Stockpiling Tall Fescue in the Mid-Latitude Region of the Eastern United States
Stockpiling grass is a method of growing forage for deferred grazing during winter. Tall fescue is the best adapted cool-season perennial grass available in the mid-latitude of the eastern United States (US) for stockpiling (accumulating growth of) forage for deferred grazing in the fall and winter. Thus it can provide much of the fall and winter feed for livestock. Grazing stockpiled tall fescue reduces winter feeding cost and better distributes nutrients compared to traditional hay feeding methods. The Effectiveness of Data Representation Characteristics on User Validation
Many different data modelling or representation schemes have been used or proposed. One important use of such data representations is to communicate the data content of a proposed system design to users: the user validation task. The effects of the characteristics of four such data models on user comprehension were investigated in a controlled laboratory experiment. The results showed that the two primarily graphical representations were more understandable than two alternatives for most of a set of tasks designed to simulate user validation. There were some preliminary indications that the graphical or semantic data models led to more systematic data modelling behavior. Relational models did out-perform graphical models with respect to relationship identifier recognition. Additional research is discussed that will more fully explore the role of data representations in systems development. The results of this experiment are also be applicable to end-user computing

Deer meat, or venison, is nutritious and as versatile as beef; however, the eating quality or acceptability is greatly influenced by the hunter's actions immediately after the deer is killed. Microbial Decontamination and Weight of Carcass Beef as Affected by Automated Washing Pressure and Length of Time of Spray
Carcass beef has traditionally been washed by hand to remove foreign material such as hair, soil particles, and microbiological organisms that have contaminated the surfaces. These carcasses are inspected by the Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS)to detect defects related to carcass cleanliness. Recent research and development of technology have emphasized automated machine washing.
At pressures above that normally used, it is conceivable that water could penetrate tissue surfaces and be absorbed by the carcasses. Also, longer wash periods may enhance water uptake by carcasses. According to the ASH RAE Handbook and Product Directory, the average shrinkage of carcass beef using good current practices was 1.3% at 20 hr postmortem. USDA meat inspection regulations required that carcasses sustain no net increase in weight due to absorption of water during the washing process. There is no available literature on the effects of various automated washing techniques on carcass weights after a 20-hr chill.
The objectives of the study reported presently were to determine the effects of nozzle pressure and length of time washed on the microflora and weights of carcass beef at 20 hr postmortem
Development of High Granulated Straw Chambers of Large Sizes
We have developed the baseline design for the straw drift tube tracking
detectors for high rate environment application. The low-mass inner straw
elements and the technology of the multianode straws assembly was devised and
checked. The prototype chamber was constructed and studied the granularity of
similar chambers can be reduced to one cm2.

Quasi two-dimensional Fermi surface topography of the delafossite PdRhO2
The authors acknowledge the financial support from the European Research Council (through the QUESTDO project), the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council UK (Grants No. EP/I031014/1 and No. EP/L015110/1), the Royal Society, and the Max-Planck Society.We report on a combined study of the de Haas-van Alphen effect and angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy on single crystals of the metallic delafossite PdRhO2 rounded off by ab initio band structure calculations. A high sensitivity torque magnetometry setup with SQUID readout and synchrotron-based photoemission with a light spot size of ~50μm enabled high resolution data to be obtained from samples as small as 150 × 100 × 20(μm)3. The Fermi surface shape is nearly cylindrical with a rounded hexagonal cross section enclosing a Luttinger volume of 1.00(1) electrons per formula unit.PostprintPeer reviewe
Fermi surface of PtCoO2 from quantum oscillations and electronic structure calculations

Of these, PtCoO2, with a room-temperature resistivity of 1.8 μΩcm for in-plane transport, is the most conducting of all. The high conduction takes place in triangular lattice Pt layers, separated by layers of Co-O octahedra, and the electronic structure is determined by the interplay of the two types of layers. We present a detailed study of quantum oscillations in PtCoO2, at temperatures down to 35 mK and magnetic fields up to 30 T. As for PdCoO2 and PdRhO2, the Fermi surface consists of a single cylinder with mainly Pt character and an effective mass close to the free-electron value. Due to Fermi-surface warping, two close-lying high frequencies are observed. Additionally, a pronounced difference frequency appears. By analyzing the detailed angular dependence of the quantum-oscillation frequencies, we establish the warping parameters of the Fermi surface. We compare these results to the predictions of first-principles electronic-structure calculations including spin-orbit coupling on Pt and Co and on-site correlation U on Co, and hence demonstrate that electronic correlations in the Co-O layers play an important role in determining characteristic features of the electronic structure of PtCoO2.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe
