    Early Career Special Education Teachers Perceived Value of Being Mentored by General Education Teachers

    Special education induction research has examined mentor support and working conditions of early career special education teachers (ECSETs) for over 20 years. Recently researchers provide specialized professional development to mentors based on suggestions of special education induction research. Drawing on quality indicators of single-subject research and the belief that social validity data is valuable, we used qualitative methods to discover ECSETs’ perceptions of the intervention and the helpfulness of the mentors. We then compared responses of the participants with the existing research in special education induction. Findings indicate the participants appreciated the specialized training for their mentors and perceived their mentors as helpful and affected their teaching experiences. However, similar to existing research, the participants had mixed feelings about their working conditions

This paper reports the results of ongoing research into compo-nent-based software engineering (CBSE) in the European banking sector as part of the EU-funded BANKSEC project. The importance of complex non-functional requirements such as dependability and security presents new challenges for CBSE. The paper presents BANKSEC’s vision of an integrated software tool that will provide process advice for component procurement teams who are tackling these new problems. The basis for this process guidance is a situation meta-model that enables the software tool to infer properties about the current status of the selection process and recommend process guidance relevant to this situation

    Compressibility of CeMIn5Ce M In_5 and Ce2MIn8Ce_2 M In_8 (M = Rh, Ir and Co) Compounds

    The lattice parameters of the tetragonal compounds CeMMIn5_{5} and Ce2M_{2}MIn8_{8}(M=M=Rh, Ir and Co) have been studied as a function of pressure up to 15 GPa using a diamond anvil cell under both hydrostatic and quasihydrostatic conditions at room temperature. The addition of MMIn2_{2} layers to the parent CeIn3_{3} compound is found to stiffen the lattice as the 2-layer systems (average of bulk modulus values B0B_{0} is 70.4 GPa) have a larger B0B_{0} than CeIn3_{3} (67 GPa), while the 1-layer systems with the are even stiffer (average of B0B_{0} is 81.4 GPa). Estimating the hybridization using parameters from tight binding calculations shows that the dominant hybridization is fpfp in nature between the Ce and In atoms. The values of VpfV_{pf} at the pressure where the superconducting transition temperature TcT_{c} reaches a maximum is the same for all CeMMIn5_{5} compounds. By plotting the maximum values of the superconducting transition temperature TcT_{c} versus c/ac/a for the studied compounds and Pu-based superconductors, we find a universal TcT_{c} versus c/ac/a behavior when these quantities are normalized appropriately.     Importance of the onion leaf twister disease in Ghana and the effect of Trichoderma asperellium on the mycelial growth and sporulation of the causal agent

    Abstract Studies were carried out to determine the disease incidence and severity of the onion leaf twister disease in the Eastern Region of Ghana to confirm the aetiology of the disease in the country. Field survey was carried out in two districts of the Eastern Region and the disease incidence and severity were measured. The causal agent was isolated on media and identified using morphological characteristics, and polymerase chain reaction with the species specific primer CgInt combined with ITS4 primer. The effect of Trichoderma asperellium on the mycelial growth and sporulation of the causal agent of the disease were determined. The results showed that the disease incidence was 43.6 per cent and 62.5 per cent in the Kwahu South and Fanteakwa districts, respectively, with severity of 0.8 and 2.7 respectively, on a scale of 1 – 5. The causal agent was confirmed as Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. The bio-agent, T. asperellium was able to significantly suppress the mycelial growth and sporulation of the pathogen infecting the onions

    Localized f electrons in CexLa1-xRhIn5: dHvA Measurements

    Measurements of the de Haas-van Alphen effect in CexLa1-xRhIn5 reveal that the Ce 4f electrons remain localized for all x, with the mass enhancement and progressive loss of one spin from the de Haas-van Alphen signal resulting from spin fluctuation effects. This behavior may be typical of antiferromagnetic heavy fermion compounds, inspite of the fact that the 4f electron localization in CeRhIn5 is driven, in part, by a spin-density wave instability.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitted to PR
