Equation of state of the neutron star matter, and the nuclear symmetry energy

The nuclear mean-field potentials obtained in the Hartree-Fock method with different choices of the in-medium nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction have been used to study the equation of state (EOS) of the neutron star (NS) matter. The EOS of the uniform NS core has been calculated for the npeμe\mu composition in the β\beta-equilibrium at zero temperature, using version Sly4 of the Skyrme interaction as well as two density-dependent versions of the finite-range M3Y interaction (CDM3Ynn and M3Y-Pnn), and versions D1S and D1N of the Gogny interaction. Although the considered effective NN interactions were proven to be quite realistic in numerous nuclear structure and/or reaction studies, they give quite different behaviors of the symmetry energy of nuclear matter at supranuclear densities that lead to the \emph{soft} and \emph{stiff} scenarios discussed recently in the literature. Different EOS's of the NS core and the EOS of the NS crust given by the compressible liquid drop model have been used as input of the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkov equations to study how the nuclear symmetry energy affects the model prediction of different NS properties, like the cooling process as well as the gravitational mass, radius, and moment of inertia.Comment: To be published in Physical Review

A hierarchical architecture for increasing efficiency of large photovoltaic plants under non-homogeneous solar irradiation

    Get PDF
Under non-homogeneous solar irradiation, photovoltaic (PV) panels receive different solar irradiance, resulting in a decrease in efficiency of the PV generation system. There are a few technical options to fix this issue that goes under the name of mismatch. One of these is the reconfiguration of the PV generation system, namely changing the connections of the PV panels from the initial configuration to the optimal one. Such technique has been widely considered for small systems, due to the excessive number of required switches. In this paper, the authors propose a new method for increasing the efficiency of large PV systems under non-homogeneous solar irradiation using Series-Parallel (SP) topology. In the first part of the paper, the authors propose a method containing two key points: a switching matrix to change the connection of PV panels based on SP topology and the proof that the SP-based reconfiguration method can increase the efficiency of the photovoltaic system up to 50%. In the second part, the authors propose the extension of the method proposed in the first part to improve the efficiency of large solar generation systems by means of a two-levels architecture to minimize the cost of fabrication of the switching matrix

Value Chain Analysis of Rice Seed and Potato Tuber Seed in Vietnam: Case study in four provinces from North, Central and South

    Get PDF
The seed value chain analysis study on rice and potato was conducted during August to December 2019 to assess the composition, distinctiveness, strengths and weaknesses of Vietnam’s seed sector. The study examines relevant secondary sources of information and primary data obtained through field surveys using focus group discussion and key informant interviews in four provinces, namely: Bac Ninh and Thai Binh in the north; Quang Binh in the center and Can Tho in the south. The study results indicate that Vietnam has developed a robust seed sector with the involvement of diverse stakeholders throughout the seed value chain of rice and potato. The seed sector has contributed significantly to the success of Vietnam crop production over the past three decades. However, the existing seed sector has also shown many weak areas that need to be addressed for growth of crop production with increased efficiency, innovation, diversification and value addition. To support this goal, the study suggests several interventions and technological improvements in crop breeding, seed production and seed use especially for inbred rice, hybrid rice and potato. The study also proposes a detailed survey and analysis of Vietnam seed legislation to help make the seed sector more dynamic

The influence of combined use of hypoxic−hypercapnic stimulus and different methods of apparatus physiotherapy on the immune system of the patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease was investigated. Combined application of the developed technique was established to diminish T−link deficiency and to restore partially the work of humoral immunity

The nexus among green financial development and renewable energy: investment in the wake of the Covid19 pandemic

Environmental protection has become a significant issue around the globe. The extensive use of renewable energy and green finance is considered as the solution to this dramatic issue, especially in the Covid-19 lockdown. To answer this demand, the present study examines the impact of green financial development such as green credit, green investment, and green securities along with corporate social responsibility (CSR) in reporting renewable energy investment based on evidence from an emerging economy. Economic growth was used as the control variable of the study. The data was gathered from the central bank and World Development Indicators (WDI) from 1976 to 2020. The error correction model (ECM) was used to test the nexus among the variables. The findings revealed that green credit, green investment, and green securities along with CSR reporting and economic growth have a significant positive nexus with renewable energy investment in the selected emerging economy. These outcomes are helpful for new arrivals to investigate this area in the future along with regulators who want to formulate policies related to green finance and renewable energy usage and investment in the context of emerging and developing countries
