    Głównym celem artykułu była ocena atrakcyjności wizualnej krajobrazu fragmentu doliny Mrogi wraz z jej najbliższym sąsiedztwem w granicach administracyjnych gminy Dmosin. Oceny tej dokonano przy zastosowaniu metody fotograficznej Cymermana i Hopfera (1988), zmodyfikowanej przez Hajnrych (2006). Metoda polegała na ocenie 426 fotografii wykonanych z 72 stanowisk dokumentacyjnych, zlokalizowanych wzdłuż doliny rzeki Mrogi. Na podstawie wyników oceny wydzielono pięć klas atrakcyjności wizualnej krajobrazu. Największy udział mają tereny o niewielkiej i przeciętnej atrakcyjności wizualnej, a obszarów o dużej i bardzo dużej atrakcyjności jest niewiele. Do artykułu dołączono opracowaną na podstawie badań mapę atrakcyjności wizualnej krajobrazu.The main aim of this paper was an evaluation of the visual attractiveness of landscape of the Mroga valley and its surroundings in the administrative borders of the Dmosin commune. That evaluation was made by a photographic method of Cymerman and Hopfer (1988), modified by Hajnrych (2006). The method was based on an evaluation of 426 photographs taken at the 72 documentation sites located along the valley of Mroga river valley. On the basis of results of the assessment, it established five classes of visual attractiveness of the landscape were established, of which the largest share included areas of low and average visual attractiveness. Areas of high and very high visual attractiveness were few. A map of visual attractiveness of the landscape was made

    Hybrid materials based on L,D-poly(lactic acid) and Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes as flexible substrate for organic devices

    We report on the application of l,d-poly(lactic acid) (l,d-PLA) with dispersed Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCN) as a flexible translucent electrode for organic devices. We used commercially available nanotubes in various weight ratios from 0 to 8% dispersed in chloroform polymeric solution by ultrasonication and were drop cast. The created hybrid materials were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry to determine the influence of SWCN content on the thermal behavior, while polarizing optical microscope was used to find the effect of mechanical deformations on the textures. Drop-cast films were studied by optical transmittance, conductivity, dielectric properties and by thermal imaging under applied potential. Thermal imaging provided evidence of visible voltage-activated conduction. Simple mechanical deformation such as bending with stretching at edge to ca. 90 and elongation test were performed. Moreover, interactions between l,d-poly(lactic acid) and SWCN were investigated by FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy. Finally, we can conclude that the thermographic examination of created films permits fast, simple and inexpensive localization of defects on the surface of l,d-PLA:SWCN film, together with the electrical properties of the films

    Clinical complexity and impact of the ABC (Atrial fibrillation Better Care) pathway in patients with atrial fibrillation: a report from the ESC-EHRA EURObservational Research Programme in AF General Long-Term Registry

    Background: Clinical complexity is increasingly prevalent among patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The ‘Atrial fibrillation Better Care’ (ABC) pathway approach has been proposed to streamline a more holistic and integrated approach to AF care; however, there are limited data on its usefulness among clinically complex patients. We aim to determine the impact of ABC pathway in a contemporary cohort of clinically complex AF patients. Methods: From the ESC-EHRA EORP-AF General Long-Term Registry, we analysed clinically complex AF patients, defined as the presence of frailty, multimorbidity and/or polypharmacy. A K-medoids cluster analysis was performed to identify different groups of clinical complexity. The impact of an ABC-adherent approach on major outcomes was analysed through Cox-regression analyses and delay of event (DoE) analyses. Results: Among 9966 AF patients included, 8289 (83.1%) were clinically complex. Adherence to the ABC pathway in the clinically complex group reduced the risk of all-cause death (adjusted HR [aHR]: 0.72, 95%CI 0.58–0.91), major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs; aHR: 0.68, 95%CI 0.52–0.87) and composite outcome (aHR: 0.70, 95%CI: 0.58–0.85). Adherence to the ABC pathway was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of death (aHR: 0.74, 95%CI 0.56–0.98) and composite outcome (aHR: 0.76, 95%CI 0.60–0.96) also in the high-complexity cluster; similar trends were observed for MACEs. In DoE analyses, an ABC-adherent approach resulted in significant gains in event-free survival for all the outcomes investigated in clinically complex patients. Based on absolute risk reduction at 1 year of follow-up, the number needed to treat for ABC pathway adherence was 24 for all-cause death, 31 for MACEs and 20 for the composite outcome. Conclusions: An ABC-adherent approach reduces the risk of major outcomes in clinically complex AF patients. Ensuring adherence to the ABC pathway is essential to improve clinical outcomes among clinically complex AF patients

    Impact of renal impairment on atrial fibrillation: ESC-EHRA EORP-AF Long-Term General Registry

    Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) and renal impairment share a bidirectional relationship with important pathophysiological interactions. We evaluated the impact of renal impairment in a contemporary cohort of patients with AF. Methods: We utilised the ESC-EHRA EORP-AF Long-Term General Registry. Outcomes were analysed according to renal function by CKD-EPI equation. The primary endpoint was a composite of thromboembolism, major bleeding, acute coronary syndrome and all-cause death. Secondary endpoints were each of these separately including ischaemic stroke, haemorrhagic event, intracranial haemorrhage, cardiovascular death and hospital admission. Results: A total of 9306 patients were included. The distribution of patients with no, mild, moderate and severe renal impairment at baseline were 16.9%, 49.3%, 30% and 3.8%, respectively. AF patients with impaired renal function were older, more likely to be females, had worse cardiac imaging parameters and multiple comorbidities. Among patients with an indication for anticoagulation, prescription of these agents was reduced in those with severe renal impairment, p <.001. Over 24 months, impaired renal function was associated with significantly greater incidence of the primary composite outcome and all secondary outcomes. Multivariable Cox regression analysis demonstrated an inverse relationship between eGFR and the primary outcome (HR 1.07 [95% CI, 1.01–1.14] per 10 ml/min/1.73 m2 decrease), that was most notable in patients with eGFR <30 ml/min/1.73 m2 (HR 2.21 [95% CI, 1.23–3.99] compared to eGFR ≥90 ml/min/1.73 m2). Conclusion: A significant proportion of patients with AF suffer from concomitant renal impairment which impacts their overall management. Furthermore, renal impairment is an independent predictor of major adverse events including thromboembolism, major bleeding, acute coronary syndrome and all-cause death in patients with AF

    Impact of clinical phenotypes on management and outcomes in European atrial fibrillation patients: a report from the ESC-EHRA EURObservational Research Programme in AF (EORP-AF) General Long-Term Registry

    Background: Epidemiological studies in atrial fibrillation (AF) illustrate that clinical complexity increase the risk of major adverse outcomes. We aimed to describe European AF patients\u2019 clinical phenotypes and analyse the differential clinical course. Methods: We performed a hierarchical cluster analysis based on Ward\u2019s Method and Squared Euclidean Distance using 22 clinical binary variables, identifying the optimal number of clusters. We investigated differences in clinical management, use of healthcare resources and outcomes in a cohort of European AF patients from a Europe-wide observational registry. Results: A total of 9363 were available for this analysis. We identified three clusters: Cluster 1 (n = 3634; 38.8%) characterized by older patients and prevalent non-cardiac comorbidities; Cluster 2 (n = 2774; 29.6%) characterized by younger patients with low prevalence of comorbidities; Cluster 3 (n = 2955;31.6%) characterized by patients\u2019 prevalent cardiovascular risk factors/comorbidities. Over a mean follow-up of 22.5 months, Cluster 3 had the highest rate of cardiovascular events, all-cause death, and the composite outcome (combining the previous two) compared to Cluster 1 and Cluster 2 (all P <.001). An adjusted Cox regression showed that compared to Cluster 2, Cluster 3 (hazard ratio (HR) 2.87, 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.27\u20133.62; HR 3.42, 95%CI 2.72\u20134.31; HR 2.79, 95%CI 2.32\u20133.35), and Cluster 1 (HR 1.88, 95%CI 1.48\u20132.38; HR 2.50, 95%CI 1.98\u20133.15; HR 2.09, 95%CI 1.74\u20132.51) reported a higher risk for the three outcomes respectively. Conclusions: In European AF patients, three main clusters were identified, differentiated by differential presence of comorbidities. Both non-cardiac and cardiac comorbidities clusters were found to be associated with an increased risk of major adverse outcomes

    Background: Small for gestational age is a pregnancy complication associated with a variety of adverse perinatal outcomes. The aim of the study was to investigate if sFlt-1/PlGF ratio is related to adverse short-term neonatal outcome in neonates small for gestational age in normotensive pregnancy. Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted. Serum sFlt-1/PlGF ratio was measured in women in singleton gestation diagnosed with fetus small for gestational age. Short-term neonatal outcome analyzed in the period between birth and discharge home. Results: Eighty-two women were included. Women with sFlt-1/PlGF ratio ≥33 gave birth to neonates with lower birthweight at lower gestational age. Neonates from high ratio group suffered from respiratory disorders and NEC significantly more often. They were hospitalized at NICU more often and were discharged home significantly later. sFlt-1/PlGF ratio predicted combined neonatal outcome with sensitivity of 73% and specificity of 82.2%. Conclusions: sFlt-1/PlGF ratio is a useful toll in prediction of short-term adverse neonatal outcome in SGA pregnancies

    Biochemical and cardiovascular predictors of PIMS-TS risk in children after COVID-19 recovery : preliminary results of the LATE-COVID-Kids Study

    INTRODUCTION: We aimed to characterize biochemical and cardiovascular predictors of the paediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS) risk based on the data from the LATE-COVID-Kids study. METHODS: 148 consecutive COVID-19 convalescents hospitalized for the clinical evaluation after the acute phase of COVID-19 were classified into two groups related to symptoms: 33 children finally diagnosed with PIMS-TS and 115 children without PIMS-TS (control group). RESULTS: PIMS-TS children were significantly younger (6.79 ±4.57 vs. 9.10 ±4.94 years). After adjustment, in comparison to those without, PIMS-TS children had a higher level of antithrombin III (111 ±9.30 vs. 105 ±11.4), higher heart rate (HR)/min (100 (89.0–111) vs. 90 (79.7–100)) and sinus rhythm (p = 0.03) but lower PQ interval (p = 0.02) on admission to hospital. The lymphocytes (absolute count and percentage) were significantly higher in children with PIMS-TS, and the opposite results were obtained for IgA and neutrophils. Furthermore, children with PIMS-TS had a higher level of thyroid stimulating hormone (2.76 (2.16–4.18) vs. 2.36 (1.73–2.83)) and red cell distribution width (p < 0.005) compared to those without. CONCLUSIONS: It is the first data on the possible predictors of PIMS-TS risk in the Long-COVID period. These results need to be further validated to next create the PIMS SCORE algorithm, which might enable the effective prediction of children with the risk of PIMS-TS occurrence after COVID-19 recovery

    Yeasts provide attractive host/vector systems for heterologous gene expression. The currently used yeast-based expression platforms include mesophilic and thermotolerant species. A eukaryotic expression system working at low temperatures could be particularly useful for the production of thermolabile proteins and proteins that tend to form insoluble aggregates. For this purpose, an expression system based on an Antarctic psychrotolerant yeast Debaryomyces macquariensis strain D50 that is capable of growing at temperatures ranging from 0 to 30 °C has been developed. The optimal physical culture conditions for D. macquariensis D50 in a fermenter are as follows: temperature 20 °C, pH 5.5, aeration rate of 1.5 vvm, and a stirring speed of 300 rpm. Four integrative plasmid vectors equipped with an expression cassette containing the constitutive GAP promoter and CYC1 transcriptional terminator from D. macquariensis D50 were constructed and used to clone and express a gene-encoding cold-active β-d-galactosidase of Paracoccus sp. 32d. The yield was 1150 U/L of recombinant yeast culture. Recombinant D. macquariensis D50 strains were mitotically stable under both selective and non-selective conditions. The D. macquariensis D50 host/vector system has been successfully utilized for the synthesis of heterologous thermolabile protein, and it can be an alternative to other microbial expression systems
