Strong Shift Equivalence of -correspondences
We define a notion of strong shift equivalence for -correspondences and
show that strong shift equivalent -correspondences have strongly Morita
equivalent Cuntz-Pimsner algebras. Our analysis extends the fact that strong
shift equivalent square matrices with non-negative integer entries give stably
isomorphic Cuntz-Krieger algebras.Comment: 26 pages. Final version to appear in Israel Journal of Mathematic
Dynamical magneto-electric coupling in helical magnets
Collective mode dynamics of the helical magnets coupled to electric
polarization via spin-orbit interaction is studied theoretically. The soft
modes associated with the ferroelectricity are not the transverse optical
phonons, as expected from the Lyddane-Sachs-Teller relation, but are the spin
waves hybridized with the electric polarization. This leads to the Drude-like
dielectric function in the limit of zero magnetic
anisotropy. There are two more low-lying modes; phason of the spiral and
rotation of helical plane along the polarization axis. The roles of these soft
modes in the neutron scattering and antiferromagnetic resonance are revealed,
and a novel experiment to detect the dynamical magneto-electric coupling is
proposed.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figur
Static strengthening and fatigue blunt-notch sensitivity in low-carbon steels
The influence of four different static strengthenings on the fatigue blunt-notch sensitivity of a low-carbon steel with a ferrite–pearlite microstructure was analyzed and modeled. The analysis was made using a model previously derived which estimates the fatigue limit of blunt notched components by means of the parameter ktd defined as the stress concentration introduced by the notch at a distance d from the notch root surface equal to the distance between microstructural barriers. While the distance d between microstructural barriers is kept constant by keeping constant the grain size, the effective resistance of the microstructural barriers to crack propagation is increased by static strengthening. The analyses have shown the influence of the distribution and effective resistance of the first two or three microstructural barriers on fatigue blunt-notch sensitivity.Fil: Chapetti, Mirco Daniel. Topological Classification of Gapped Spin Chains :Quantized Berry Phase as a Local Order Parameter
We characterize several phases of gapped spin systems by local order
parameters defined by quantized Berry phases. This characterization is
topologically stable against any small perturbation as long as the energy gap
remains finite. The models we pick up are dimerized Heisenberg chains
and S=2 Heisenberg chains with uniaxial single-ion-type anisotropy.
Analytically we also evaluate the topological local order parameters for the
generalized Affleck-Kennedy-Lieb-Tasaki (AKLT) model. The relation between the
present Berry phases and the fractionalization in the integer spin chains are
discussed as well.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
Rigorous Analysis of Singularities and Absence of Analytic Continuation at First Order Phase Transition Points in Lattice Spin Models
We report about two new rigorous results on the non-analytic properties of
thermodynamic potentials at first order phase transition. The first one is
valid for lattice models () with arbitrary finite state space, and
finite-range interactions which have two ground states. Under the only
assumption that the Peierls Condition is satisfied for the ground states and
that the temperature is sufficiently low, we prove that the pressure has no
analytic continuation at the first order phase transition point. The second
result concerns Ising spins with Kac potentials
, where is a small scaling
parameter, and a fixed finite range potential. In this framework, we
relate the non-analytic behaviour of the pressure at the transition point to
the range of interaction, which equals . Our analysis exhibits a
crossover between the non-analytic behaviour of finite range models
() and analyticity in the mean field limit (). In
general, the basic mechanism responsible for the appearance of a singularity
blocking the analytic continuation is that arbitrarily large droplets of the
other phase become stable at the transition point.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Entanglement Entropy in the Calogero-Sutherland Model
We investigate the entanglement entropy between two subsets of particles in
the ground state of the Calogero-Sutherland model. By using the duality
relations of the Jack symmetric polynomials, we obtain exact expressions for
both the reduced density matrix and the entanglement entropy in the limit of an
infinite number of particles traced out. From these results, we obtain an upper
bound value of the entanglement entropy. This upper bound has a clear
interpretation in terms of fractional exclusion statistics.Comment: 14 pages, 3figures, references adde
Entanglement Spectra of the 2D AKLT Model: VBS/CFT Correspondence
We investigate the entanglement properties of the valence-bond-solid (VBS)
state defined on two-dimensional lattices, which is the exact ground state of
the Affleck-Kennedy-Lieb-Tasaki model. It is shown that the entanglement
entropy obeys an area law and the non-universal prefactor of the leading term
is strictly less than . The analysis of entanglement spectra for various
lattices reveals that the reduced density matrix associated with the VBS state
is closely related to a thermal density matrix of a {\it holographic} spin
chain, whose spectrum is reminiscent of that of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain.
This correspondence is further supported by comparing the entanglement entropy
in the holographic spin chain with conformal field theory predictions.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, published versio
