Digital economy and development: an empirical study on motorcycle driver jobs in Uganda

    Get PDF
This study investigates how the digital economy benefits motorcycle taxi drivers in Uganda. It focuses on three motorcycle related businesses connected the digital economy and studies the impact of the digital economy on drivers’ gross profit. The results show that the digital economy directly enhances the financial capability of motorcycle drivers and their work efficiency. Likewise, it indirectly creates greater demand for motorcycle drivers in the market, including for motorcycle taxi drivers connected to motorcycle taxi app platforms and e-commerce motorcycle delivery drivers. Another crucial point for the motorcycle taxi drivers to benefit from the digital economy is the enhancement of their employability skills

The origin of MeV gamma-ray diffuse emission from the inner Galactic region

The origin of the inner Galactic emission, measured by COMPTEL with a flux of  102\sim ~ 10^{-2} MeV cm2^{-2} s1^{-1} sr1^{-1} in the 1-30 MeV range, has remained unsettled since its discovery in 1994. We investigate the origin of this emission by taking into account individual sources which are not resolved by COMPTEL and the Galactic diffuse emission. The source contribution is estimated for sources crossmatched between the Swift-BAT and Fermi-LAT catalogs by interpolating the energy spectra in the hard X-ray and GeV gamma-ray ranges, as well as unmatched sources. This results in a flux of \sim20% of the COMPTEL excess. The Galactic diffuse emission is calculated by GALPROP to reconcile the cosmic-ray and gamma-ray spectra with observations by AMS-02, Voyager, and Fermi-LAT, resulting in a flux of \sim30-80% of the COMPTEL emission. Thus, we show that the COMPTEL emission could be roughly reproduced by a combination of the sources and the Galactic diffuse emission. Furthermore, combined with the extragalactic emission, we construct all-sky images in the MeV gamma-ray range to pinpoint some potential interesting targets for future missions, which would be critical for bridging the MeV gap in the spectra of gamma-ray sources.Comment: Proceedings of Science; 7th Heidelberg International Symposium on High-Energy Gamma-Ray Astronomy (Gamma2022), 4-8 July 2022, Barcelona, Spai

    UDFS in shoulder surgeries

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to clarify the difference in onset timing and incidence of undiagnosed finger symptom (UDFS) between various shoulder surgical procedures. In this study, UDFS symptoms included the following four symptoms in the fingers ; edema, limited range-of-motion, skin color changes, and abnormal sensations. UDFS cases were defined as those presenting with at least one UDFS. In result, the incidence rate of UDFS cases was 7.1% overall (58 / 816 shoulders), 7.4% (32 / 432) in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR), 9.0% (11 / 122) in open rotator cuff repair (ORCR), 1.4% (2 / 145) in arthroscopic subacromial decompression (ASD), 13.2% (5 / 38) in open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF), 11.1% (3 / 27) in humeral head replacement, 4.8% (1 / 21) in anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty, and 12.9% (4 / 31) in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty cases. The Rate was significantly higher with ARCR compared to ASD (p < .01). About onset timing in weeks postoperatively, the ORIF group had a statistically earlier symptom onset than the Rotator cuff repair (ARCR + ORCR) group (2.4 weeks vs. 6.0 weeks, p < .01). When classifying the onset timing into before and after the removal of the abduction pillow, the ORIF group showed a statistically higher rate of onset before brace removal than the Rotator cuff repair groups (p < .01). Differences in UDFS among shoulder surgeries were demonstrated in this study

Hard X-ray Properties of the Merging Cluster Abell 3667 as Observed with Suzaku

Wide-band Suzaku data on the merging cluster Abell 3667 were examined for hard X-ray emission in excess to the known thermal component. Suzaku detected X-ray signals in the wide energy band from 0.5 to 40 keV. The hard X-ray (> 10 keV) flux observed by the HXD around the cluster center cannot be explained by a simple extension of the thermal emission with average temperature of ~7 keV. The emission is most likely an emission from a very hot (kT > 13.2 keV) thermal component around the cluster center, produced via a strong heating process in the merger. In the north-west radio relic, no signature of non-thermal emission was observed. Using the HXD, the overall upper-limit flux within a 34'x34' field-of-view around the relic is derived to be 5.3e-12 erg s-1 cm-2 in the 10-40 keV band, after subtracting the ICM contribution estimated using the XIS or the XMM-Newton spectra. Directly on the relic region, the upper limit is further tightened by the XIS data to be less than 7.3e-13 erg s-1 cm-2, when converted into the 10--40 keV band. The latter value suggest that the average magnetic field within the relic is higher than 1.6 uG. The non-thermal pressure due to magnetic fields and relativistic electrons may be as large as ~20% of the thermal pressure in the region.Comment: 18 pages, 13 figures, to be appeared in PASJ 200
