    Hot nuclear matter in the modified quark-meson coupling model with quark-quark correlations

    Short-range quark-quark correlations in hot nuclear matter are examined within the modified quark-meson coupling model (MQMC) by adding repulsive scalar and vector quark-quark interactions. Without these correlations, the bag radius increases with the baryon density. However when the correlations are introduced the bag size shrinks as the bags overlap. Also as the strength of the scalar quark-quark correlation is increased, the decrease of the effective nucleon mass MNM^{*}_N with the baryonic density is slowed down and tends to saturate at high densities. Within this model we study the phase transition from the baryon-meson phase to the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) phase with the latter modeled as an ideal gas of quarks and gluons inside a bag. Two models for the QGP bag parameter are considered. In one case, the bag is taken to be medium-independent and the phase transition from the hadron phase to QGP is found to occur at 5-8 times ordinary nuclear matter density for temperatures less than 60 MeV. For lower densities, the transition takes place at higher temperature reaching up to 130 MeV at zero density. In the second case, the QGP bag parameter is considered medium-dependent as in the MQMC model for the hadronic phase.     Festival attendees’ perceptions of green hotel practices

    Lodging managers and festival organizers have an incentive to understand how festival attendees perceive hotels with green practices in place. Lodging managers that understand how to segment, target, and position their offerings to festival attendees, including sustainable practices, can maximize financial gains from festivals. Festival organizers have related interests: they want to minimize negative impacts on the physical environment and maximize positive customer experiences on- and off-site. To provide insights into festival attendees’ perceptions of green hotel practices that may assist both sets of stakeholders, the manuscript presents the results of a survey of convenience samples from two food festivals. The analysis relates perceptions of hotel desirability to characteristics that have been successfully used to segment consumers in the past. While gender, education, income, and environmental values did not have significant relationships with whether thirteen sustainable hotel practices increased hotel desirability, age, festival type, and environmental self-efficacy did. The results, which include ratings of the thirteen green practices, have practical implications for festival organizers, who may want to collaborate with greener hotels to minimize negative festival outcomes, and for lodging managers, who may want to segment festival audiences and appropriately position hotel sustainable practices for festival attendees

    A new MIMO system using Modified Hermite Pulses Compared to MIMO-OFDM system

    Abstract: -This paper is intended to compare between a new MIMO system proposed using the Modified Hermite pulses and MIMO-OFDM system in the coherent case (the channel is supposed perfectly known by the receiver). The studied system exploit space time block coding and integrate the technique BICM as a powerful tool to ensure a robust communication. The estimate of the symbols in reception is articulated on the maximum likelihood criterion. Simulations results proved that the MIMO system using modified Hermite pulses offers better performances than the MIMO-OFDM system

    Submerged reef terraces in the Maldivian Archipelago (Indian Ocean)

    Sea-level changes have shaped the world's carbonate platform margins and continental shelves, leaving typical geomorphic imprints, such as drowned reef terraces. In this paper, we present the results of 112 scuba diving transects across seven different Maldivian atolls and one multibeam survey around Malé Island, the capital of Maldives. We report on the occurrence of drowned reef terraces down to 120 m depth. In total, we identified six levels of submerged terraces that we consider as indicative of periods of time with stable or slowly rising sea level that can be attributed either to deceleration of the last deglacial sea-level rise or to Late Quaternary sea-level highstands. We compare our dataset to the depth of reef terraces reported globally, and we discuss the reasons why common global submerged terrace levels are difficult to identify in the field record

    Desempeño reproductivo del bocachico Prochilodus magdalenae inducido dos veces en un mismo año

    RESUMEN Objetivo. Evaluar el desempeño reproductivo del bocachico (Prochilodus magdalenae) sometido a dos inducciones hormonales con extracto pituitario de carpa (EPC) en un mismo año. Materiales y métodos. 23 hembras, en fase de maduración final, fueron inducidas con 5mg EPC/Kg de peso vivo, en dos aplicaciones, inicialmente 10% y doce horas después 90% restante. A los machos fue aplicado 80% de la dosis total de las hembras. Resultados. Después de la primera inducción hormonal, las hembras estuvieron aptas nuevamente a los 97.6±12.4 días. El índice de ovulación en ambas inducciones fue de 0.91 (21/23). La fecundidad absoluta (g-ovocitos/hembra) no presentó diferencias significativa entre la primera y segunda inducción (36.2 y 44.6 g-ovocitos/hembra, respectivamente) (p>0.05); pero cuando se expresó en número de ovocitos/hembra se observó diferencia significativa (p<0.05), siendo mayor en la primera inducción (53535 ovocitos/hembra) que en la segunda (40658 ovocitos/hembra). La fecundidad relativa, expresada tanto en g-ovocitos/Kg-hembra como ovocitos/Kg-hembra, mostraron diferencia significativa, siendo mayor en la primera inducción (p<0.05). La tasa de fecundación (73.9±19.6%) y eclosión (56.9±17.9%) fueron mayores en la primera inducción, comparadas con la segunda (55.6±21.1% y 35.6±20.7%, respectivamente) (p<0.05). Conclusiones. Después de una inducción hormonal se requiere de aproximadamente tres meses para que una hembra de bocachico alcance nuevamente la maduración final y esté apta para una nueva inducción hormonal. El índice de ovulación no fue afectado por una segunda inducción en un mismo año, pero la fecundidad absoluta y relativa puede disminuirse entre 24 y 66% y las tasas de fecundación y eclosión entre 23 y 36%

    Opening the Black Box of Family-Based Treatments: an artificial intelligence Framework to Examine therapeutic alliance and therapist Empathy

    The evidence-based treatment (EBT) movement has primarily focused on core intervention content or treatment fidelity and has largely ignored practitioner skills to manage interpersonal process issues that emerge during treatment, especially with difficult-to-treat adolescents (delinquent, substance-using, medical non-adherence) and those of color. A chief complaint of real world practitioners about manualized treatments is the lack of correspondence between following a manual and managing microsocial interpersonal processes (e.g. negative affect) that arise in treating real world clients. Although family-based EBTs share core similarities (e.g. focus on family interactions, emphasis on practitioner engagement, family involvement), most of these treatments do not have an evidence base regarding common implementation and treatment process problems that practitioners experience in delivering particular models, especially in mid-treatment when demands on families to change their behavior is greatest in treatment - a lack that characterizes the field as a whole. Failure to effectively address common interpersonal processes with difficult-to-treat families likely undermines treatment fidelity and sustained use of EBTs, treatment outcome, and contributes to treatment dropout and treatment nonadherence. Recent advancements in wearables, sensing technologies, multivariate time-series analyses, and machine learning allow scientists to make significant advancements in the study of psychotherapy processes by looking under the skin of the provider-client interpersonal interactions that define therapeutic alliance, empathy, and empathic accuracy, along with the predictive validity of these therapy processes (therapeutic alliance, therapist empathy) to treatment outcome. Moreover, assessment of these processes can be extended to develop procedures for training providers to manage difficult interpersonal processes while maintaining a physiological profile that is consistent with astute skills in psychotherapeutic processes. This paper argues for opening the black box of therapy to advance the science of evidence-based psychotherapy by examining the clinical interior of evidence-based treatments to develop the next generation of audit- and feedback- (i.e., systemic review of professional performance) supervision systems
