Bestaand onderzoek dat Wittgenstein vergelijkt met de continentale fenomenologie schiet tekort. Deze onderzoek vergelijken Wittgenstein slechts begripsmatig met de continentale fenomenologen of beschrijven de ontwikkeling van het begrip fenomenologie in Wittgensteins werk. Myrthe van Nus laat zien waarom deze invalshoeken onvoldoende zijn om een antwoord op de vraag te kunnen formuleren of Wittgenstein verwantschap vertoont met de continentale fenomenologie en stelt een andere insteek voor die de methode van de fenomenologie centraal stelt. Een antwoord op de vraag formuleren of Wittgenstein tot de fenomenologische beweging behoort is belangrijk. Immers, wanneer er een verwantschap blijkt impliceert deze dat een duiding die uitsluitend in de analytische filosofische traditie is georiënteerd Wittgensteins denken tekort doet

Immune-mediated mechanisms of atherosclerosis and implications for the clinic.

A large body of evidence supports the inflammatory hypothesis of atherosclerosis, and both innate and adaptive immune responses play important roles in all disease stages. Areas covered: Here, we review our understanding of the role of the immune response in atherosclerosis, focusing on the pathways currently amenable to therapeutic modulation. We also discuss the advantages or undesirable effects that may be foreseen from targeting the immune response in patients at high cardiovascular risk, suggesting new avenues for research. Expert commentary: There is an extraordinary opportunity to directly test the inflammatory hypothesis of atherosclerosis in the clinic using currently available therapeutics. However, a more balanced interpretation of the experimental and translational data is needed, which may help address and identify in more detail the appropriate settings where an immune pathway can be targeted with minimal risk.This is the author accepted manuscript. How should we ‘care’ for LGBT+ students within higher education?

This article draws on a recent U.K. research project about lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT+) perspectives on university to examine the implications for pastoral care and other service provision on campus. In a departure from previous scholarship that has tended to understand LGBT+ students as ‘vulnerable’ and/or needing ‘support’, it argues that university spaces should be (re)framed in a way that moves beyond (only) personal or individual ‘care’. The article outlines some of the issues that LGBT+ students may face under the following headings: Curriculum and course content; Discrimination, prejudice and bullying; Facilities and service provision on campus; A continuum of experiences. Following these, a final section draws some conclusions and implications for practice in higher education

Niehove 3.0:wat leeft er in Niehove?

In het voorjaar van 2011 heeft het Kenniscentrum Gebiedsontwikkeling NoorderRuimte een onderzoek uitgevoerd naar de leefomgeving van het dorp Niehove. Met behulp van dit onderzoek zal de vereniging Dorpsbelangen in Niehove een doel kunnen opstellen waar ze zich op kunnen gaan richten de komende jaren. Het doel van dit onderzoek is om in kaart te brengen hoe de inwoners van Niehove hun leefomgeving waarderen. Hierbij is een onderzoeksvraag geformuleerd en deze luidt als volgt: Hoe waarderen de inwoners van Niehove hun leefomgeving? Bij deze centrale vraag gaat het om de volgende vier aspecten van de leefomgeving: Woonsituatie Voorzieningen Sociale klimaat Organiserend vermogen 1. De inwoners van Niehove, blijkt uit het onderzoek, vinden hun dorp prettig om in te wonen. De belangrijkste reden om zich te vestigen in Niehove is de rust en de ruimte. Veel Niehoofsters geven aan de rest van hun leven in Niehove te willen blijven wonen. 2. Het begrip voorzieningen betekent in dit onderzoek bijvoorbeeld de winkels, scholen en sport. In Niehove zijn weinig van deze voorzieningen aanwezig. Bij voorzieningen hoort ook het gevoel van veiligheid. De inwoners van Niehove zijn tevreden over de veiligheid in het dorp. De meningen zijn verdeeld over het onderhoud aan de wegen in en naar Niehove. Op dit gebied moeten dus verbeteringen plaatsvinden. 3. Over het sociale klimaat zijn de meeste inwoners het wel eens. Uit het onderzoek blijkt dat de respondenten voldoende sociale contacten hebben binnen en buiten het dorp. Bovendien wordt er gesproken van een goede verstandhouding tussen de oude en nieuwe bewoners, een goede relatie met de buren en wordt de sociale controle als prettig ervaren. De inwoners van Niehove geven in de enquête aan graag buurt- of dorpsgenoten te willen helpen. 4. In het dorp Niehove worden veel activiteiten georganiseerd. De populairste activiteiten zijn het paasvuur, de intocht en feest van sinterklaas, de paaswandeling en de sinterklaasbingo. Tevens is de jaarvergadering een belangrijke activiteit volgens de respondenten. Over de activiteiten voor de kinderen vindt 78,5% van de ouders dat er voldoende leuke activiteiten worden georganiseerd. Er zijn inwoners van Niehove die aangeven dat zij graag iets zouden willen beginnen op het gebied van duurzaamheid en het verkopen van streekproducten. Professional contexts for modern languages:work experience and academic reflection in a multilingual context

In the second year module ‘Professional Contexts for Modern Languages’ at Lancaster University, students take 20-25 hour placements, and using a multimodal forum, they articulate their challenges, development and understanding of the varying contexts in which they are working. In summative assessment, students across languages and types of activity communicate and learn from each other so as to foster a broad, cross cultural understanding of language-based professional and business contexts (mainly in educational, digital marketing and translation sectors both in the UK and abroad). The module establishes a mutually productive engagement between a university languages department, faculty employability and central careers staff, the Lancaster University Students Union (that source teaching placements) and local and European employers. Inspired by a vision of modern languages degrees as fostering a global mind-set and cultural intelligence, the course allows us to rethink language learning within a framework of skills for employability

Neoliberalisation and 'lad cultures' in higher education

This paper links HE neoliberalisation and ‘lad cultures’, drawing on interviews and focus groups with women students. We argue that retro-sexist ‘laddish’ forms of masculine competitiveness and misogyny have been reshaped by neoliberal rationalities to become modes of consumerist sexualised audit. We also suggest that neoliberal frameworks scaffold an individualistic and adversarial culture among young people that interacts with perceived threats to men’s privilege and intensifies attempts to put women in their place through misogyny and sexual harassment. Furthermore, ‘lad cultures’, sexism and sexual harassment in higher education may be invisibilised by institutions to preserve marketability in a neoliberal context. In response, we ask if we might foster dialogue and partnership between feminist and anti-marketisation politics

V Jornada d’Intercanvi d’Experiències de la Família de Serveis Socioculturals i a la Comunitat. Barcelona, Universitat de Barcelona (Institut de Ciències de l’Educació), 2017.La família de Serveis Socioculturals i a la Comunitat és una família molt dinàmica, en constant esforç per adaptar-se a les noves tendències del món educatiu i les seves metodologies. Les trobades, usualment bianuals dels seus professionals, permeten l’intercanvi d’experiències i empenyen El professorat a nous reptes en els seus centres educatius. Compartir experiències beneficia els professors i professores pel contacte amb metodologies i/o enfocaments exposats per d’altres centres educatius, però en última instància el benefici d’aquestes trobades és per als nous professionals que es preparen en cadascun dels instituts d’arreu de Catalunya: l’alumnat. Fa dos anys de la darrera Jornada d’Intercanvi d’Experiències. No és molt de temps, i en canvi, si són força les propostes que ens ha fet arribar el professorat. De totes elles, se’n deriven dos grans àmbits temàtics que són l’acompanyament de l’alumnat en el marc de la inclusió educativa i les metodologies, estratègies i experiències que afavoreixen l’assoliment de les competències professionals. Les presents jornades s’han organitzat a partir d’un grup de treball de l’Institut de Ciències de la Universitat de Barcelona que han participat conjuntament en altres ocasions en temes relacionats amb aquesta família professional. Ha estat una gran oportunitat per desenvolupar un treball cooperatiu, engrescador i enriquidor que posarem al servei d’altres accions de formació

IV Jornada d'Intercanvi d'Experiències de la Família de Serveis Socioculturals i a la Comunitat

Encara que aquesta és la primera vegada que publiquem les experiències presentades, aquestes IV Jornades, tenen un recorregut anterior i són el reflex del saber fer professional en el que es troba gran part del col·lectiu d’aquesta Família professional. En el temps transcorregut des de la última jornada s’han implantat la majoria dels cicles LOE, i encara que alguns centres fa més temps que d’altres que segueixen aquest nou camí, és un bon moment per reflexionar sobre el que s’ha fet, compartir noves experiències entre el professorat, imaginar nous escenaris per desenvolupar i seguir construint la professió docent. Els cicles LOE han suposat l’orientació definitiva de la formació per competències professionals, perquè els alumnes esdevinguin professionals competents, capaços d’aplicar en contextos de treball els coneixements adquirits i les habilitats desenvolupades. Organitzar les classes d’altres maneres que no siguin la classe magistral ha suposat esforç, creativitat i coordinació amb l’equip docent de dins i de fora dels centres per acostar la realitat laboral als nostres estudiants. Els diferents centres que imparteixen els cicles d’aquesta família professional recullen un bon grapat d’experiències en aquest sentit. Posar- les en comú, saber què fem uns i altres, obre un món de possibilitats al professorat i per això les volem fer arribar a altres docents. Les presents jornades s’han organitzat a partir d’un grup de treball de l’Institut de Ciències de la Universitat de Barcelona que han participat conjuntament en altres ocasions en temes relacionats amb aquesta família professional. Area Environmental Characterization Report of the Dalhart and Palo Duro Basins In the Texas Panhandle - Volume I. Dalhart Basin

This area report describes the environmental characteristics of the Dalhart and Palo Dura basins in the Texas Panhandle portion of the Permian basin. Both basins are rather sparsely populated, and the overall population is decreasing. The economic base is centered on agribusiness and manufacturing. Most of the potentially conflicting land uses in both basins (i.e., parks, historic sites) occupy small land areas, with the exception of a national grassland in the Dalhart and military air training routes in both basins. Ground transportation in the Dalhart basin is adequate, and it is well developed in the Palo Dura basin. In both basins, irrigation constitutes the principal water use, and groundwater is the principal source. However, the dominant aquifer, the Ogallala, is being depleted. Both basins consist primarily of grasslands, rangelands, and agricultural areas. No critical terrestrial or aquatic habitats have been identified in the basins, though several endangered, threatened, or rare terrestrial species occur in or near the basins. Aquatic resources in both basins are limited because of the intermittent availability of water and the high salt content of some water bodies. Playa lakes are common, though usually seasonal or rain-dependent. The climate of the area is semiarid, with low humidity, relatively high wind speeds, and highly variable precipitation. Restrictive dispersion conditions are infrequent. National ambient secondary air quality standards for particulates are being exceeded in the area, largely because of fugitive dust, although there are some particulate point sources.Bureau of Economic Geolog

Cartes de mouvement du sol (Shakemaps) transfrontalières pour les Pyrénées: paramètres de régionalisation et procédure de réponse rapide.

Pour l'adaptation régionale du logiciel ShakeMap v3.5, les équations prédictives de mouvement du sol, d'intensité et de conversion mouvements du sol/intensité sont confrontées aux données régionales d'observations pour le choix des relations à utiliser. Une carte simplifiée des types de sols en classes EC8 est élaborée à partir des informations géologiques/géotechniques pour transcription en carte de Vs30. L'uniformisation et le renforcement des réseaux permettront l'utilisation en quasi temps-réel de plus de 50 stations sismiques transfrontalières. La procédure automatisée permet la réalisation de cartes ShakeMaps en réponse rapide (quelques minutes) et de cartes différées sur données d'entrées validées
