    Self-locking telescoping manipulator arm

    Get PDF
A telescoping manipulator arm and pivotable finger assembly are disclosed. The telescoping arm assembly includes a generally T-shaped arm having three outwardly extending fingers guided on grooved roller guides to compensate for environmental variations. The pivotable finger assembly includes four pivoting fingers. Arcuate teeth are formed on the ends of the fingers. A rack having teeth on four sides meshes with each one of the fingers. One surface of the rack includes teeth along its entire surface which mesh with teeth of one of the fingers. The teeth at the remote end of the rack engage teeth of a gear wheel. The wheel includes a worm which meshes with a worn drive shaft of the drive motor providing a ninety degree self-locking drive for locking the fingers in a desired position. A similar drive provides a self-locking drive for positioning the telescoping arm

Monetary aggregation theory and statistical index numbers

    Get PDF
This paper is the first of two from the Monetary Services Indices (MSI) Project at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The second paper, Working Paper 96-008B, summarizes the methodology, construction and data sources for the an extensive new database of monetary services indices, often referred to as Divisia monetary aggregates, for the United States. This paper surveys the microeconomic theory of the aggregation of monetary assets, bringing together results that are not otherwise readily available in a single source. In addition to indices of the flow of monetary services, the Project's database contains dual user cost indices, measures of potential aggregation error in the monetary services indices, and measures of the stock of monetary wealth. An overview of the Project and the concept of monetary aggregation is included here as a preface. ; Earlier title: An introduction to monetary aggregation theory and statistical theory and statistical index numbersMonetary theory

False Allegations and Caseworker Conflict: Stressors among Long-Term Foster Parents

    Get PDF
This qualitative study explored the wisdom and expertise of 19 foster parents who averaged 20 years of fostering experience to learn their most formidable challenges while interacting with the child welfare system as well as sources of support. Phenomenological methods revealed patterns in foster parents’ shared experiences. Findings revealed two significant stressors linked to decision-making: 1) feeling disempowered and undervalued by child protection workers, and 2) coping with false allegations and the investigation process. System-level configuration of roles and power placed stakeholders in an adversarial rather than collaborative position. Their licensing social workers and other long-term foster parents were the strongest sources of support. Findings suggest that stressors may be alleviated with an inclusive and collaborative approach toward decision-making about child placement decisions, recurring trainings on the allegation process, assigning a support social worker during investigations, and cultivating an ongoing supportive community among foster parents

The development of the concept of the responsible society: Stockholm to Evanston

Thesis (Ph. D.)--Boston UniversityThe central problem of this study is to trace the development of the idea of the responsible society in the discussions within the Ecumenical movement and to analyze its nature, content, and usefulness. The idea of the responsible society emerged following the Second World War in the discussions focused upon the search for a resolution of the problems of the social and international orders. The idea of the responsible society as formally conceptualized in the "Report of Section III" of the Amsterdam Assembly incorporates the polarity of the social order between freedom and equality under the normative ideal of responsibility. This paper is second of two from the Monetary Services Indices (MSI) Project at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The first paper, Working Paper 96-007B, surveys the microeconomic theory of the aggregation of monetary assets. This paper describe a new database of monetary services indices (MSI) for the United States. The MSI measure the flow of monetary services received each period by households from their holdings of monetary assets; the levels of the indices are often also referred to as Divisia monetary aggregates. In addition to indices of the flow of monetary services, the database contains dual user cost indices, measures of potential aggregation error in the monetary services indices, and measures of the stock of monetary wealth. An overview of the Project and the concept of monetary aggregation is included here as a preface.Monetary theory
