    Solar Energy in Argentina

    There is a large gap between the vast solar resources and the magnitude of solar energy deployment in Argentina. In the case of photovoltaics, the country only reached the 1000 GWh electricity generated yearly landmark in 2020. Solar thermal technology is even less developed, in part due to the low natural gas prices resulting from political strategies that aim to soften the impact of an unstable economy on family budgets. This review describes this gap by summarizing the current state of Argentine solar energy. We summarize the fundamental legal and strategic tools which are available for solar energy deployment, survey the penetration of solar energy into the country?s energy landscape, identify national contributions to the local value chain, and review past and present research and development achievements. Both photovoltaic and solar thermal technologies show a historical fluctuation between local technology development and imported technology and know-how. Finally, a discussion on the main ingredients required to abridge Argentina?s solar gap indicates that stronger, consistent long-term strategies are required in Argentina in order to take advantage of the present window of opportunity, and to play a considerable role in the global energy transition.Fil: Bragagnolo, Julio A..     The German author and Nobel Prize winner Thomas Mann (1875-1955) perceived World War I as a moral battle against the civilization project rooted in the European enlightenment. Like many other German intellectuals of that time, Mann stresses an opposition between the concept of culture and that of civilization – this conflict is seen as inherent in the European soul – and defends Germany’s right to remain a culture that does not evolve into a civilization. The concept of culture can contain irrational features such as mystical, bloody and terrifying teachings, whereas civilization is characterized by reason, enlightenment, skepticism and hostility towards passion and emotion. In his major work The Magic Mountain (1924) however, Mann tries to overcome this opposition and displays, through the metaphors of the text, that a new humanism is dependent upon a mystical and completely illogical balance between culture and civilization. The main character of the novel does not succeed in finding this balance. But, nonetheless, Mann continues to see the possibilities of a new humanism through this perspective in order to point out a humanistic hope in the shadesof two European world wars

Los obstaculos de compatibilidad de sistemas encontrados en versiones anteriores fueron solucionados ajustando su operación para versiones de windows 98/2000/NT y XP. El MER 3.0 constituye un instrumento de acceso ordenado a la información existente sobre el recurso eólico y solar, cuyo objetivo es favorecer el conocimiento y uso de recursos renovables permitiendo a alumnos e interesados en el tema realizar un análisis general o global para determinar las posibilidades de aplicación de fuentes energéticas regenerativas. El programa, que trabaja bajo entorno Windows, puede ser pedido para ser utilizado en educación sin costo alguno.In this work, the first version of renewable energies map of Argentina is presented. It works under windows and allows for a mapping of the solar and wind resource. It also allows the user to make a photovoltaic system dimensioning in any part of the country. The goal in the near future is that any interested person can make the right choice between the solar and wind resource. In this way, simple dimensioning procedures for low power wind applications will be incorporated. The program can be downloaded via web site or ordered free of charge to [email protected]. This program constitutes a powerful tool of ordered access to information about the solar and eolic resource for any person.
