    Relationship between PET/CT images and KRAS gene mutations in colorectal cancer in Vietnamese patients

    OBJECTIVE: We conducted this study to determine the relationship among standardized uptake value (SUV), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) indexes of Flourine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography18 (FDG-PET/CT) imaging and Kirsten rat sarcoma (KRAS) gene mutations in colorectal cancer (CRC). PATIENTS AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Bach Mai Hospital from 2020 to 2022. It included newly diagnosed CRC patients who underwent PET/CT examination prior to primary tumor resection. The maximum SUV (SUVmax – SUVmean), MTV, and TLG were considered. All pathologically confirmed CRC patients were accepted with further KRAS mutation status analysis. RESULTS: We enrolled 63 newly diagnosed CRC patients who underwent PET/CT examination prior to primary tumor resection. Among them, 31 (49.2%) patients had KRAS gene mutation. Patients with KRAS mutation status showed significantly different and higher SUVmax (p-value = 0.025), SUVmax t/b (p-value = 0.013), SUVmax t-b (p-value = 0.014), MTV (p-value = 0.023), and TLG (p-value = 0.011) than patients with WT KRAS. Other characteristics, including age, gender, tumor location, SUVb, SUVmean, SUVmax of lymph nodes, and SUVmax of liver metastasis, were insignificantly different between the two groups of patients with KRAS mutation status. Receiver operating curve analysis showed that the area under the curve was 0.672 for SUVmax (p-value = 0.019), SUVt/b (p-value = 0.045), and SUVt-b (p-value = 0.020). CONCLUSIONS: We observed a relationship, considering the quantitative parameters (SUVmax, SUVmax, SUVmax t-b, MTV, and TLG), between 18FDG-PET/CT images and the KRAS gene mutation in CRC by analyzing 63 patients prior to treatment

    Вплив концентрації графенових нанопластинок на теплопровідність силіконової термопасти

    Ми повідомляємо про ефективний шлях до підвищення теплопровідності силіконової термопасти без погіршення її сумісності за рахунок використання високої теплопровідності та механічної гнучкості/пластичності графенових матеріалів. Силіконові термопасти, що містять графенові нанопластинки (ГНП), готувалися із застосуванням високоенергетичного помелу в кульовому млині. Зображення СЕМ показали, що ГНП були добре дисперговані у базовій термопасті. Досліджена теплопровідність термопасти. Отримані результати показали, що ГНП ефективні для підвищення теплопровідності термопаст. Найвище підвищення теплопровідності до 59 % було отримано для термопасти, що містить 0,75 об. % ГНП. Таке підвищення можна віднести до високої теплопровідності ГНП, хорошої сумісності та рівномірного диспергування ГНП у термопасті. Теплопровідність термопасти з більш високою концентрацією ГНП 1 об. % зменшувалася за рахунок утворення кластерів ГНП. Використовуючи модель Чу з підбором міжфазної термостійкості (Rk), ми виявили, що підвищення теплопровідності термопасти стосується термостійкості Rk між ГНП та матрицею термопасти. Найкращий спосіб поліпшити теплопровідність термопасти – це зменшити Rk. Отримані результати продемонстрували переваги ГНП в термопастах для розсіювання тепла в електронних пристроях високої потужності.We herein report a facile route to improve the thermal conductivity of silicone thermal grease without deteriorating its conformability via exploitation of outstanding thermal conductivity and mechanical flexibility/ductility of graphene materials. The silicone thermal greases containing GNPs were prepared by using the high-energy ball milling process. The SEM images proved that GNPs were well dispersed in the base grease. The thermal conductivity of the thermal greases was investigated and presented. The obtained results demonstrated that GNPs are efficient for the thermal conductivity enhancement of the thermal grease. The highest thermal conductivity enhancement up to 59 % was obtained with the grease containing 0.75 vol. % GNPs. The enhancement could be attributed to high thermal conductivity of GNPs, the good compatibility and uniform dispersion of GNPs in the thermal grease. The thermal conductivity of the thermal grease with higher GNPs concentration of 1 vol. % was decreased due to the formation of GNPs clusters. By using Chu’s model with the interfacial thermal resistance (Rk) fitting, we found that the thermal conductivity enhancement of the thermal grease concerns to the Rk between GNPs and the grease matrix. The best way to improve the thermal conductivity of the thermal grease is to reduce the Rk. The obtained results demonstrated the advantages of GNP in the thermal greases for the heat dissipation in high power electronic devices

    Synthesis of iron modified rice straw biochar toward arsenic from groundwater

    The potential of Fe modified biochar (BC) as an alternative, inexpensive adsorbent for removing As(V) from wastewater was investigated. BC was synthesized from the slow pyrolysis of rice straw and then modified with FeCl3. The result from FTIR and SEM-EDX demonstrated that Fe had loaded successfully on the surface of biochar. In comparison to the raw biochar, the Fe modified BC not only had stronger magnetic property but also showed much greater ability to remove As(V) from aqueous solution. The Fe modified BC showed a maximum adsorption with an initial solution pH of 5.0. The adsorption data were better fitted with the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second kinetic model. The maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) by the modified BC, based on the Langmuir isotherm, was 26.9 mg g-1. The Fe-modified BC can be an effective, inexpensive, and environmentally sustainable adsorbent to replace typical granular activated carbons (AC) commonly utilized in the treatment of arsenic-contaminated wastewater. - 2019 IOP Publishing Ltd.Scopu

    Dengue as a cause of acute undifferentiated fever in Vietnam

    Background: Dengue is a common cause of fever in the tropics but its contribution to the total burden of febrile illnesses that is presented to primary health facilities in endemic regions such as Vietnam, is largely unknown. We aimed to report the frequency of dengue as a cause of fever in Binh Thuan Province, to describe the characteristics of dengue patients, and analyze the diagnostic accuracy of the health care workers and the determinants of the diagnostic process. Methods: All patients presenting with acute undifferentiated fever at twelve community health posts and one clinic at the provincial malaria station, Binh Thuan Province, a dengue endemic province in southern Vietnam, were included. Record forms were used to fill in patient and diseases characteristics, pre- referral treatment, signs and symptoms, provisional diagnosis and prescribed treatment, referral and final outcome. Serum samples were collected at first presentation and after 3 weeks for serologic diagnosis. Results: 2096 patients were included from April 2001 to March 2002. All 697 patients with paired serum samples were tested for dengue virus IgM and IgG. Acute dengue was found in 33.6% cases and past dengue virus infections were found in 57.1% cases. Acute primary infections were more common among children under 15 years old than among adults ( 7.7% vs. 3.5%, p value < 0.001). Younger age significantly predicted acute dengue ( RR per increasing year of age ( 95 % CI): 0.986 ( 0.975 - 0.997, p value = 0.014). 48.9% of cases with clinical diagnosis of acute dengue were serologically confirmed and 32.5% of cases without clinical diagnosis of acute dengue were positive by serology after all ( OR = 1.981, p value 0.025, 95% CI: 1.079 - 3.635). Tourniquet test was not a predictor for dengue diagnosis. Conclusion: Dengue is responsible for one third of the fevers presented to the public primary health services in Binh Thuan, southern Vietnam. It presents as a highly unspecific illness and is hardly recognized as a clinical entity by primary physician
