    Protein sequences classification based on weighting scheme

    We present a new technique to recognize remote protein homologies that rely on combining probabilistic modeling and supervised learning in high-dimensional feature spaces. The main novelty of our technique is the method of constructing feature vectors using Hidden Markov Model and the combination of this representation with a classifier capable of learning in very sparse high-dimensional spaces. Each feature vector records the sensitivity of each protein domain to a previously learned set of sub-sequences (strings). Unlike other previous methods, our method takes in consideration the conserved and non-conserved regions. The system subsequently utilizes Support Vector Machines (SVM) classifiers to learn the boundaries between structural protein classes. Experiments show that this method, which we call the String Weighting Scheme-SVM (SWS-SVM) method, significantly improves on previous methods for the classification of protein domains based on remote homologies. Our method is then compared to five existing homology detection methods

Observation : nous rapportons le cas d’une femme de 59 ans, présentant un chondrome sphénoïdal étendu et révélé exclusivement par une obstruction nasale bilatérale. Une résection chirurgicale complète a été réalisée par voie endoscopique endonasale. aucune récidive n’est survenue après 14 mois de suivi. Discussion : Le chondrome sphénoïdal est dangereux par son extension aux structures vasculonerveuses de voisinage. Chondrome et chondrosarcome sont souvent difficiles à différencier. endoscopie et neuronavigation améliorent significativement la qualité de l’exérèse.     The Influence of Real-Time Visual Feedback Training on Vocal Control

    Trained singers have better vocal control when compared to singers without vocal training. The development of precise vocal control, like any motor skill, requires practice with some form of feedback, such as auditory feedback. In addition to auditory feedback, singing training programs use online visual feedback to improve performance accuracy. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the recent body of literature concerning the cognitive processing of vocal control, and apply this knowledge practically to develop an effective real-time visual feedback training program that enhances vocal control. In the first of two studies, non-singers and singers were randomly assigned to one of two training conditions: one condition with visual feedback of vocal performance, and the other condition with no feedback. Changes in vocal control as a function of training condition were assessed by comparing measures of pitch accuracy, vocal variability, and responses to sudden frequency-altered perturbations in participants’ pitch feedback, before and after training. In the second study, training sessions were doubled and tested with another group of non-singers, with results from this second study compared to the first study. Overall, there was no effect of real-time visual feedback training or length of training on measures of vocal control. These findings may contribute to a better understanding of vocal control, and assist in improving singing training programs

    Prefix-Projection Global Constraint for Sequential Pattern Mining

    Sequential pattern mining under constraints is a challenging data mining task. Many efficient ad hoc methods have been developed for mining sequential patterns, but they are all suffering from a lack of genericity. Recent works have investigated Constraint Programming (CP) methods, but they are not still effective because of their encoding. In this paper, we propose a global constraint based on the projected databases principle which remedies to this drawback. Experiments show that our approach clearly outperforms CP approaches and competes well with ad hoc methods on large datasets

    Determinants of Customer Loyalty for Moslem Fashion: A Study The Largest Moslem Population (Indonesia)

    The development of the fashion world experienced a significant increase in the last few decades. Indonesia has a huge opportunity in the Muslim fashion sector when compared to other countries, because the majority of the population is Muslim. The Indonesian government realizes that even Indonesia is proclaimed to be a benchmark for world Muslim fashion in 2020. This is very possible considering the Muslim fashion industry in Indonesia has experienced growth since the 1990s based on data from the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). One of the biggest brands in Indonesia is HijUp. This aims to analyze the effect of brand images and online promotion strategy on customer satisfaction and loyalty. The analysis technique used is quantitative approach. The sample in this study were 100 HijUp respondents, using the Maximum Likehood (ML) estimation method. This research uses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method with LISREL 8.72 measuring instrument. The results of this study indicate the positive influence of brand image on customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. Furthermore, there is a positive influence of online promotion strategies on customer satisfaction, but there is a negative influence on customer loyalty.     Extending the decomposition algorithm for support vector machines training

    The Support Vector Machine (SVM) is found to de a capable learning machine. It has the ability to handle difficult pattern recognition tasks such as speech recognition, and has demonstrated reasonable performance. The formulation in a SVM is elegant in that it is simplified to a convex Quadratic IProgramming (QP) problem. Theoretically the training is guaranteed to converge to a global optimal. The training of SVM is not as straightforward as it seems. Numerical problems will cause the training to give non- optimal decision boundaries. Using a conventional optimizer to train SVM is not the ideal solution. One can design a dedicated optimizer that will take full advantage of the specific nature of the QP problem in SVM training. The decomposition algorithm developed by Osuna et al. (1997a) reduces the training cost to an acceptable level. In this paper we have analyzed and developed an extension to Osuna's method in order 110 achieve better performance. The modified method can be used to solve the training of practical SVMs, in which the training might not otherwise converge
