This paper described re-flight flight testing results of the miniature water propulsion system combined an ion thruster and resistojet thrusters which is to be demonstrated on-orbit by JAXA’s program named Innovative Satellite Technology Demonstration-3. The unified propulsion system has a huge potential to expand micro/nano-spacecraft utilization and decrease the risk of debris

Consumer behaviour in E-Commerce : Millennials in the USA, Washington D.C area

The target of this thesis was to understand consumer behaviour in e-commerce. The target area is the Washington DC area USA from amongst young adults between 21-34 years of age classified as millennials. The impact of technology changes and variables influencing the selection process of an e-retailer among the millennials was studied. A research with help of a survey to total 285 participants in four different shopping malls was performed in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area conducted between April 1st and May 31st 2015. The findings of the survey show that both the number of consumers who use the Internet for both assessing a product and retailers that are selling via Internet is growing in the area of this research. Consumers are also purchasing with more frequency on the Internet and as such the importance of the Internet is becoming a crucial aspect to understand consumer behaviour. The items purchased on the Internet range from small purchase items of iPhone cases to large purchase of vessels and work trucks with prices ranging on the thousands of dollars. Trust is imperative on the Internet and along increasing competition it is the all more important to have a strict control of what goes in the Internet and what goes out to the Internet in regards to ones business. On a personal note, I had an experience purchasing a truck replacement part from a farm ways out in Pennsylvania farmland. The seller at the conclusion of the transaction re-marked how without “this Internet” we would have never met or known we existed. I believe that simple remark summarizes all the importance of E-Commerce

Development of Water Gridded Ion Thruster for Small Satellites: Toward On-Orbit Demonstration

    Get PDF
Water as a propellant has many advantages and does not require a pressure vessel for storage. Its high safety level can reduce development cost and time. It is also a resource tightly tied to human spaceflight and found in-situ in the upcoming moon missions. Stored in its liquid state in our thrusters, it is then vaporized at room temperature and low pressure. The resulted steam is then injected in the discharge chambers where it is transformed into plasma. Plasma generation is achieved through flight-proven microwave discharge using Electron Cyclotron Resonance

CSC MARKERS IN OSCC AND THEIR ASSOCIATION WITH CLINICAL FACTORS

    Get PDF
Cancer stem cells (CSCs) exhibit self-replication, self-differentiation, drug resistance and immune evasion activities. In recent years CSCs have become increasingly important for the treatment of malignant tumors. CSCs express specific markers, including cluster of differentiation (CD)44, CD44 variant 9 (CD44v9), ATP-binding cassette sub-family G member 2 (ABCG2), CD24, B lymphoma Mo-MLV insertion region 1 homolog (BMI-1) and aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 (ALDH1). However, the prognostic value of their expression in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) are not well known. The present study evaluated these markers in stage I and II patients with OSCC and examined the association between T classification, histological differentiation, classification of invasion mode, lymph node metastasis and disease-free survival rate. Tissue specimens were obtained from 70 patients with stage I or II OSCC following either surgery or biopsy. Immunohistochemistry was performed and positive staining was defiend as 10% positive cells. CD44 and CD44v9 expressions were strongly detected in all OSCC tissues compared with normal epithelial cells. A total of 22 (31.4%) cases expressed ABCG2 and there was a significant association between ABCG2 expression and invasion. A total of 41 cases (59.0%) expressed CD24 and there was a significant association between CD24 expression and invasion. A total of 33 cases (47.1%) expressed BMI-1 and there was a significant association between BMI-1 expression and the disease-free survival rate. A total of 18 cases (25.7%) expressed ALDH1. Although there was no association between ALDH1 expression and T classification, there were significant associations between ALDH1 expression and histological differentiation, invasion mode, metastasis and the disease-free survival rate. Multivariate analysis revealed that ALDH1 expression was the only prognostic factor for disease-free survival rate. The results of the present study suggest that the positivity of ALDH1 detected in patients with OSCC correlates with the number of cells undergoing epithelial mesenchymal transition and metastasis. These findings indicated that the expression of ALDH1 may be an effective prognostic marker indicating the survival of patients with stage I and II OSCC

Keishibukuryogan (Gui-Zhi-Fu-Ling-Wan), a Kampo Formula, Decreases Disease Activity and Soluble Vascular Adhesion Molecule-1 in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Get PDF
An increasing death rate due to cardiovascular disease in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been reported. Keishibukuryogan (KBG) is a traditional Chinese/Japanese (Kampo) formula that has been administered to patients with blood stagnation, e.g. thrombotic disease and atherosclerosis. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of KBG on disease activity and endothelial dysfunction in RA patients. Sixteen RA patients were enrolled and administered KBG (12 g per day) for 12 weeks in addition to continuing other drugs. The disease activity of RA was assessed by modified disease activity scores for 28 joints (DAS(28)). Plasma levels of adhesion molecules, soluble E-selectin (sE-selectin), soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) were evaluated. C-reactive protein (CRP), inflammatory cytokines (IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α) and lipid peroxide (LPO) were also evaluated. Fourteen patients completed the study. The disease activity of RA, tender joint count, swollen joint count and DAS(28) decreased significantly. Among adhesion molecules, only sVCAM-1 decreased significantly. LPO also decreased significantly, whereas CRP and inflammatory cytokines remained unchanged. These results suggest that KBG has insufficient anti-inflammatory or immunomodulating effect but does have a beneficial effect on articular symptoms and a protective effect against endothelial dysfunction in RA patients

Efficient Model Selection for Predictive Pattern Mining Model by Safe Pattern Pruning

Predictive pattern mining is an approach used to construct prediction models when the input is represented by structured data, such as sets, graphs, and sequences. The main idea behind predictive pattern mining is to build a prediction model by considering substructures, such as subsets, subgraphs, and subsequences (referred to as patterns), present in the structured data as features of the model. The primary challenge in predictive pattern mining lies in the exponential growth of the number of patterns with the complexity of the structured data. In this study, we propose the Safe Pattern Pruning (SPP) method to address the explosion of pattern numbers in predictive pattern mining. We also discuss how it can be effectively employed throughout the entire model building process in practical data analysis. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we conduct numerical experiments on regression and classification problems involving sets, graphs, and sequences
