Development and Validation of a Microcontroller Model for EMC
Models of integrated circuits (ICs) allow printed circuit board (PCB) developers to predict radiated and conducted emissions early in board development and allow IC manufactures insight into how to build their ICs better for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). A model of the power delivery network, similar to the ICEM or LECCS model, was developed for a microcontroller running a typical program and used to predict the noise voltage between the power and return planes of a PCB. The IC and package model was generated using the Apache tool suite. A model of the PCB was created using an electromagnetic cavity model and lumped-element models of components on the board. Values of predicted and measured impedance looking into the IC and PCB matched within a few dB from a few 10s of MHz up to 1 GHz. Measured and predicted values of noise voltage matched within about 6 dB at clock harmonics up to 600-700 MHz

Lung Injury Prevention with Aspirin (LIPS-A): a Protocol for a Multicentre Randomised Clinical Trial in Medical Patients at High Risk of Acute Lung Injury
Introduction: Acute lung injury (ALI) is a devastating condition that places a heavy burden on public health resources. Although the need for effective ALI prevention strategies is increasingly recognised, no effective preventative strategies exist. The Lung Injury Prevention Study with Aspirin (LIPS-A) aims to test whether aspirin (ASA) could prevent and/or mitigate the development of ALI. Methods and analysis LIPS-A is a multicentre, double-blind, randomised clinical trial testing the hypothesis that the early administration of ASA will result in a reduced incidence of ALI in adult patients at high risk. This investigation will enrol 400 study participants from 14 hospitals across the USA. Conditional logistic regression will be used to test the primary hypothesis that early ASA administration will decrease the incidence of ALI. Ethics and dissemination Safety oversight will be under the direction of an independent Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB). Approval of the protocol was obtained from the DSMB prior to enrolling the first study participant. Approval of both the protocol and informed consent documents were also obtained from the institutional review board of each participating institution prior to enrolling study participants at the respective site. In addition to providing important clinical and mechanistic information, this investigation will inform the scientific merit and feasibility of a phase III trial on ASA as an ALI prevention agent. The findings of this investigation, as well as associated ancillary studies, will be disseminated in the form of oral and abstract presentations at major national and international medical specialty meetings. The primary objective and other significant findings will also be presented in manuscript form. All final, published manuscripts resulting from this protocol will be submitted to Pub Med Central in accordance with the National Institute of Health Public Access Policy

Genome-Wide Association Scan for Diabetic Nephropathy Susceptibility Genes in Type 1 Diabetes
OBJECTIVEâDespite extensive evidence for genetic susceptibility
to diabetic nephropathy, the identification of susceptibility
genes and their variants has had limited success. To search for
genes that contribute to diabetic nephropathy, a genome-wide
association scan was implemented on the Genetics of Kidneys in
Diabetes collection.
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODSâWe genotyped
360,000 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 820 case
subjects (284 with proteinuria and 536 with end-stage renal
disease) and 885 control subjects with type 1 diabetes. Confirmation
of implicated SNPs was sought in 1,304 participants of the
Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT)/Epidemiology
of Diabetes Interventions and Complications (EDIC) study, a
long-term, prospective investigation of the development of diabetes-
associated complications.
RESULTSâA total of 13 SNPs located in four genomic loci were
associated with diabetic nephropathy with P1105. The
strongest association was at the FRMD3 (4.1 protein ezrin,
radixin, moesin [FERM] domain containing 3) locus (odds ratio
[OR]1.45, P5.0107). A strong association was also
identified at the CARS (cysteinyl-tRNA synthetase) locus (OR
1.36, P3.1106). Associations between both loci and time to
onset of diabetic nephropathy were supported in the DCCT/EDIC
study (hazard ratio [HR]1.33, P0.02, and HR1.32, P
0.01, respectively). We demonstrated expression of both FRMD3
and CARS in human kidney.
CONCLUSIONSâWe identified genetic associations for susceptibility
to diabetic nephropathy at two novel candidate loci near
the FRMD3 and CARS genes. Their identification implicates
previously unsuspected pathways in the pathogenesis of this
important late complication of type 1 diabetes

The Magnitude of Global Marine Species Diversity
Background: The question of how many marine species exist is important because it provides a metric for how much we do and do not know about life in the oceans. We have compiled the first register of the marine species of the world and used this baseline to estimate how many more species, partitioned among all major eukaryotic groups, may be discovered.
Results: There are âŒ226,000 eukaryotic marine species described. More species were described in the past decade (âŒ20,000) than in any previous one. The number of authors describing new species has been increasing at a faster rate than the number of new species described in the past six decades. We report that there are âŒ170,000 synonyms, that 58,000â72,000 species are collected but not yet described, and that 482,000â741,000 more species have yet to be sampled. Molecular methods may add tens of thousands of cryptic species. Thus, there may be 0.7â1.0 million marine species. Past rates of description of new species indicate there may be 0.5 ± 0.2 million marine species. On average 37% (median 31%) of species in over 100 recent field studies around the world might be new to science.
Conclusions: Currently, between one-third and two-thirds of marine species may be undescribed, and previous estimates of there being well over one million marine species appear highly unlikely. More species than ever before are being described annually by an increasing number of authors. If the current trend continues, most species will be discovered this century
Expanding the diversity of mycobacteriophages: insights into genome architecture and evolution.
Mycobacteriophages are viruses that infect mycobacterial hosts such as Mycobacterium smegmatis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. All mycobacteriophages characterized to date are dsDNA tailed phages, and have either siphoviral or myoviral morphotypes. However, their genetic diversity is considerable, and although sixty-two genomes have been sequenced and comparatively analyzed, these likely represent only a small portion of the diversity of the mycobacteriophage population at large. Here we report the isolation, sequencing and comparative genomic analysis of 18 new mycobacteriophages isolated from geographically distinct locations within the United States. Although no clear correlation between location and genome type can be discerned, these genomes expand our knowledge of mycobacteriophage diversity and enhance our understanding of the roles of mobile elements in viral evolution. Expansion of the number of mycobacteriophages grouped within Cluster A provides insights into the basis of immune specificity in these temperate phages, and we also describe a novel example of apparent immunity theft. The isolation and genomic analysis of bacteriophages by freshman college students provides an example of an authentic research experience for novice scientists
Finishing the euchromatic sequence of the human genome
The sequence of the human genome encodes the genetic instructions for human physiology, as well as rich information about human evolution. In 2001, the International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium reported a draft sequence of the euchromatic portion of the human genome. Since then, the international collaboration has worked to convert this draft into a genome sequence with high accuracy and nearly complete coverage. Here, we report the result of this finishing process. The current genome sequence (Build 35) contains 2.85 billion nucleotides interrupted by only 341 gaps. It covers âŒ99% of the euchromatic genome and is accurate to an error rate of âŒ1 event per 100,000 bases. Many of the remaining euchromatic gaps are associated with segmental duplications and will require focused work with new methods. The near-complete sequence, the first for a vertebrate, greatly improves the precision of biological analyses of the human genome including studies of gene number, birth and death. Notably, the human enome seems to encode only 20,000-25,000 protein-coding genes. The genome sequence reported here should serve as a firm foundation for biomedical research in the decades ahead
Effect of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor and angiotensin receptor blocker initiation on organ support-free days in patients hospitalized with COVID-19
IMPORTANCE Overactivation of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) may contribute to poor clinical outcomes in patients with COVID-19.
Objective To determine whether angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor or angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) initiation improves outcomes in patients hospitalized for COVID-19.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS In an ongoing, adaptive platform randomized clinical trial, 721 critically ill and 58 nonâcritically ill hospitalized adults were randomized to receive an RAS inhibitor or control between March 16, 2021, and February 25, 2022, at 69 sites in 7 countries (final follow-up on June 1, 2022).
INTERVENTIONS Patients were randomized to receive open-label initiation of an ACE inhibitor (nâ=â257), ARB (nâ=â248), ARB in combination with DMX-200 (a chemokine receptor-2 inhibitor; nâ=â10), or no RAS inhibitor (control; nâ=â264) for up to 10 days.
MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The primary outcome was organ supportâfree days, a composite of hospital survival and days alive without cardiovascular or respiratory organ support through 21 days. The primary analysis was a bayesian cumulative logistic model. Odds ratios (ORs) greater than 1 represent improved outcomes.
RESULTS On February 25, 2022, enrollment was discontinued due to safety concerns. Among 679 critically ill patients with available primary outcome data, the median age was 56 years and 239 participants (35.2%) were women. Median (IQR) organ supportâfree days among critically ill patients was 10 (â1 to 16) in the ACE inhibitor group (nâ=â231), 8 (â1 to 17) in the ARB group (nâ=â217), and 12 (0 to 17) in the control group (nâ=â231) (median adjusted odds ratios of 0.77 [95% bayesian credible interval, 0.58-1.06] for improvement for ACE inhibitor and 0.76 [95% credible interval, 0.56-1.05] for ARB compared with control). The posterior probabilities that ACE inhibitors and ARBs worsened organ supportâfree days compared with control were 94.9% and 95.4%, respectively. Hospital survival occurred in 166 of 231 critically ill participants (71.9%) in the ACE inhibitor group, 152 of 217 (70.0%) in the ARB group, and 182 of 231 (78.8%) in the control group (posterior probabilities that ACE inhibitor and ARB worsened hospital survival compared with control were 95.3% and 98.1%, respectively).
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE In this trial, among critically ill adults with COVID-19, initiation of an ACE inhibitor or ARB did not improve, and likely worsened, clinical outcomes.

It is also in collaboration with a student from Musik Design in Trossingen for the music and sound effects of the film.My wish for this film was to show what I have acquired about animation through the 4 years, ranging from character movements to use of colours, etc. It would be a good closure to my university studies and a beginning to what may come in future. This report will explain how I came out with the idea for my project and list the various stages my project went through. The conceptual problems, practical difficulties encountered and lessons learnt will also be listed during the explanation of each stage.Bachelor of Fine Art
