Probing dark energy beyond with CODEX
Precision measurements of nature's fundamental couplings and a first
measurement of the cosmological redshift drift are two of the key targets for
future high-resolution ultra-stable spectrographs such as CODEX. Being able to
do both gives CODEX a unique advantage, allowing it to probe dynamical dark
energy models (by measuring the behavior of their equation of state) deep in
the matter era and thereby testing classes of models that would otherwise be
difficult to distinguish from the standard CDM paradigm. We illustrate

The variable polarity plasma arc welding process: Its application to the Space Shuttle external tank
The technical history of the variable polarity plasma arc (VPPA) welding process being introduced as a partial replacement for the gas shielded tungsten arc process in assembly welding of the space shuttle external tank is described. Interim results of the weld strength qualification studies, and plans for further work on the implementation of the VPPA process are included
Inflationary Cosmology and Oscillating Universes in Loop Quantum Cosmology
We study oscillatory universes within the context of Loop Quantum Cosmology.
We make a comparative study of flat and positively curved universes sourced by
scalar fields with either positive or negative potentials. We investigate how
oscillating universes can set the initial conditions for successful slow-roll
inflation, while ensuring that the semi-classical bounds are satisfied. We
observe rich oscillatory dynamics with negative potentials, although it is

H1N1 disseminated infection in a 3-month-old boy
Earlier this year a new influenza virus emerged. In children, the clinical manifestations of H1N1 infection are similar to those reported during periods of seasonal influenza. We report on a 3-month-old boy with an upper respiratory tract infection who presented enteropathy, coagulopathy and encephalitis related to H1N1. The infection was confirmed in nasopharyngeal aspirate, stools and cerebrospinal fluid by real-time PCR. Treatment with oseltamivir was started.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Stability analysis of cosmological models through Liapunov's method
We investigate the general asymptotic behaviour of Friedman-Robertson-Walker
(FRW) models with an inflaton field, scalar-tensor FRW cosmological models and
diagonal Bianchi-IX models by means of Liapunov's method. This method provides
information not only about the asymptotic stability of a given equilibrium
point but also about its basin of attraction. This cannot be obtained by the
usual methods found in the literature, such as linear stability analysis or
first order perturbation techniques. Moreover, Liapunov's method is also
applicable to non-autonomous systems. We use this advantadge to investigate the

The Relationship between Maternal Overprotection, Adolescent Internalizing and Externalizing Problems, and Psychological Need Frustration: A Multi-Informant Study Using Response Surface Analysis
Parents and adolescents may hold discrepant views about parentsâ behaviors, which may be related to adolescent maladjustment. The goal of the present investigation was to examine associations between overprotective parenting and adolescentsâ internalizing and externalizing problems and the frustration of their psychological needs (for autonomy, relatedness and competence), thereby considering both congruence and incongruence in adolescentsâ and mothersâ reports of overprotective parenting. Our sample consisted of 402 mother-adolescent dyads (M adolescent ageâ=â16.8 years, 63% female), who reported upon the mothersâ overprotective parenting. In addition, adolescents filled out questionnaires assessing their internalizing and externalizing problems and psychological need frustration. Data were analyzed using polynomial regressions with response surface analysis. Results showed evidence for a linear, additive relationship between adolescentsâ and mothersâ reports of overprotective parenting, and adolescentsâ internalizing and externalizing symptoms and relatedness and competence frustration. That is, higher scores in adolescentsâ and mothersâ ratings of overprotective parenting were associated with more maladjustment and more need frustration. Moreover, results indicated that incongruence between adolescentsâ and mothersâ reports related to more externalizing problems and more autonomy and relatedness frustration, and this was especially the case when adolescents perceived higher levels of overprotection than what was reported by mothers. These results underscore the importance of considering multiple perspectives when studying the dynamics involved in overprotective parenting
