Mini-clusters
Experimental results of mini-clusters observed in Chacaltaya emulsion chamber no.19 are summarized. The study was made on 54 single core shower upper and 91 shower clusters of E(gamma) 10 TeV from 30 families which are visible energy greater than 80 TeV and penetrate through both upper and lower detectors of the two-story chamber. The association of hadrons in mini-cluster is made clear from their penetrative nature and microscopic observation of shower continuation in lower chamber. Small P sub t (gamma) of hadrons in mini-clusters remained in puzzle
Contextual intelligence and expertise in soccer
Coaches consider that game intelligence is one of the main elements that can predict success in competition. The objective of this study was to analize the perceptions that soccer players of different level of expertise had about their intelligence in the field. The Contextual Intelligence Questionnaire (ICD) was applied to a sample of spanish soccer players. This instrument evaluate three dimensions: Anticipatory intelligence, Tactical Intelligence and Competitive Intelligence. Six hundred and ninety of spanish soccer players of different level of expertise, participated in this study. Results showed that this self-perception increased with the level of players. This study confirmed the relevance of feeling able of solving tactical problems in the game, and how this feeling increase with the level of expertise.El presente estudio se pudo llevar a cabo gracias a la ayuda a la investigación concedida por la Cátedra Real Madrid- Universidad Europea de Madrid en su convocatoria 201
Was the GLE on May 17, 2012 linked with the M5.1-class flare the first in the 24th solar cycle?
On May 17, 2012 an M5.1-class flare exploded from the sun. An O-type coronal
mass ejection (CME) was also associated with this flare. There was an instant
increase in proton flux with peak at MeV, leading to S2 solar
radiation storm level. In about 20 minutes after the X-ray emission, the solar
particles reached the Earth. It was the source of the first (since December
2006) ground level enhancement (GLE) of the current solar cycle 24. The GLE was
detected by neutron monitors (NM) and other ground based detectors. Here we
present an observation by the Tupi muon telescopes (Niteroi, Brazil, , , 3 m above sea level) of the enhancement of muons at ground
level associated with this M5.1-class solar flare. The Tupi telescopes
registered a muon excess over background in the 5-min binning time
profile. The Tupi signal is studied in correlation with data obtained by
space-borne detectors (GOES, ACE), ground based neutron monitors (Oulu) and air
shower detectors (the IceTop surface component of the IceCube neutrino
observatory). We also report the observation of the muon signal possibly
associated with the CME/sheath striking the Earth magnetosphere on May 20,
2012. We show that the observed temporal correlation of the muon excess
observed by the Tupi muon telescopes with solar transient events suggests a
real physical connection between them. Our observation indicates that
combination of two factors, the low energy threshold of the Tupi muon
telescopes and the location of the Tupi experiment in the South Atlantic
Anomaly region, can be favorable in the study and detection of the solar
transient events. Our experiment provides new data complementary to other
techniques (space and ground based) in the study of solar physics.Comment: 9 pages, 10 figure
Leading nucleon and inelasticity in hadron-nucleus interactions
We present in this paper a calculation of the average proton-nucleus ine-
lasticity. Using an Iterative Leading Particle Model and the Glauber model, we
relate the leading particle distribution in nucleon-nucleus interactions with
the respective one in nucleon-proton collisions. To describe the leading
particle distribution in nucleon-proton collisions, we use the Regge-Mueller
formalism. To appear in Journal of Physics G.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figure
Bathyraja albomaculata, Whitedotted Skate
The Whitedotted Skate (Bathryraja albomaculata) is a large (to 150 cm total length) skate that occurs in the Southeast Pacific and Southwest Atlantic Oceans from Coquimbo, Chile south around Cape Horn and north to Uruguay, including the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) and the Burdwood Bank, and is demersal on the inshore continental shelf and upper slope at depths of 55?945 m. It is captured in industrial longline and trawl fisheries, which operate throughout its range. Although discarded dead in some parts of its range, it is utilized for human consumption in others. In the Southeast Pacific, skates targeted in fisheries (Dipturus spp.) have undergone severe population reductions where this species is captured as unmanaged bycatch. In the Southwest Atlantic, there are some general management measures in place for skates but they are not species-specific. This skate is now absent from approximately one-third of its distribution in Argentina due to heavy fishing pressure on skates. Overall, due to the level of exposure to inadequately managed fisheries, noted population reductions in other skates, its lack of refuge at depth, a suspected decline in area of occupancy, and a combination of declines in some areas and stability in others, it is suspected that the Whitedotted Skate has undergone a population reduction of 30-49% over the past three generations (40.5 years). Therefore, the Whitedotted Skate is assessed as Vulnerable A2bd.Fil: Pollom, R.. University Fraser Simon; CanadáFil: Dulvy, N. K.. University Fraser Simon; CanadáFil: Acuña, E..
