Quantum dense coding over Bloch channels
Dynamics of coded information over Bloch channels is investigated for
different values of the channel's parameters. We show that, the suppressing of
the travelling coded information over Bloch channel can be increased by
decreasing the equilibrium absolute value of information carrier and
consequently decreasing the distilled information by eavesdropper. The amount
of decoded information can be improved by increasing the equilibrium values of
the two qubits and decreasing the ratio between longitudinal and transverse
relaxation times. The robustness of coded information in maximum and partial
entangled states is discussed. It is shown that the maximum entangled states
are more robust than the partial entangled state over this type of channels
Experimental Demonstration of a Synthetic Lorentz Force by Using Radiation Pressure
Synthetic magnetism in cold atomic gases opened the doors to many exciting
novel physical systems and phenomena. Ubiquitous are the methods used for the
creation of synthetic magnetic fields. They include rapidly rotating
Bose-Einstein condensates employing the analogy between the Coriolis and the
Lorentz force, and laser-atom interactions employing the analogy between the
Berry phase and the Aharonov-Bohm phase. Interestingly, radiation pressure -
being one of the most common forces induced by light - has not yet been used
for synthetic magnetism. We experimentally demonstrate a synthetic Lorentz
force, based on the radiation pressure and the Doppler effect, by observing the
centre-of-mass motion of a cold atomic cloud. The force is perpendicular to the
velocity of the cold atomic cloud, and zero for the cloud at rest. Our novel
concept is straightforward to implement in a large volume, for a broad range of
velocities, and can be extended to different geometries.Comment: are welcom
Synthetic Lorentz force in classical atomic gases via Doppler effect and radiation pressure
We theoretically predict a novel type of synthetic Lorentz force for
classical (cold) atomic gases, which is based on the Doppler effect and
radiation pressure. A fairly uniform and strong force can be constructed for
gases in macroscopic volumes of several cubic millimeters and more. This opens
the possibility to mimic classical charged gases in magnetic fields, such as
those in a tokamak, in cold atom experiments.Comment: are welcom
Serum Protein Profile Of Iraqi Hydatidosis Patients with Different Sites of Infection
Blood samples of One hundred and twenty patients from different hospitals in Baghdad infected with hydatidosis in different sites of the body (Liver, Lung, multiorgans and kidney) were collected for this study. On the other hand, 30 healthy individuals were included as a control group.
This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of this disease on the serum protein profile of the patients using electrophoresis.
The results revealed four different protein banding patterns with difference in number
of bands and their molecular weights in comparison to the control group, and these differences depended on the site of infection. However the data showed a presence of the same band in all patients with different site of infection
Unified Alignment of Protein-Protein Interaction Networks
Paralleling the increasing availability of protein-protein interaction (PPI) network data, several network alignment methods have been proposed. Network alignments have been used to uncover functionally conserved network parts and to transfer annotations. However, due to the computational intractability of the network alignment problem, aligners are heuristics providing divergent solutions and no consensus exists on a gold standard, or which scoring scheme should be used to evaluate them. We comprehensively evaluate the alignment scoring schemes and global network aligners on large scale PPI data and observe that three methods, HUBALIGN, L-GRAAL and NATALIE, regularly produce the most topologically and biologically coherent alignments. We study the collective behaviour of network aligners and observe that PPI networks are almost entirely aligned with a handful of aligners that we unify into a new tool, Ulign. Ulign enables complete alignment of two networks, which traditional global and local aligners fail to do. Also, multiple mappings of Ulign define biologically relevant soft clusterings of proteins in PPI networks, which may be used for refining the transfer of annotations across networks. Hence, PPI networks are already well investigated by current aligners, so to gain additional biological insights, a paradigm shift is needed. We propose such a shift come from aligning all available data types collectively rather than any particular data type in isolation from others
Delay and reliability analysis of p-persistent carrier sense multiple access for multi-event industrial wireless sensor networks
In industrial environments various events can concurrently occur and may require different quality of service (QoS) provision based on different priority levels. To reduce the chances of collision and to improve efficiency in multi-event occurrence, Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) is a preferable choice for Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols. However, it also increases the overall delay. In this paper, a Priority MAC protocol for Multi-Event industrial wireless sensor networks (PMME) is proposed. In PMME, use of different p values/sequences is proposed to enable multi-priority operation, which can be optimized to suit different operational classes within industrial applications including emergency, regulatory control, supervisory control, open-loop control, alerting and monitoring systems. In this work, novel mathematical model as well as simulations are presented to validate the accuracy and performance of the proposed protocol. Mathematical analysis shows that the proposed PMME can prioritize data packets effectively while ensuring ultra-reliable and low latency communications for high priority nodes. Simulations in Castalia verify that PMME with different p values/sequences notably reduces packet delay for all four priority classes. The PMME also returns a high packet success rate compared to other two well-known priority enabled MAC protocols, QoS aware energy-efficient (QAEE) and multi-priority based QoS (MPQ), in multi-event industrial wireless sensor networks
Firing the Unproductive Employee: Will Civil Service Reform Make a Difference?
Civil service reform included a set of changes intended to facilitate the firing of consistently un productive employees. This article describes the background and logic of these changes, reviews the status of their implementation, and offers preliminary evidence on their consequences for per sonnel management in the federal government.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/68633/2/10.1177_0734371X8200200208.pd
Stoner gap in the superconducting ferromagnet UGe2
We report the temperature () dependence of ferromagnetic Bragg peak
intensities and dc magnetization of the superconducting ferromagnet UGe2 under
pressure (). We have found that the low- behavior of the uniform
magnetization can be explained by a conventional Stoner model. A functional
analysis of the data produces the following results: The ferromagnetic state
below a critical pressure can be understood as the perfectly polarized state,
in which heavy quasiparticles occupy only majority spin bands. A Stoner gap
decreases monotonically with increasing pressure and increases
linearly with magnetic field. We show that the present analysis based on the
Stoner model is justified by a consistency check, i.e., comparison of density
of states at the Fermi energy deduced from the analysis with observed
electronic specific heat coeffieients. We also argue the influence of the
ferromagnetism on the superconductivity.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures. to be published in Phys. Rev.
A state-of-the-art review and feasibility analysis of high altitude wind power in Northern Ireland
AbstractIn many countries wind energy has become an indispensable part of the electricity generation mix. The opportunity for ground based wind turbine systems are becoming more and more constrained due to limitations on turbine hub heights, blade lengths and location restrictions linked to environmental and permitting issues including special areas of conservation and social acceptance due to the visual and noise impacts. In the last decade there have been numerous proposals to harness high altitude winds, such as tethered kites, airfoils and dirigible based rotors. These technologies are designed to operate above the neutral atmospheric boundary layer of 1300m, which are subject to more powerful and persistent winds thus generating much higher electricity capacities. This paper presents an in-depth review of the state-of-the-art of high altitude wind power, evaluates the technical and economic viability of deploying high altitude wind power as a resource in Northern Ireland and identifies the optimal locations through considering wind data and geographical constraints. The key findings show that the total viable area over Northern Ireland for high altitude wind harnessing devices is 5109.6km2, with an average wind power density of 1998W/m2 over a 20-year span, at a fixed altitude of 3000m. An initial budget for a 2MW pumping kite device indicated a total cost £1,751,402 thus proving to be economically viable with other conventional wind-harnessing devices
