cost.Comment: 2 figures in main text and 21 figures in Supplementary Materials. In this study, we demonstrated the direct synthesis of crystalline Co3O4 quantum dots, ca. 2-5 nm in size, by direct anodization of Co foil with charge balanced by the microplasma at the flowing-helium/pure-ethanol interface under ambient condition. The anodic oxidation of cobalt in ethanol was analysed after characterising the solution using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), light absorption, photoluminescence (PL), and the solid product using X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Using the microplasma with high voltage under ambient condition, ethanol was oxidised to acetate as the charge carrier and the size of Co3O4 quantum dots can be controlled by the limiting current. The quantum dots from this method are well dispersed in ethanol and a dense coating for light absorption and a rectified diode can be processed directly from the suspension. These results reveals that microplasma-assisted anodisation in ethanol is an efficient and green route capable of manufacturing quantum dots at low-temperature and avoiding the use of extraneous ionic salts in electrolyte.PostprintPeer reviewe

The LAMOST Survey of Background Quasars in the Vicinity of the Andromeda and Triangulum Galaxies -- II. Results from the Commissioning Observations and the Pilot Surveys

We present new quasars discovered in the vicinity of the Andromeda and Triangulum galaxies with the LAMOST during the 2010 and 2011 observational seasons. Quasar candidates are selected based on the available SDSS, KPNO 4 m telescope, XSTPS optical, and WISE near infrared photometric data. We present 509 new quasars discovered in a stripe of ~135 sq. deg from M31 to M33 along the Giant Stellar Stream in the 2011 pilot survey datasets, and also 17 new quasars discovered in an area of ~100 sq. deg that covers the central region and the southeastern halo of M31 in the 2010 commissioning datasets. These 526 new quasars have i magnitudes ranging from 15.5 to 20.0, redshifts from 0.1 to 3.2. They represent a significant increase of the number of identified quasars in the vicinity of M31 and M33. There are now 26, 62 and 139 known quasars in this region of the sky with i magnitudes brighter than 17.0, 17.5 and 18.0 respectively, of which 5, 20 and 75 are newly-discovered. These bright quasars provide an invaluable collection with which to probe the kinematics and chemistry of the ISM/IGM in the Local Group of galaxies. A total of 93 quasars are now known with locations within 2.5 deg of M31, of which 73 are newly discovered. Tens of quasars are now known to be located behind the Giant Stellar Stream, and hundreds behind the extended halo and its associated substructures of M31. The much enlarged sample of known quasars in the vicinity of M31 and M33 can potentially be utilized to construct a perfect astrometric reference frame to measure the minute PMs of M31 and M33, along with the PMs of substructures associated with the Local Group of galaxies. Those PMs are some of the most fundamental properties of the Local Group.Comment: 26 pages, 6 figures, AJ accepte

Long survival in a pancreatic carcinoma patient with multi-organ toxicities after sintilimab treatment: A case report

    Get PDF
Pancreatic carcinoma is the leading cause of death among digestive malignancies in China. In particular, there is no breakthrough in prolonging the survival of pancreatic cancer patients with chemical and targeted therapies. Tumor immunotherapy brings opportunities and progress for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. Sintilimab is an innovative PD-1 inhibitor which was reported certain clinical benefits in multi-line treatments of advanced pancreatic cancer with gemcitabine. The combination therapy of PD-1 with gemcitabine plus high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in pancreatic cancer has not been reported. Here we report a case of a Chinese old patient diagnosed with metastatic pancreatic cancer. Two months after sintilimab treatment, the patient occurred severe immune colitis. The patient was diagnosed with immune ureteritis after 8 months of treatment. The immue-related adverse events (irAEs) refined after timely recognition and correct intervention by the clinician and clinical pharmacist. After first-line treatment of sintilimab plus gemcitabine combined with pancreatic HIFU, the patient achieved a remarkable benefit of 11-month progression-free survival (PFS) and 20-month overall survival (OS). The first-line treatment of sintilimab plus gemcitabine combined with HIFU demonstrates a potential therapeutic effect on metastatic pancreatic carcinoma with tolerable adverse reactions
