Quantisation without Gauge Fixing: Avoiding Gribov Ambiguities through the Physical Projector

The quantisation of gauge invariant systems usually proceeds through some gauge fixing procedure of one type or another. Typically for most cases, such gauge fixings are plagued by Gribov ambiguities, while it is only for an admissible gauge fixing that the correct dynamical description of the system is represented, especially with regards to non perturbative phenomena. However, any gauge fixing procedure whatsoever may be avoided altogether, by using rather a recently proposed new approach based on the projection operator onto physical gauge invariant states only, which is necessarily free on any such issues. These different aspects of gauge invariant systems are explicitely analysed within a solvable U(1) gauge invariant quantum mechanical model related to the dimensional reduction of Yang-Mills theory.Comment: 22 pages, no figures, plain LaTeX fil

A study of resonance tongues near a Chenciner bifurcation using MatcontM

MatcontM is a matlab toolbox for numerical analysis of bifurcations of fixed points and periodic orbits of maps. It computes codim 1 bifurcation curves and supports the computation of normal coefficients including branch switching from codim 2 points to secondary curves. Recently, the initialization and computation of connecting orbits was improved. Moreover, a graphical user interface was added enabling interactive control of all these computations. To further support these computations it allows to compute orbits of the map and its iterates and to represent them in 2D, 3D and numeric windows. We demonstrate the use of the toolbox in a study of Arnol'd tongues near a degenerate Neimark-Sacker (Chenciner) bifurcation. Here we illustrate the recent theory of [Baesens&Mackay,2007] how resonance tongues interact with a quasi-periodic saddle-node bifurcation of invariant curves in maps. Using normal form coefficients we find evidence for one of their cases, but not the other. Actually, we find another unfolding, i.e. a third possibility. We also find a structure that resembles a quasi-periodic cusp bifurcation of invariant curves

The N=1 supersymmetric invariant Landau problem is constructed and solved. By considering Landau level projections remaining non trivial under N=1 supersymmetry transformations, the algebraic structures of the N=1 supersymmetric covariant non(anti)commutative superplane analogue of the ordinary N=0 noncommutative Moyal-Voros plane are identified

Topology Classes of Flat U(1) Bundles and Diffeomorphic Covariant Representations of the Heisenberg Algebra

The general construction of self-adjoint configuration space representations of the Heisenberg algebra over an arbitrary manifold is considered. All such inequivalent representations are parametrised in terms of the topology classes of flat U(1) bundles over the configuration space manifold. In the case of Riemannian manifolds, these representations are also manifestly diffeomorphic covariant. The general discussion, illustrated by some simple examples in non relativistic quantum mechanics, is of particular relevance to systems whose configuration space is parametrised by curvilinear coordinates or is not simply connected, which thus include for instance the modular spaces of theories of non abelian gauge fields and gravity.Comment: 22 pages, no figures, plain LaTeX file; changes only in details of affiliation and financial suppor

Kostprijsberekening biologische geitenmelk

In 2009 was de gemiddelde kostprijs per 100 liter geleverde geitenmelk, gecorrigeerd voor 7% vet en eiwit, €64,54 excl. BTW. Per kostenpost lopen de kosten per bedrijf behoorlijk uiteen. De voerkosten bepalen gemiddeld 58% van de kostprijs, de arbeidskosten 19%. Het afgelopen jaar was de gemiddelde marktprijs voor 100 liter biologische geitenmelk, gecorrigeerd voor 7% vet en eiwit, €67 excl. BTW voor de betrokken bedrijven bij dit kostprijsonderzoek. Zo was hun melkproductie kostendekkend in 2009

World-line Quantisation of a Reciprocally Invariant System

We present the world-line quantisation of a system invariant under the symmetries of reciprocal relativity (pseudo-unitary transformations on ``phase space coordinates" $(x^\mu(\tau),p^\mu(\tau))$ which preserve the Minkowski metric and the symplectic form, and global shifts in these coordinates, together with coordinate dependent transformations of an additional compact phase coordinate, $\theta(\tau)$). The action is that of free motion over the corresponding Weyl-Heisenberg group. Imposition of the first class constraint, the generator of local time reparametrisations, on physical states enforces identification of the world-line cosmological constant with a fixed value of the quadratic Casimir of the quaplectic symmetry group $Q(D-1,1)\cong U(D-1,1)\ltimes H(D)$, the semi-direct product of the pseudo-unitary group with the Weyl-Heisenberg group (the central extension of the global translation group, with central extension associated to the phase variable $\theta(\tau)$). The spacetime spectrum of physical states is identified. Even though for an appropriate range of values the restriction enforced by the cosmological constant projects out negative norm states from the physical spectrum, leaving over spin zero states only, the mass-squared spectrum is continuous over the entire real line and thus includes a tachyonic branch as well

Mineralenvoorziening van geiten

Ze zijn, waar mogelijk, vergeleken met bestaande referentiewaarden in Nederland en buitenlandse literatuur. Voor bepalingen waarvoor referentiewaarden beschikbaar zijn, worden streefwaarden voorgesteld op basis van de bepalingen. Omdat voedingsgehalten soms afgeleid zijn van de behoefte van rundvee en/of schapen, is tevens een overzicht gegeven van mineralen-, spoorelementen- en vitaminenehalten in bloed en melk van runderen en schapen

Mineralen zijn nodig voor een goede weerstand, gezondheid, groei en productie van melkvee. Melkvee dat krachtvoer krijgt, heeft niet snel tekorten aan mineralen. Echter, rantsoenen van uitsluitend ruwvoeder leveren vaak onvoldoende mineralen. Met name de koper- en seleniumvoorziening staan in deze rantsoenen onder druk. Door ruwvoerrijke rantsoenen moeten biologische bedrijven dus extra aandacht besteden aan de mineralenvoorziening. Kruiden bevatten meer mineralen dan gras.
